Unbeaten Tobys Heart to Stretch Out Versus Graded Company in Return

Unbeaten 'TDN Rising Star' Tobys Heart (Jack Milton) is aiming for a return to action in either the GIII Herecomesthebride S. at Gulfstream Park Feb. 27 or the GIII Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs Mar. 6. Both races are contested on grass at 1 1/16 miles.

Co-owned by Terry Hamilton and trainer Brian Lynch, the 3-year-old filly was impressive in a pair of efforts sprinting on the lawn last term.

After kicking off her career with a 'Rising Star' performance beneath the Twin Spires June 4–following a slow start, she unleashed an explosive run to graduate by 6 3/4 lengths–Tobys Heart followed up with a good-looking, come-from-behind score in a loaded renewal of Saratoga's Bolton Landing S. most recently Aug. 19 (video).

The second through sixth-place finishers in the Bolton Landing–Joy's Rocket (Anthony Cross) (second), Amanzi Yimpilo (Ire) (No Nay Never) (third), Mischievous Dream (Into Mischief) (fourth), Quinoa Tifah (Gemologist) (fifth) and Sweet Souper Sweet (First Samurai) (sixth)-have all added stakes victories since.

“She had two tiny chips removed from the front of her P1 on both ankles,” Lynch said. “We cleaned them up and gave her a little bit of time and I think it's been a blessing. She seems like she's blossomed–bigger, stronger filly. It gives you something to look forward to.”

Tobys Heart has posted eight workouts at Lynch's Palm Meadows base since mid-December, including a five-furlong spin in 1:03.45 (12/26) on grass Friday.

“She hasn't missed a beat since we put her back into training,” Lynch said. “We're looking to stretch her out and look forward to seeing what she shows us when we try her around two turns. She's doing everything right, so fingers crossed.”

Tobys Heart, a $5,500 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall yearling, brought $45,000 from Alistair Roden Bloodstock on behalf of Hamilton and Lynch after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at OBS March.

Bred in Kentucky by Trackside Farms, Tobys Heart is from the second crop of young Crestwood Farm stallion Jack Milton. She is out of the stakes-winning Lil's Lad mare Pick of the Pack, a half-sister to GSW Great Attack (Greatness).

Lynch and his aforementioned longtime client also campaign recent GIII John B. Connally Turf Cup S. winner Spooky Channel (English Channel). The duo, of course, also teamed up on popular GISW Heart to Heart (English Channel).

Impressive Maiden Winner Prevalence Could Show Up In Fountain Of Youth

Godolphin's sophomore homebred Prevalence, an impressive debut winner on the Pegasus World Cup (G1) undercard Jan. 23 at Gulfstream Park, breezed Friday morning in anticipation of a possible start in the $300,000 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (G2) Saturday, Feb. 27.

With exercise rider and assistant trainer Tom Molloy up, Prevalence went five furlongs in 1:01 at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream's satellite training facility in Palm Beach County. It was the second work following his 8 ½-length maiden special weight triumph.

“He worked good and he galloped out good. We're happy with him,” trainer Brendan Walsh said. “We're in good shape right now.”

Prevalence was sent off at 7-1 in his unveiling, which drew a full field of 12 including fellow first-time starter Stage Raider, a half-brother to 2018 Triple Crown champion Justify, and narrow favorite Holy Redeemer, by Blame.

After breaking a half-step slow, Prevalence quickly gathered himself and chased the pace for a quarter-mile before taking over the top spot through a half in 46.09 seconds. From there, the bay Medaglia d'Oro colt widened with each stride under a hand ride from Tyler Gaffalione, completing seven furlongs in 1:23.

“I thought he was a good horse before he ran, but did I expect him to do what he did? Absolutely not, especially one of mine first time out,” Walsh said. “They generally improve, so I would like to think that this guy has some improvement in him. We won't get too carried away. We'll move on to the next one, and he'll be given plenty of chances to prove himself as we go forward.”

The 1 1/16-mile Fountain of Youth is the next step for 3-year-olds on Gulfstream's road to the $750,000 Curlin Florida Derby (G1) presented by Hill 'n' Dale Farms at Xalapa March 27. There is also an optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds going 1 1/8 miles in the condition book for Thursday, Feb. 25.

