Lone Star Boosts Thoroughbred Stakes Schedule By $600,000 For 2022

Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas announced Tuesday a $600,000 increase to its 2022 Thoroughbred stakes schedule, including a total of 21 races worth $2,825,000.

The highlight of the schedule is Lone Star Million Day on Memorial Day, and the marquee race on the card is the Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile, for 3-year-olds and up at one mile. New to this year's Lone Star Million day card will be the $100,000 guaranteed Speightstown Sprint for 3-year-olds and up going six furlongs on the dirt.

Lone Star Showcase Day will be held June 19 with five stakes worth a total of $375,000, while the Summer Turf Festival will be returning July 16 with four stakes worth a total of $750,000. Stars of Texas Day will be held July 17 with five stakes worth $425,000.

The 2022 Thoroughbred racing season will begin April 28 and conclude July 24, with total purses averaging an estimated $268,000 per day for the 48-day meet.

Mahoning Valley Race Course raised purses 10%, effective Dec. 21. Strong Handle Allows Mahoning Valley To Boost Purses 10 Percent

Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course in Youngstown, Ohio is pleased to announce a ten percent increase of the existing purse structure effective with races run on Tuesday, Dec. 21. This increase marks the second time in 2021 with the first increase occurring at the start of the 2021 fall race meeting.

The purse increase will be visually reflected beginning with the first condition book of 2022 which released online today.

Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course races Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with a first race post time of 12:45pm and Saturday with a first race post time of 12:15pm. The fall race meet runs Oct. 22 – Dec. 30, 2021 with three unique cards on Friday, Oct. 22, Friday, Nov. 26, and Thursday, Dec. 30 all with a first race post time of 12:45pm.

The 2022 Winter/Spring race meet dates run Jan. 1, 2022 – April 16, 2022 following the same Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday format.

Golden Gate to Raise Purses on Claiming, Maiden Claiming and Starter Allowances

All starter allowance, maiden claiming and claiming races at Golden Gate Fields will receive purse increases of $3,000, starting Dec. 26.
“We're really pleased to be able to deliver this purse increase to the horsemen at the most appropriate time,” said Vice President and General Manager of Golden Gate Fields David Duggan. “We appreciate our owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys and all of the people who work for them who continue to support our racing product.”
