Belmont Park: $52,382 Carryover In Friday’s Pick 6

The Pick 6 on Friday's card at Belmont Park will be bolstered by a $52,382 carryover, as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Thursday.

The $1 Pick 6, implemented at the current 48-day Belmont spring/summer meet, returned $431.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Thursday's sequence kicked off with Make Or Break [No. 5, $12] winning a one-turn claiming mile for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up in Race 4 under Benjamin Hernandez for trainer Antonio Arriaga.

In Race 5, the 6-5 mutuel favorite Regal Speaker [No. 3, $4.40] proved best in a nine-furlong inner turf allowance for state-breds 3-years-old and up. Irad Ortiz, Jr. engineered the winning trip for trainer Danny Gargan.

Theodora Grace [No. 11, $7.30] captured Race 6, a seven-furlong maiden claimer on the Widener turf for state-bred fillies and mares 3-year-old and up, under Jose Ortiz for conditioner Tom Albertrani. Sent to post as the second choice in the wagering, Theodora Grace got the jump on slow-starting 2-1 mutuel favorite Write This Down [No. 10.]

Flat Awesome Jenny [No. 3, $7.10] collared pacesetter Daria's Angel in the final jumps to win a one-turn claiming mile for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up in Race 7. Ortiz, Jr. provided the winning ride for trainer Orlando Noda.

Popular New York-bred Robin Sparkles [No. 5, $5.70], sent to post as the 9-5 mutuel favorite, won an open company allowance optional-claimer in frontrunning fashion in Race 8. With Ortiz up for trainer Bruce Brown, Robin Sparkles covered six furlongs on the inner turf in a swift 1:07.14.

With only four horses covered [Nos. 1,7, 8 and 13] in the final leg of the Pick 6, Mazal Eighteen [No. 9, $8.40] scored as the 3-1 mutuel favorite over 6-1 Lemon Taffy [No. 1] in Race 9. Dylan Davis authored the win for trainer Joseph Lee in the seven-furlong maiden claimer on the Widener turf for state-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

Featuring a $1 bet minimum and 15 percent takeout, the Pick 6 wager requires bettors to select the first-place finisher of six designated races on the card. A total of 75 percent of the full pool, minus takeout, will be distributed to bettors who select the first-place finisher of all six races. A consolation payout of 25 percent of the net pool will be distributed to tickets selecting 5-of-6 winners.

In the event there are no tickets with six winners, there will be a carryover of 75 percent of the net pool into the next day of the meet with the remaining 25 percent of the net pool distributed as a consolation payout to tickets selecting the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races on the card. On carryover days, the Pick 6 is offered with a 24 percent takeout.

The $1 Pick 6 replaced the Empire 6, a jackpot style wager featuring a $0.20 bet minimum first offered in August 2019 at Saratoga Race Course.

Friday's Pick 6 kicks off in Race 4 at 2:31 p.m. Eastern in a sequence that features four turf races, including a 1 1/16-mile optional-claimer on the Widener turf for sophomore fillies offering a purse of $92,000. First post on the nine-race card is 1 p.m.

Belmont: Friday’s Card Features Double Pick 6 Carryover Of $260,473

Friday's Pick 6 will be boosted by a $260,473 carryover as the multi-race wager went unsolved for a second consecutive race day on Thursday at Belmont Park.

The $1 Pick 6, implemented at the current 48-day Belmont spring/summer meet, returned $1,479 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Thursday's sequence kicked off with Dancingwthdaffodls [No. 3, $36.80] prevailing as the longest shot on the board in Race 4 with Jose Lezcano up for trainer Eduardo Jones.

Eric Cancel guided Ninth Hour [No. 6, $9.20] to victory for trainer Chris Englehart in Race 5, a six-furlong claiming sprint. The Last Zip [No. 12, $12.20], with Luis Saez up for Mike Maker, secured the win in Race 6 in a Widener turf route.

Higher Truth [No. 9, $8.50] rallied to win a 10-furlong inner turf test in Race 7 under Jose Ortiz for four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown.

In Race 8, Lezcano returned to the winner's circle aboard Jalen Journey [No. 5, $5.40], who left the gate as the mutuel favorite for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen in the seven-furlong optional-claiming sprint.