“He ran so well at Gulfstream the last time we would probably like to keep him in something at Gulfstream. There's the Fountain of Youth and there's an allowance race there, as well. It's probably going to be one or the other,” Walsh said.

“We'll just see how he does here over the next few weeks and go from there. We'll let him tell us,” he added. “He'll probably have just a little work next weekend at some stage. If we go to the Fountain of Youth or the allowance race, he'll probably do a little bit next Friday or Saturday and that should set him up right.”

Jesus’ Team To Enter Dubai World Cup As ‘Fresh Horse’

Grupo 7C Racing Stable's Jesus' Team returned to the track at Palm Meadows Training Center Friday morning, kicking off preparation for a planned start in the $12 million Dubai World Cup (G1) March 27.

Jesus' Team enjoyed a week of frolicking in a round pen at Gulfstream Park's satellite training center in Palm Beach County following his second-place finish in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Jan. 23 at Gulfstream.

“He just jogged this morning,” trainer Jose D'Angelo said. “We're making a training schedule for Dubai.”

Jesus' Team's connections were looking to the $20 million Saudi Cup Feb. 20 as a possible target following the 4-year-old son of Tapiture's runner-up finish behind Knicks Go that pushed his career earnings over $1 million.

“Dubai will be Jesus' next race,” D'Angelo said. “We want a fresh horse for the Dubai World Cup.”

Jesus' Team won a $25,000 claiming race at Gulfstream May 8 after being transferred to D'Angelo's stable before going on the finish third in the Preakness Stakes (G1), second in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and rallying to finish second in the Pegasus World Cup.

Jesus’ Team In ‘Perfect’ Pegasus World Cup Drill; True Timber, Mr. Freeze Also Prep

Grupo 7C Racing Stable's Jesus' Team breezed a half-mile at Palm Meadows Saturday morning in preparation for a start in next Saturday's $3-million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The Jose D'Angelo-trained 4-year-old was timed in 48.50 seconds. Regular exercise rider Simon Rodriguez was aboard for the workout at Gulfstream's satellite training facility in Palm Beach County.

“Jesus' work today was perfect. I think, with this work, he will be ready for the Pegasus World Cup,” D'Angelo said.

Jesus' Team, who broke his maiden for a $32,000 claiming price at Gulfstream last March, has been stakes-placed in his last five starts, including a third-place finish in the Oct. 3 Preakness Stakes (G1) and a second-place finish behind Knicks Go in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. The Kentucky-bred colt most recently captured the Dec. 2 Claiming Crown Jewel at Gulfstream.

Jim Bakke and Gerry Isbister's Mr Freeze, who finished second behind Mucho Gusto in last year's Pegasus, breezed five-furlongs in 59.83 seconds Saturday morning at Gulfstream for his second Pegasus start. The Dale Romans-trained son of To Honor and Serve produced the fastest of 40 workouts recorded at the five-furlong distance. Romans also sent Pegasus also-eligible Coastal defense to the Gulfstream track for a half-mile breeze in 47.11 seconds.

Calumet Farm's True Timber breezed five-furlongs in 1:01 at Palm Meadows Saturday for a third start in the Pegasus. The Jack Sisterson-trained 7-year-old son is coming off a victory in the Dec. 5 Cigar Mile (G1) at Aqueduct by 5 ½ lengths.

The son of Mineshaft, who was transferred to trainer Jack Sisterson's stable upon the retirement of Kiaran McLaughlin in the spring, finished seventh and eighth, respectively in his first two Pegasus tries.

Trainer Todd Pletcher sent his three candidates for the $1-million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) to the Palm Beach Downs track for final five-furlong tune-ups for the 1 3/16-mile turf feature. Largent, who captured the Dec. 12 Fort Lauderdale (G2) at Gulfstream, and multiple graded-stakes winner Social Paranoia, who came off a 5 ½-month layoff to win a Dec. 16 optional claiming allowance at Gulfstream, were timed in 1:01.49. Colonel Liam, who captured the Dec. 26 Tropical Park Derby by 3 ¼ lengths, was clocked in 1:01.49.
