Practical Joke Filly Tops OBS March Sale’s Second Session

Hip No. 311, a daughter of Practical Joke consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, went to Hideyuki Mori for $750,000 to top the second and final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2021 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at Friday's Under Tack session, is out of champion Valiant Emilia (PER), by Pegasus Wind, from the family of recent Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby winner Helium.

Hip No. 547, a daughter of American Pharoah whose quarter in :20 4/5 was co-fastest at Saturday's Under Tack session, was sold to Colombo Bloodstock Agency for $600,000. The bay filly, consigned by consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc., (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, is out of graded stakes-placed stakes winner Henny Jenney, by Henny Hughes, a half-sister to grade one stakes-placed stakes winner Zeewat.

Spendthrift Farm / Myracehorse.com went to $575,000 for Hip No. 357, a son of Kantharos consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The chestnut colt, whose quarter in :20 2/5 was Friday's co-fastest, is a full-brother to stakes winner Adventurous Lady out of Ari the Adventurer, by Pioneerof the Nile.

Hip No. 295, a daughter of Uncle Mo consigned by Pike Racing, Agent, was sold to Live Oak Plantation for $550,000. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Friday, is out of Town Tour, by Speightstown, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Moonshine Memories.

Sean Flanagan paid $550,000 for Hip No. 504, a daughter of American Pharoah consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 on Saturday, is out of Forgotten Miss, by Afleet Alex, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Woodlander.

Hip No. 507, American Passport, a son of American Pharoah who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 1/5, went to Hideyuki Mori for $550,000. The bay colt, consigned by Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel), Agent, is out of French Passport, by Elusive Quality, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Smooth Air.

Hip No. 531, a son of Gormley consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Breeze Easy LLC for $550,000. The bay colt, whose eighth on Saturday in :9 4/5 was the day's co-fastest, is a half-brother to stakes winner Little Kansas out of Green Eyed Cat, by Tale of the Cat.

High Point Bloodstock paid $475,000 for Hip No. 506, a son of Quality Road consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, a half-brother to stakes winner Curlin's Fox out of graded stakes winner Foxysox (GB), by Foxhound, turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 on Saturday.

For the session, 151 horses sold for a total of $19,004,500 compared with 150 grossing $14,355,000 in 2020. The average was $125,858 compared with $95,700 a year ago while the median was $70,000 compared with $50,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 18.8 percent; it was 37.7 percent a year ago.

For the entire sale, 326 horses sold for $38,265,000 compared with 295 bringing $27,349,500 a year ago. The average price was $117,377 compared with $92,710 in 2020 while the median price was $62,500 compared with $50,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 16.2 percent; it was 38.8 percent in 2020.

Strong Returns, Seven-Figure Sale Topper For Fifth Consecutive Year at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale conducted another strong session on Tuesday to close the 2020 edition of the sale. For the fifth consecutive year, a seven-figure juvenile topped the Timonium, Md., sale.

The sale-topper came during Monday's session, when Hip 118, a colt by record-breaking champion freshman sire Uncle Mo sold for $1.1 million to Donato Lanni, agent for Michael Lund Petersen. The dark bay or brown colt was consigned by Pike Racing, agent. Hip 118 worked an eighth in :10-flat during last week's under tack show. The Virginia-bred 2-year-old is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Azar out of a winning Mineshaft half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Woodlander.

A colt by Candy Ride topped the sale's Tuesday session when sold for $875,000 to Gary Young, agent. Offered as Hip 443 by Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables, the bay colt worked an eighth in :10 1/5 seconds during the under tack show. The session-topper is out of the winning Giant's Causeway mare Causara, a daughter of graded stakes winner Lady Belsara.

The sale's top-priced filly sold early during the first session, when a daughter of leading sire Into Mischief sold to Lauren Carlisle, agent for $500,000. Offered as Hip 4 by Hoby and Layna Kight, the bay filly worked a quarter in :21 3/5 seconds during the under tack show. The top filly is out of the graded stakes placed Dixie Chatter mare Global Hottie, from the immediate family of Horse of the Year Alysheba.

Hip 451, a daughter of last year's leading first-crop sire American Pharoah, was the highest-priced filly of Tuesday's session. The dark bay or brown filly was purchased for $325,000 by Speedway Stable from the consignment of Kirkwood Stables, agent for Midway Gallop LLC (video). The New York-bred filly worked a quarter in :22-flat during last week's under tack show. Hip 451 is out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Awesome Humor and to Surf Club, dam of Grade 1 winner Emcee and Baffled, who produced current leading second-crop sire Constitution.

Overall, 303 horses sold for a total of $23,572,500, good for an average of $77,797 and a median of $40,000. The sale marked the first time online bidding was available at a Fasig-Tipton auction; more than 50 horses received online bids, and approximately 15 were sold online.

Uncle Mo Colt Tops Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Opener At $1.1 Million

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale saw healthy returns during its opening session on Monday, including a seven-figure sale to the connections of last year's record-setting sale topper.

A colt by Uncle Mo topped the session when sold for $1.1 million to Donato Lanni, agent for Michael Lund Petersen. Offered as Hip 118 by Pike Racing, agent, the colt worked an eighth in :10-flat during last week's under tack show. Out of Miss Ocean City, the dark bay or brown colt is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Azar from the immediate family of Grade 1 winning millionaire Twilight Agenda. The session-topper was bred in Virginia.

Last year, Petersen went to $1.8 million to secure a sale record-setting Into Mischief filly. Now named Gamine, that filly is undefeated in three starts, and won last weekend's Grade 1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park in stakes-record time.

While the top colt was sired by a record-breaking champion freshman sire in Uncle Mo, the session's next-highest price went to a son of current first-crop sire Not This Time.

Lauren Carlisle, agent went to $650,000 to secure Hip 213, a colt by the speedy G3 Iroquois Stakes winner and first foal out of the winning Indian Charlie mare Sanctissima. The chestnut colt was consigned by Classic Bloodstock LLC, agent, and worked an eighth in :10 1/5 seconds during the under tack show. Hip 213 was bred in Maryland.

Carlisle also purchased the session's top filly, a daughter of 2019 leading sire into Mischief, for $500,000 earlier in the day. Consigned as Hip 4 by Hoby and Layna Kight, agent, the bay filly is out of the graded stakes placed Dixie Chatter mare Global Hottie, from the immediate family of Horse of the Year Alysheba. The Kentucky-bred filly worked a quarter in :21 3/5 seconds during the under tack show.

Overall, 152 horses sold for $12,632,500, good for an average of $83,109 and a median of $40,000. The RNA rate was 20 percent.

Uncle Mo Colt Brings $1.1M at F-T Midlantic 2yo Sale

A colt by Uncle Mo drew a $1.1 million final bid from Micheal Lund Petersen at Monday’s initial session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in Training sale in Timonium. Consigned by Pike Racing, agent, Hip 118 is out of Miss Ocean City (Mineshaft), the dam of GII With Anticipation S. winner Azar (Scat Daddy). This is the family of Grade I winners Twilight Agenda and Media Puzzle.
