Arc Weekend Attendance Capped at 1,000 People, Including Racing Staff

Just seven days ahead of the Oct. 3-4 G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe meeting, Paris and its immediate suburbs were placed into the Reinforced Alert Zone (ZAR) due to a rise in COVID-19 cases on Saturday. This requires France Galop to limit attendance at race meetings at ParisLongchamp, Auteuil and Saint-Cloud to only 1,000 people per day, including racing staff. Priority access will be given to connections of starters at each meeting of the weekend, with owners able to enjoy the day thanks to a quota of six badges.

Horses may be accompanied by a maximum of two people who must be registered two days before the day of the race at hebergementlongchamp@france-galop.com. They must also provide a declaration stating they have no COVID-19 symptoms. Racing professionals who have bought tickets will be automatically reimbursed. In addition, as long as Paris and its environs remain in the ZAR, ParisLongchamp, Auteuil and Saint-Cloud will be closed to the general public and access will be reserved for racing professionals (France Galop members) and PMU staff, within the limit of 1,000 people per meeting. Chantilly and Deauville are not currently affected by the restrictions, but all planned spectators events have been cancelled out of an abundance of caution.

Arc Crowd Limited To 5,000

A maximum of 5,000 people will be permitted on course at ParisLongchamp for the Oct. 4 G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, France Galop announced on Friday. Paris is once again considered a red zone for coronavirus and an exemption for a larger crowd could not be made. The same restrictions will apply to ParisLongchamp’s Oct. 3 card.

Access to the racecourse will be restricted to horsepeople (including some owners and breeders) and those required to put on the event.

A statement from France Galop read in part, “France Galop deeply regrets not being able to welcome the general public for the 2020 edition of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which promises another exciting renewal. All tickets and two-day passes already purchased for that weekend will be carried forward automatically to the 2021 edition. On request, tickets and two-day passes will be refunded.”

Founder Of Our Mims Retirement Haven Dies

Jeanne Mirabito, founder and president of Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, KY, died of cancer on August 5, reports Blood-Horse.

Mirabito founded the farm in 2007 in honor of Our Mims, a Calumet-bred multiple graded stakes winner. Mirabito first saw the filly on television in 1977 in her home state of New York and became enamored with the horse. Years later, when Mirabito moved to Kentucky, she came across Our Mims living on the same farm on which she was renting a house.

The mare was turned out with cattle and had limited human interaction; Mirabito said the mare had had minimal veterinary and farrier care. Still in love with the horse, Mirabito adopted the mare and rehabilitated her. Mirabito began Our Mims Retirement Haven in honor of her champion mare, offering mares a place to retire and live out their days once their broodmare careers ended. Our Mims died from colic at 29 and was buried in Calumet's cemetery.