In the finale, Chulainn [No. 1, $19.60] secured the carryover as one of only five horses not covered in the loaded 11-horse field. Graham Motion trained the winner of the one-mile maiden claiming tilt over the Widener turf as Chulainn, with Manny Franco up, prevailed by a nose over Voliero [No. 2], who would have returned a $1 Pick 6 payout in excess of $130K to two tickets had he won.

Pair Of Six-Figure Carryovers Featured On Friday Card At Pimlico

There will be more to celebrate than just the start of Memorial Day weekend when live racing returns to historic Pimlico Race Course Friday with a trio of carryovers worth nearly $830,000.

Post time for the first of nine races is 12:40 p.m.

Maryland's state record jackpot carryover in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 has grown to $708,857.82 after going unsolved during Pimlico's last live program Sunday. Friday's sequence spans Races 4-9, kicked off by a maiden claimer for horses 3, 4 and 5 sprinting six furlongs on the main track.

Friday's feature comes in Race 8, a six-furlong, entry-level optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up. Favored at 7-5 in the program is Charles McGill's Maryland homebred Cry No More, a winner of two of his last three races including a popular front-running 6 ¼-length off-the-turf restricted allowance score May 6 at Pimlico. His only loss in that span came in the mud in an open allowance April 25 at Pimlico to Heir Port, who also returns in this spot as the 8-5 second choice.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Introduced in Maryland April 2, 2015 on opening day of Pimlico's spring meet, the Rainbow 6 had its previous state record carryover reach $345,898.33 spanning 31 racing programs before being solved by one lucky bettor for a life-changing $399,545.94 payout April 15, 2018 at Laurel Park. The winning ticket was purchased through Maine off-track betting.

In addition to the Rainbow 6, the 50-cent Late Pick 5 will have a carryover of $115,038.40 from Sunday's program. The popular wager gets under way in Race 5, a claiming sprint for fillies and mares 3 and up which have never won two races, scheduled for five furlongs on the grass. A field of 16 was entered, including Acadian Girl for main track only and four also-eligibles.

If a pair of six-figure carryovers aren't enough to whet bettors' appetites, the $1 Super Hi-5 will offer a carryover of $5,876.76 starting in Race 2, where 11 fillies and mares 3 and up are entered for the 1 1/16-mile starter-optional claimer on the grass.

Live racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Pimlico as well as a special Memorial Day holiday program Monday, May 31. With ongoing renovations to Laurel Park's main track, the Preakness Meet at Pimlico has been extended to Sunday, June 27.

Mandatory Payout Scheduled For Saturday’s All-Stakes Derby City 6 At Churchill Downs

There will be a mandatory payout in the 20-cent Derby City 6 on Saturday at Churchill Downs with all monies distributed to ticket holders with the most winners in the six-race series.

The jackpot carryover was $89,846 at the start of Thursday's eight-race card, and provided there are no single ticket winners Thursday or Friday, track officials estimate the force-out of Saturday's total Derby City 6 pool to eclipse $500,000 with new money.

Each race in Saturday's Derby City 6, which only costs 20 cents per combination, is a stakes race as part of Stephen Foster Preview Day. The sequence will cover Races 6-11 starting at 3:18 p.m. (all times Eastern).

The daily six-race Derby City 6 sequence has challenged bettors to select the winners of six consecutive races but the Jackpot pool only is paid if there is a single winning ticket. When multiple tickets contain six winners 90 percent of that day's pool is paid out and 10 percent is added to the Jackpot carryover. Again, Saturday's Derby City 6 pool will be paid to all ticket holders with the most winners in the six-race series.

Takeout on the Derby City 6 is just 15 percent, which is one of the lowest multi-race wager takeout rates in American racing.

Saturday's sequence features the $150,000 Blame for 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles (seven entries); the $150,000 Shawnee for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles (eight entries); the $150,000 Regret (Grade III) for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles on turf (nine entries); $150,000 Matt Winn (GIII) for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles (eight entries); $150,000 Aristides for 4-year-olds and up at six furlongs (10 entries); and $110,000 Douglas Park Overnight Stakes for 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles on turf (nine entries).

All 11 races on the Stephen Foster Preview Day card at Churchill Downs are scheduled to be televised on Fox Sports 2 from 12:30-6 p.m. as part of the “America's Day at the Races” coverage produced by the New York Racing Association.
