Golden Gate Fields Has $44,023 Early Pick 5 Carryover On Saturday

With no winning tickets in the Early Pick 5 on Friday afternoon at Golden Gate Fields in Albany, Calif., the Saturday program features an Early Pick 5 carryover of $44,023. Track officials project at least a quarter million dollar new-money bet into the Saturday carryover.

The 50-cent minimum Early Pick 5 consists of the first five races and is a popular, low 14% takeout bet. Race 1, the first leg of the Early Pick 5, has a scheduled post time of 11:45 a.m. PT/2:45 p.m. ET. The last leg is Race 5, with an approximate post of 1:45 p.m. PT.

Race 1 is a maiden claiming sprint with eight set to compete. The morning line favorite, Mr Botanicals, is likely to go off as a heavy favorite. Race 2 is a contentious heat for hard-knocking claiming sprinters, and the third race is a similarly competitive group of routers. Among the main contenders in Race 3 are Good Bye Putin and Rocks and Salt, both shipped north by trainer Carla Gaines in search of easier company.

Race 4 is the only turf race in the sequence – a maiden special weight route for fillies and mares. Local contender Assignation comes off a runner up finish at the level and is the 9-5 morning line favorite while Hall of Famer Neil Drysdale sends Bellize back to the Bay Area after a second-place finish at Golden Gate in October. Race 5, another sprint race, attracts synthetic specialist Bear Chum, an ultra-impressive 8 for 10 on the Golden Gate Tapeta. He is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field of 8.

Eleven races are on the docket for Saturday's card. The signature event is Race 9, the Bear Fan Stakes for California-bred filly and mare sprinters. A large field of 13 is entered to run.

Horseplayers should also note that Sunday afternoon is Closing Day of the fall meet, with mandatory payouts in the Golden Pick 6, Rolling High 5, and both Pick 5 wagers. Like Saturday, Sunday has 11 races and an 11:45 a.m. PT early first post.

No Sunday Winner Means $201,241 Pick 5 Carryover Friday At Monmouth

A Pick 5 carryover of $201,241 will await bettors for Friday's six-race card at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., after a trio of longshot winners on Sunday failed to produce a single ticket with all five winners through the opening five races.

Woodbine: $66,725 Pick-5 Carryover Thursday, Free Past Performances Available

Woodbine Racetrack's Canada Day lineup on Thursday has been bolstered by a $66,725.27 carryover for the Pick-5.

The $66,725.27 carryover comes from last Sunday's card after no horseplayers were able to nail down a five-of-five winning ticket. This marks the second carryover in less than a week for the Woodbine Pick-5. Horseplayers wagered $531,705 on last Friday's Pick-5, which featured a similar carryover to this Thursday's offering.

Woodbine and the Daily Racing Form have partnered to provide free past performance program pages for Thursday's entire eight-race card. The Pick-5, which features a $0.20 minimum, will start in Race 2. The free past performance pages can be downloaded here.

Thursday's feature race is the Grade 3 $150,000 Dominion Day Stakes (Race 7), headlined by reigning Canadian Horse of the Year Mighty Heart.

Woodbine will also welcome back spectators for the first time in 2021 on Thursday, as the track is now permitted to host 25 per cent of its outdoor capacity under Ontario's current 'Roadmap to Reopen' plan.

Post time for Thursday's eight race card is 1:20 p.m (ET).

Canterbury’s Opening Night Handles $1.8 Million; $91,333 Pick 5 Carryover Wednesday

Canterbury's 65-day racing season got underway Tuesday with a small, but very lively crowd capped at somewhere around 2,500. Total handle on the opening night card was $1,845,976.

The 50 cent Pick 5 was elusive to bettors who wagered $135,332 into the pool. With no winning tickets, the carryover into Wednesday evening is $91,333.

“People, the fans, seem so happy to be back,” trainer Valorie Lund said. “I had complete strangers wishing me luck.”

Masks are no longer required for the fully vaccinated, so smiling faces could be seen everywhere.

One of those smiling faces was owner Peter Mattson of Prior Lake, Minn. His Elusive Amelia won the first race, Astronaut Oscar the second and Owen's Pleasure the third.

Had he ever won three races in one night?

“Not that I recall,” said Mattson. “I haven't won three races in a month,” said the self-deprecating Mattson, who was third leading owner in 2020.

Mattson's horses were not done yet however. Minnesota Lucky finished off the board in the fifth but Thealligatorhunter, who Mattson co-owns with trainer Tim Padilla, won the eighth race by open lengths.

Jockey Alonso Quinonez was aboard three of the Mattson winners and Chad Lindsay another. Quincy Hamilton brought in the longest price of the night, taking Papa Rizzo gate to wire at 37 to 1 and paying $77.20.

Three riders new to the jockey colony this season, Lindey Wade , Ruben Fuentes and Luis Negron, had one win each.

The $1 Pick 6 also went un-hit. The carryover into Wednesday is $7,714.87. First post is 5PM CDT.
