Not This Time Goes to $40K at Taylor Made

Not This Time (Giant’s Causeway), whose record-setting, undefeated daughter Princess Noor is a leading candidate for the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, will stand the 2021 breeding season for a fee of $40,000 at Taylor Made, the farm announced Thursday. He commanded an advertised fee of $12,500 in 2020. Most of the nursery’s other stallions will stand for reduced fees next year.

‘TDN Rising Star’ Princess Noor is one of 14 first-crop winners for Not This Time and has run the table in her three career starts to date, posting unextended victories in the GI Del Mar Debutante going seven furlongs and when trying two turns for the first time in the GII Chandelier S. A $135,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, Princess Noor sold for $1.35 million at this year’s OBS Spring Sale, the highest amount ever paid for the progeny of a first-crop stallion. According to TDN Sales Statistics, Not This Time was the leading freshman sire of 2-year-olds in training by average ($175,216 for 37 sold). Some 13 of Not This Time’s second-crop yearlings sold in excess of $200,000 this year, topped by a son of Belle’s Finale (Ghostzapper) that realized $450,000 from Jacob West for Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable at Keeneland September.

Not This Time is also represented by the stakes-winning Dirty Dangle on turf and an additional pair of stakes horses, including GIII Schuylerville S. third Hopeful Princess.

‘TDN Rising Star’ Instagrand (Into Mischief) is new to the Taylor Made roster and enters stud at $7,500. Midnight Storm (Pioneerof the Nile) and Mshawish (Medaglia d’Oro) have been reduced from $10,000 to $7,500, while Chilean import Daddy Long Legs (Scat Daddy) will command a fee of $5,000.

Fasig-Tipton Releases First Group of November Supplemental Entries

Fasig-Tipton has released the first group of supplemental entries to its 2020 November Sale, which are catalogued as hips 265- 279. Highlights include:

Fancier (Hip 267): Dam of Get Her Number (Dialed In), recent winner of the GI American Pharoah S. at Santa Anita Sept. 26. Get Her Number will make his next anticipated start in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Consigned by Vinery Sales, agent.
Synchrony (Hip 268): A stakes performer on both dirt and turf, the son of three-time leading sire Tapit is a six-time graded stakes winner of $956,652. From a prolific Pin Oak family, he is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including GSW Chocolate Kisses (Candy Ride {Arg}). Consigned as a stallion prospect by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Indelible (Hip 269): Daughter of Tiznow is a half-sister to Essential Quality (Tapit), recent winner of GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity. who is the early second favorite for the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Indelible is out of a graded stakes-placed half-sister to champion Folklore (Tiznow), who is in turn the granddam of undefeated Japanese Champion Contrail (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). Indelible’s weanling filly, by Bernardini, will sell after her as Hip 270. Both are consigned by Lane’s End, agent.
She’s a Truckin (Hip 271): Daughter of Lemon Drop Kid is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Sheza Smoke Show (Wilko), who is turn the dam of undefeated MGISW 2-year-old filly Princess Noor (Not This Time), expected to be one of the favorites for the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Consigned as a broodmare prospect by Pope McLean (Crestwood Farm), agent.
Miss Besilu (Hip 273): Regally bred 9-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Saint Liam (Saint Ballado), as well as to Grade II winner Quiet Giant (Giant’s Causeway), who is in turn the dam of another Horse of the Year in Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}). She is offered in foal to leading sire Into Mischief and her weanling colt, also by Into Mischief, will be offered before her as Hip 272. Both are consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Anabaa’s Creation (Ire) (Hip 277): A stakes winner and Grade I-placed on two continents, the daughter of Anabaa is also a half-sister to the dam of recent G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), as well as Eclipse Champion Sistercharlie (Ire) (Myboycharlie {Ire}). Offered in foal to Breeders’ Cup Champion Mendelssohn, she is consigned by Lane’s End, agent.
Inthemidstofbiz (Hip 279): Four-year-old filly by Fed Biz has won three consecutive races, including a three-length victory in the GII Thoroughbred Club of America S. Oct. 3 at Keeneland, which punched her ticket to the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. Consigned as racing/broodmare prospect by Buckland Sales (Zach Madden), agent.

Fasig-Tipton will continue to accept approved November Sale supplemental entries through the Breeders’ Cup.

The November Sale will be held Sunday, Nov. 8, in Lexington, Kentucky. The sale will begin at 2 pm.

Baffert: Improbable ‘Getting Really Good’ While Maximum Security ‘Didn’t Bring His ‘A’ Game’

It was business as usual for Bob Baffert Sunday morning at Santa Anita after the two-time Triple Crown-winning trainer savored victories on Saturday by undefeated Princess Noor and relatively unsung Improbable in Breeders' Cup Challenge Series races at the Arcadia, Calif., track.

