Park Lane Stables Seeks New Location After Eviction Noctice

Park Lane Stables RDA is seeking an alternative location for its operation after its landlords served notice of eviction, the charity announced on Thursday.

Originally given an eviction notice on New Year's Eve, the riding school charity, which provides therapy and riding lessons for people with and without disabilities, successfully raised over the £1 million needed to stay at its current Teddington location. However, the landlord revised the amount required to purchase the property to £1.3 million, the amount generated by the fundraising effort. In addition, another offer from a separate party had been received at the new higher price, so the temporary new home for Park Lane will be at Manor Farm Stables in Petersham, Richmond, beginning on June 1 while Park Lane looks for a permanent location.

“Our first concern is for the Park Lane Stables family and our horses,” said a spokesperson for the Park Lane Stables trustees. “Thanks to the astonishing support of the public, we now have the means to secure the charity's future and are now looking at alternative locations within the borough, to ensure we can maintain our RDA activities, keep accessibility easy for all our riders, and allow us to retain our colleagues and volunteers.”

Park Lane Stables Fundraising Update

Since the start of a crowdfunding effort for Park Lane Stables RDA (Riding for the Diabled), over £362,000 has been raised toward the charity's goal of £1 million generated by Feb. 24.

The Teddington-based riding school's landlord is not renewing their lease and is selling the property. The £1 million would go toward the purchase of the property and allow Park Lane Stables to continue its mission of providing therapy and happiness to children and adults with and without disabilities and mental health challenges. Normally, without the COVID-19 pandemic, the stables provide over 3,000 sessions of therapeutic riding a year.

The property where the riding school is located has recently been listed as an asset of community valute (ACV) which is a significant step towards securing Park Lane's future in London.

Stables Manager Natalie O'Rourke said, “ACV status is really important as it really strengthens our cause. I would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who has contributed to the 'Save Our Stables' fundraising campaign so far. The generosity and community strength at this tough time in our history has been truly heartening. The stables provide a lifeline for many families that will be devastated to lose the horses from the community.”

Park Lane Stables Fundraiser Underway

A crowdfunding effort has been started for Park Lane Stables RDA (Riding for the Disabled), a riding school charity that provides therapy and riding lessons for people with and without disabilities in London. Run by Natalie O'Rourke, the Teddington-based riding school's landlord is not renewing their lease and selling the property. A total of £1 million is needed by Feb. 24 to enable Park Lane to purchase the property and secure their future in the community. The riding school has already raised over £183,000 toward their goal.

Park Lane first drew international notice with #tinyponyatyourwindow during the first London lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stable volunteers cheered those self-isolating with their pony Annie's Whizz, who eventually would visit over 300 people in their homes, schools, hospitals and care homes.
