Myboycharlie’s Lastotchka Slays Gladiateur Rivals

In the money in three stakes outings since closing last term with a career high in Saint-Cloud's G3 Prix Belle de Nuit, Jean-Marie Beguigne trainee Lastotchka (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}–Muthla {Fr}, by Muhtathir {GB}) regained the winning thread and doubled her pattern-race haul by dominating the closing stages of Sunday's G3 Prix Gladiateur at ParisLongchamp.

The 16-5 chance was quickly into stride to race second passing the judge first time and found a comfortable rhythm in third along the backstraight. Taking closer order on the home turn before claiming the lead in early straight, she was safely clear approaching the final furlong and stayed on strongly under continued rousting to easily hold closest pursuer Fasol (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) by two lengths. Vert Liberte (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}) was 1 3/4 lengths away in third, denying Moon Wolf (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) by a nose in a bobbing finish for third. According to jockey Theo Bachelot, Lastotchka lost her off fore shoe soon after the start.

“She is such a sweet and consistent filly, she stays well and proved it on many occasions last season, such as when winning a Group 3 over 14 furlongs at Saint-Cloud,” said Beguigne. “She has been a bit slow to come around and be at her best this season, but her last run in Deauville did her a lot of good. I will let her recover from her efforts today and have her ready again for the [Oct. 29] G1 Prix Royal-Oak [over this course and distance].”

Pedigree Notes
Lastotchka, a half-sister to the unraced 2-year-old colt Majestic Glory (Fr) (Olympic Glory {Ire}), is the first foal out of Muthla (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}), whose second dam Colza (Alleged) produced G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero Linda's Lad (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and G3 Badener Meile placegetter Ulterior Motives (GB) (Selkirk). Descendants of the April-foaled bay's stakes-winning fourth dam Dockage (Riverman) include G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-winning sire Rail Link (GB) (Dansili {GB}), Rail Link's G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris-winning half-brother Crossharbour (GB) (Zamindar) and G1 Derby, G1 St Leger and G1 Gold Cup runner-up Mojo Star (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}).

Lope De Vega’s Beauvatier Remains Unbeaten After Prix La Rochette Triumph

Yann Barberot trainee Beauvatier (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}–Enchanting Skies {Ire}, by Sea The Stars {Ire}), who went three-for-three in July's Listed Prix Roland de Chambure at Deauville when last seen, continued his impressive rise through the grades with a comfortable victory in Sunday's G3 Prix La Rochette at ParisLongchamp.

The 3-10 favourite, who attained 'TDN Rising Star' status at Chantilly in May, was under a firm hold off the pace in fourth through the initial fractions of this pattern-race bow. Making smooth headway into contention in the straight, he quickened smartly to seize control approaching the final furlong and was pushed out in the closing stages to easily withstand the late bid of Evade (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) by a length. Fellow Rising Star Havana Cigar (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) was a neck adrift in third.

“I am so delighted and how lucky we are to have such a young prospect who keeps winning all the time,” said winning owner Gitte Allaire. “I hope this is just the beginning of a long story. Maxime [Guyon] said he was very satisfied with the performance and the horse did exactly what he wanted him to do. Maxime could have asked him anything, he did the job and could have done so much more. We'll leave talk of the [Oct. 1 G1 Prix Jean-Luc] Lagardere to our trainer Yann Barberot. I want to congratulate Yann and the whole team.”

Pedigree Notes
Beauvatier, a €160,000 Arqana August purchase and half to a yearling filly by Siyouni {Fr}), is the first of two foals produced by Listed Prix de Thiberville runner-up Enchanting Skies (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), herself a sale-topping €500,000 Baden-Baden September yearling in 2016. The February-foaled dark bay's dam is one of four stakes performers out of Listed Kolner Fruhjahrs-Stuten-Preis third Estefania (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}), headed by G1 Preis von Europa victor Empoli (Ger) (Halling). Estefania, in turn, is out of a half-sister to multiple Group 1-winning G2 German 1000 Guineas and G2 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) heroine Elle Danzig (Ger) (Roi Danzig). Beauvatier becomes Lope De Vega's 66th pattern-race winner.

ParisLongchamp: Moulin Opportunity For Big Rock

With no Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) lurking in Sunday's G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, the way is clear for Big Rock (Fr) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}) to bag that elite contest that his portfolio demands.