Princess Noor proved convincingly she can handle two turns, giving Baffert a record 12th triumph in the Grade 2 Chandelier Stakes at 1 1/16 miles, while Improbable rallied from last to capture the G1 Awesome Again Stakes, vanquishing stablemate and odds-on favorite Maximum Security in the process.

“You're never sure about going two turns, and she was stuck behind horses coming out of the one hole, but she came out of the race really well,” Baffert said of Princess Noor, a $1,350,000 purchase owned by Saudi businessman Amr Zedan who campaigns as Zedan Racing

“She's still doing her thing and it looks like two turns is not going to be a problem for her,” Baffert added.

Princess Noor will likely be the favorite for the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland on Nov. 6.

Improbable and Maximum Security are likely headed to the G1 Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 7, Improbable earning a fees-paid berth with his Awesome Again victory and Maximum Security winning a similar spot through his triumph in the G1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar.

“Improbable and Max came out really well. I knew there was going to be a lot of pace, and we were going to sit off of it and then let Max run, but he was in between Midcourt and they were just bumping the whole way down the backside.

“They were in a full drive from the half-mile pole, but he didn't bring his A game, and Improbable is getting really good. He's got a lot of Grade 1's on his resume, he's filled out, matured, and Drayden (Van Dyke) rode a great race, just sat back there early on.

“He saw what was happening up front and let them go.”

Next up for Baffert is Saturday's Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md. Thousand Words worked five furlongs in 1:00.60 Saturday at Churchill Downs towards that goal while Kentucky Derby winner Authentic works there Monday.

“As long as Authentic works good, both horses will ship to Maryland on Tuesday,” Baffert said.

Princess Noor Cruises To Third Consecutive Victory In Chandelier

Zedan Racing Stables' unbeaten Princess Noor stretched out to two turns for the first time in her third career starts, making short work of her four rivals in the Grade 2 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., on Saturday.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, the Bob Baffert-trained daughter of freshman sire Not This Time won by 8 1/4 lengths, covering 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:45.59 and paying $2.40 as the heavy favorite. Varda completed a Baffert-exacta, finishing second ahead of Miss Costa Rica, with Illumination fourth and Make Mischief trailing the field.

This was Baffert's 12th win in the Chandelier, formerly known as the Oak Leaf Stakes.

The Chandelier is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series race, giving an automatic, fees-paid berth in the Juvenile Fillies to the winner.

Breaking from the rail, Espinoza allowed Princess Noor to settle in just behind another Baffert runner, Illumination, who took the field through early fractions of :23.51, :48.28 and 1:12.95 for the opening six furlongs.

Princess Noor shifted to the outside approaching the far turn, quickly put away Illumination on the turn for home and cruised to the wire in hand after a mile fractional time of 1:45.59.

Bred in Kentucky by International Equities Holding Inc., Princess Noor was purchased for $1,350,000 at the OBS April Sale of 2-year-olds in training earlier this year.

“The talent, the energy, the speed!” Espinoza said. “She dominated everyone with the energy she created during the race and I had a lot of confidence in her. Bob knows how to train his horses. She's really kind, and she doesn't need much. She does everything on her own, I'm just the pilot trying to find a way to have a little room to let her run and stretch her legs. It's so easy to ride these types of horses.

“It's my job to ride her with confidence, because I know she was the best filly in the race and I had to ride her like she was the best filly in the race.

“She reminds me of other great horses I used to ride like American Pharoah and California Chrome. The talent is there, we just have to let them be happy around the racetrack. I've been riding amazing horses, but as a filly, she's the best one I've ever ridden.

“It takes a team to have an amazing horse like this. It creates better energy when you have a good team. When all the team is happy and working together and pushing forward, things work out much better.”

Said Baffert: “I talked to Victor (Espinoza) before and I talked to all my riders I told them, 'Just ride your races'. When you are in the one hole they usually don't break as well but I think Victor rode her with a lot of confidence. He's been on enough good horses and he knows. He took his time and I saw the other filly (Illumination) go to the lead and they just rode their own race.

“I saw Victor get behind and I saw that nice move before the three-eighths and you can only do that when you have a Ferrari under you. Turning for home I was one-two-three and I thought, 'This is a nice feeling'. I was hoping the other one (Illumination) would have held on for third.

“This filly is just incredible and very talented. I don't train her as hard and I run her into shape. You never know if they can go two turns until they do it and it looks like that's not going to be a problem.

“This was perfect for her. If you don't have the clientele behind you its hard to get a filly like this but she was just a knock-out, she was something else.”
