Havana Grey’s Lady Hollywood In Charge At ParisLongchamp

Amo Racing And Omnihorse Racing's Lady Hollywood (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) had failed to see out the six furlongs of York's G2 Lowther S. when down the field last time Aug. 18, but back over five she was able to dominate ParisLongchamp's G3 Prix d'Arenberg on Thursday. Racing close to the early pace under Mickael Barzalona, the 4-1 shot was committed passing the two-furlong pole and led soon after en route to a 1 1/4-length verdict over Vicious Harry (Fr) (Harry Angel {Ire}). “She's a very fast filly,” trainer Alice Haynes said after greeting her first group winner. “She didn't quite stay the six furlongs last time and we'll probably end up at the Breeders' Cup [Turf Sprint]. She's had a lot of racing, so we'll give her a little break now.”

This was the second black-type win for the chestnut, who had beaten the leading Irish sprint fillies Mauiewowie (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) and Treasure Trove (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) in the Listed Marwell S. at Naas July 20 having won at Lingfield June 25 and at Beverley July 12. She also provides Whitsbury Manor Stud's first-season sire sensation with a breakthrough first group win as he continues to pour it on in the race for the bragging rights among the newblood sires.

The winner is the last known foal out of a relative of Momalorka (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}), who was the Filly Triple Crown winner in Qatar and finished third in the G3 Firth of Clyde S. The family also features the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S.-winning sire Where Or When (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).

Daughter Of Dank Debuts At Salisbury

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Thursday's Observations features a daughter of Breeders' Cup heroine Dank (GB) (Dansili {GB}).

2.50 Salisbury, Mdn, £24,000, 2yo, f, 6f 213yT
DOOM (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is the fourth foal out of the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and GI Beverly D. S. heroine Dank (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who is also a half to the top-level scorers Eagle Mountain (GB) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}) and Sulk (Ire) (Selkirk). James Wigan's April-foaled homebred debuts for the William Haggas stable in this valuable Bob McCreery Memorial British EBF Quidhampton Maiden Fillies' S. which has a habit of playing host to future pattern-race winners.

3.10 Haydock, Novice, £10,000, 2yo, c/g, 7f 212yT
CASTLE WAY (GB) (Almanzor {Fr}) shaped with abundant promise when second in a Newmarket maiden last month and is arguably the one to take out of that race which has hosted Motivator (GB), Frankel (GB), Roaring Lion and Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the past. Godolphin's Charlie Appleby-trained 425,000gns Book 1 graduate and half-brother to the high-class multiple Group 1-winning Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) encounters a William Haggas-trained newcomer in Garden Route (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a son of the G1 S A Nursery winner Cloth Of Cloud (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}) from the family of Artie Schiller (El Prado {Ire}) who represents Magnier/Shanahan/Nagle/Kantor.

5.37 ParisLongchamp, Debutantes, €27,000, 2yo, f, 8fT
CHASING THE SUN (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) was a €600,000 purchase at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale by virtue of the fact that she is a half-sister to the G3 Prix de Lieurey winner and G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp-placed Wind Chimes (GB) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}). Stepping out in the Qatar Racing silks who own 50% in partnership with Ecurie Des Monceaux, the Andre Fabre-trained chestnut encounters a pair of Wertheimer newcomers in the Carlos Laffon-Parias-trained Carvana (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), a half-sister to the G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Queen's Jewel (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), and Kovattack (Fr) (War Front), a Christophe Ferland-trained daughter of the G1 Prix Vermeille winner Galikova (Fr) (Galileo {Ire}).

Grosser Preis von Baden Next For ‘Tasso’ Before An Arc Defence

Last year's G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victor Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}), who ran a brave second in the G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth QIPCO S., returned to trainer Marcel Weiss's Mulheim base on Sunday afternoon. His trainer is targeting the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden on Sept. 4 for the chestnut, who will then return to ParisLongchamp to try for consecutive Arc victories on Oct. 2.

“He was very well and had no problems with the journey,” said part-owner Peter-Michael Endres. “It was no problem for him.

“Our thought now is to bring him to Baden-Baden for his next race [in September] and then to the Arc.

“It will be a similar route to last year. The only change was that he went to Ascot and that was the right decision.”

The 5-year-old entire opened his season with a surprising sixth in the G2 Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft, but quickly bounced back to form with a 3 1/2-length score in the G2 Grosser Hansa-Preis at Hamberg on July 2.

Endres added, “I think he can go on this [quicker] ground–as we have seen. On softer ground, some of the other horses are not as good on it as he is.”

“The hospitality at Ascot was marvellous. It was a very good journey. We like to win, but to gain second place and also how he has done it, we are very happy about that.”

“When he won the Arc, people thought the horses he beat were not as good as they thought before,” added Endres. “Now you think nearly the best 3-year-olds had problems against older horses–and he is one of the best. So, we are looking forward to going back to the Arc.”
