Love Pointing to Yorkshire Oaks

Dual Classic heroine Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will skip the G1 Irish Oaks and instead point for the G1 Yorkshire Oaks in August, Racing Post reported on Monday. The Aidan O’Brien pupil, who won the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in June and the G1 Investec Oaks at Epsom on July 4, will then target the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

“Love doesn’t run this weekend,” O’Brien told Racing Post. “She is perfect. What we are thinking at the moment is that she probably going to go straight to York for the Yorkshire Oaks, and then on to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after that.”

“We are going to run Ennistymon (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), and Passion (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who also ran at Epsom,” O’Brien said of his Irish Oaks fillies. “We’re also planning on running Laburnum (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who was just beaten in an Oaks trial at Naas, as well as Snow (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who won the Oaks trial at Cork.”

ParisLongchamp Hosts Fete Nationale Card

France’s FĂȘte Nationale is without its racing centrepiece on Tuesday, with the G1 Grand Prix de Paris moved to September, but there are still three pattern races and a listed race for 2-year-olds for the recalled crowds at ParisLongchamp. Perhaps the most intriguing contest on the fixture is the G2 Prix de Malleret for 3-year-old fillies over 12 furlongs, where Khalid Abdullah’s Bonne Idee (GB) (Frankel  {GB}) bids to extend her winning streak. Looking in need of this trip when beating her subsequent Listed Prix Melisande-winning stablemate Alkandora (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in a 10 1/2-furlong conditions event at Chantilly a month ago, she will be tested by Gerard Augustin-Normand’s Vaucelles (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}) who was fourth in the G1 Prix Saint Alary on that same card.

Opening the card is the G3 Prix du Lys, where a potential contender for the aforementioned Grand Prix de Paris surfaces in the unbeaten Magnier/Tabor/Smith representative Measure of Time (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}). Trainer Andre Fabre has won this on 15 occasions and the bay is his sole runner this time, having won with authority over this 12-furlong trip at Clairefontaine June 4. He faces Godolphin’s gelding Volkan Star (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), who beat the subsequent G2 Dante S. winner Thunderous (Ire) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) in the Listed Fairway S. over 10 furlongs at Newmarket June 27. “Volkan Star has some very solid form around him now and came out of the Fairway S. well,” Charlie Appleby said. “He has galloped all the way to the line on both his starts this season and the step up to a mile and a half shouldn’t be a problem. A repeat of his last run should make him hard to beat.”

The juveniles get their chance in the seven-furlong Listed Prix Roland de Chambure, with a trio of unbeaten colts headed by the Haras de la Gousserie’s June 19 Chantilly conditions scorer Sealiway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}) from the Frederic Rossi stable, while the 14-furlong G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil sees the June 14 G2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier winner San Huberto (Ire) (Speightstown) bid to defy a three-pound penalty.  Fourth that day, Called To the Bar (Ire) (Henrythenavigator) re-opposes alongside the veteran Holdthasigreen (Fr) (Hold That Tiger) who was uncharacteristically tame effort when 10th in that contest.

Goken’s Livachope Makes All in the Prix du Bois

Alain Chopard’s homebred Livachope (Fr) (Goken {Fr}) became the first winner for her Haras de Colleville-based freshman sire (by Kendargent {Fr}) when annexing a May 13 newcomers’ heat at Chantilly, registering a first stakes success for Goken back there in the June 14 Listed Prix La Fleche last time, and completed the hat-trick in pattern-race company by plundering Thursday’s G3 Prix du Bois over five furlongs at ParisLongchamp. She was the sharpest of six into stride and dictated on the lead at a modest pace through the initial strides of the straight dash. Increasing the tempo from halfway, the 16-5 second favourite came under pressure when threatened with 350 metres remaining and was ridden out inside the final furlong to comfortably withstand the persistent attention of 11-10 pick Axdavali (Fr) (Goken {Fr}) by 3/4-of-a-length. Princesse de Saba (Fr) (Dariyan {Fr}) raced behind the leading duo throughout and ran on well to finish one length further adrift in third.

“It is a wonderful result for her owner-breeder Alain Chopard, who is so passionate, and all those working in the yard and I’m moved to tears,” admitted assistant trainer Florent Guy. “Jane [Soubagne] detected her potential very early on and has done a sensational job training her to a third win with the filly showing improvement in each start. She is now a Listed and Group 3 winner, she’s still undefeated and we’ve yet to find her limit. Entries for the [July 19] G2 Prix Robert Papin were made this morning, but she wasn’t among them as we felt four races and four trips from the South West in such a short period could be too much. We can now freshen her up and have next month’s [G1] Prix Morny [at Deauville] in mind.” Winning rider Anthony Crastus added, “I let her do her own thing and when I saw that the favourite [Axdavali] could not give more alongside us I felt very confident and was always in control. We know she has a tendancy to hang right so I was wary, but she didn’t do it today and that’s a sign that she’s getting more mature and professional. She gave me the feeling that she was a five-furlong filly in first two runs, but we won with something in hand and I’ve changed my mind after this. She could have gone an extra furlong without any problem and would still have won easily. This leads me to conclude that she can go up in class again and is definitely one to be reckoned with.”

Livachope is the first of two foals produced by Listed Criterium de Vitesse third Laia Chope (Fr) (Soave {Ger}) and the February-foaled homebred bay is a half-sister to the yearling filly Lizie Chope (Fr) (Captain Chop {Fr}). Descendants of her fourth dam Ellebanna (GB) (Tina’s Pet {GB}), herself a half-sister to MGSW G1 Haydock Sprint Cup runner-up Bolshoi (Ire) (Royal Academy), include another G3 Prix du Bois-winning filly in Cosachope (Fr) (Soave {Ger}) and Listed John of Gaunt S.-winning sire Mine (Ire) (Primo Dominie {GB}).

Racing To Resume In Paris

With Paris having been declared a green zone by the French government, racing will once again resume at ParisLongchamp, Saint-Cloud and Auteuil from next week.

On May 19, eight days after racing in the country resumed behind closed doors, racing was called off by government order in the country’s red zones, including Paris and its surrounding areas, causing meetings to be moved. Racing will still be held without spectators.