Having met his match in Ace Impact (Ire) in the 10 1/2-furlong G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, Yeguada Centurion SL's G3 Prix de Guiche and G3 Prix la Force winner came up short against Cheveley Park Stud's high-class filly in Deauville's G1 Prix Jacques le Marois last month but that form looks enough in what is a winnable renewal on paper.

Team Valor International and Gary Barber's Facteur Cheval (Ire) (Ribchester {Ire}) has proven himself at this level on his last two starts, finishing third in a blanket in the G1 Prix d'Ispahan over another furlong and 55 yards before making Paddington (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) work in the G1 Sussex S.

“Even though it's back in four and a half weeks which sounds like a reasonable amount of time, in the back of my mind I'm hoping he doesn't react to that last race, it certainly knocked out Paddington,” Team Valor CEO Barry Irwin said. “We are hopeful for a good race because Big Rock likes to go off in front and we need to have a target. The races where he hasn't ran quite up to scratch this year are when he got too far behind in a paceless race.”

Derby Rematch At Baden-Baden

In the day's G1 153rd Wettstar.de Grosser Preis von Baden, the G1 Deutsches Derby one-two Fantastic Moon (Ger) (Sea The Moon {Ger}) and Mr Hollywood (Ire) (Iquitos {Ger}) resume their rivalry, with the former having to bounce back from a beating from Nations Pride (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) in the G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich in late July. TDN Rising Star Mr Hollywood arrives fresh after a break since the Hamburg Classic and may offer the sternest threat to Ecurie Altima and Gerard Augustin-Normand's standard-setting G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud-placed Zagrey (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}).

Rochette Task For Beauvatier

Back at ParisLongchamp, Philippe Allaire and Haras d'Etreham's Listed Prix Roland de Chambure-winning TDN Rising Star Beauvatier (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) bids to maintain his unbeaten record in the seven-furlong G3 Prix la Rochette, where he meets fellow TDN Rising Star Havana Cigar (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}). White Birch Farm's grey is up a furlong, having finished third in Deauville's G3 Prix de Cabourg. In the 10-furlong G3 Prix du Prince d'Orange, the exciting G2 Prix Eugene Adam winner Horizon Dore (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}) builds towards a major autumn target in the Gousserie silks made famous by a similar type in Sealiway (Fr).

Cotai Glory’s Tiger Belle Purrs In Paris

Ado McGuinness trainee Tiger Belle (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}–Dark Acclamation {Ire}, by Acclamation {GB}) made a stakes breakthrough in July's Listed Marwell S. at Naas and followed up with a career high in Thursday's G3 Prix d'Arenberg to punch her ticket to the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye back over ParisLongchamp's five-furlong strip on Arc weekend.

Sharply into stride to claim an immediate lead racing along the fence, the generously priced 9-1 chance poached a decisive edge with 300 metres remaining and kept on relentlessly under mild urging inside the final furlong to hold the late bid of Dawn Charger (Ire) (Soldier's Call {GB}) by an ultimately snug neck. Graceful Thunder (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) was the same margin back in third as foreign raiders filled the first four slots home.

“The gate was a huge factor, we wanted to take advantage of that and she's toughed it out really well,” said assistant trainer Stephen Thorne. “Cristian [Demuro] is a prolific rider here in France, he came highly recommended and he's done exactly what we've asked him to do. She's a straightforward ride, she's got a lot of gate speed and we used that to her advantage. She did the job over a stiff five [furlongs] on soft ground in Naas the last day, she's added another string to her bow and it opens up more doors for her now. We have a huge bunch of owners supporting the filly here today and we're delighted. It was a big team effort to get her here in good shape, we have to work up the grades and we have her entered for the [G1 Prix de l'] Abbaye. She's not overly big, but she's got a big heart and we might be back here on Arc weekend.”

Pedigree Notes
Tiger Belle is the second of four foals and lone performer produced by a daughter of Listed Woodcote S. third On The Dark Side (Ire) (Kheleyf), herself a half-sister to G3 Select S. victor Red Badge (Ire) (Captain Rio {GB}). The April-foaled bay is half to a yearling colt by Inns Of Court (Ire) and a weanling colt by Galileo Gold (GB). She hails from the family of G1 Fillies' Mile victrix Red Bloom (GB) (Selkirk), MG1SW sire Ibn Bey (GB) (Mill Reef) and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Roseate Tern (GB) (Blakeney {GB}).
