Revved Up To Stud in Oklahoma

Revved Up (Candy Ride {Arg}–Storm Flag Flying, by Storm Cat), a multiple graded-stakes placed winner of $372,524, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Lori and Francisco Bravo's River Oaks Farm in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He will stand for a fee of $2,000 as the property of the Revved Up syndicate.

A five-time winner at the races and placed in the GIII River City H. and GIII Arlington H., the Phipps-bred Revved Up, a $350,000 purchase out of the 2018 Fasig-Tipton July Horse of Racing Age Sale, is a son of the Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old filly of 2002, whose dam My Flag (Easy Goer) was–like Storm Flag Flying–won the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Revved Up's third dam is the legendary undefeated Personal Ensign (Private Account). This is also the female family of such worldwide stallions as Traditionally (Mr. Prospector), Miner's Mark (Mr. Prospector), Mr Speaker (Pulpit) and Fire Away.

Revved Up is bred on the extremely productive cross of Candy Ride over Storm Cat responsible for the likes of Horse of the Year Gun Runner and champion Shared Belief, among others.

“We are very excited about having him,” said Francisco Bravo. “He's a really well-bred horse. Candy Ride is a tremendous stallion and so are many of his sons, and the race record and pedigree of Storm Flag Flying speaks for itself. Revved Up had most of his success going long on the turf, but when you look at his bloodlines he should be a versatile stallion and we think he's going to generate a lot of interest among Oklahoma breeders.”

River Oaks also stands Atreides (Medaglia d'Oro), Caleb's Posse (Posse), Excaper (Exchange Rate) and Wilburn (Bernardini).

Revved Up Retired To River Oaks Farms In Oklahoma

Revved Up, a multiple graded stakes-placed son of Candy Ride, has been retired to stand his first season at stud at Lori and Francisco Bravo's River Oaks Farms in Sulphur, Okla. He will stand for a fee of $2,000 as property of the Revved Up Partnership.

Bred by the renowned Phipps Stable, Revved Up is by one of North America's top stallions and sire of sires in Candy Ride and out of Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and champion Storm Flag Flying. A five-time winner with earnings of more than $370,000, Revved Up finished second in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap and third in the G3 River City Handicap.

Revved Up ran for the Phipps Stable and trainer Shug McGaughey for much of his career, and then was sold for $350,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Horses of Racing Age in 2018 and finished his racing in the barn of trainer Mark Casse.

River Oaks also stands Atreides, Caleb's Posse, Excaper and Wilburn.

“As one of only a few tracks running last spring, we are now very rehearsed in conducting a safe race meet under pandemic restrictions and CDC guidelines,” said John Lies, racing secretary, announcer and oddsmaker at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs. “We broke new ground with the extended audience we reached last spring and look forward to keeping their attention with another exciting meet.”

Stakes races begin April 12 with the $50,000 guaranteed Wilma Mankiller Stakes, followed by the $50,000 guaranteed Highland Ice Stakes on April 13. A purse of $55,000 is also guaranteed for the Miranda Diane Stakes on May 3, the TRAO Classic Sprint on May 4, the Cinema Stakes on May 24, and the Will Rogers Stakes on May 25.

Closing out the spring meet stakes races on May 26 are the More Than Even Stakes and the Cherokee Nation Classic Cup. Both races carry a purse of $55,000 guaranteed.

“We worked with the Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma to adjust purses and to create the most competitive racing program possible,” Lies said. “Our hope is that the heightened class levels help us retain the stronger collection of shippers we enjoyed last year, while also providing richer opportunities for the local stock.”

Welder Oklahoma All-Breeds HOTY–Again

For the third year in a row, Welder (Visualiser–Dance Softly, by Tiznow), a millionaire Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbred, earned Oklahoma's 2020 All-Breeds Horse of the Year, presented by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission. The 8-year-old, owned by Ra-Max Farms (Clayton Rash) of Claremore, Oklahoma, trained by Teri Luneack and ridden by three-time Remington Park champion David Cabrera, is the only Thoroughbred to have ever won the award more than once. His $40,795 in Oklahoma-bred earnings were about $6,000 more than runner-up Eagles Fly Higher, a Quarter Horse, who had $34,800. Welder also became the only Thoroughbred horse in Remington Park history to win Horse of the Meet honors three years in a row.

The Oklahoma All-Breeds Horse of the Year award encompasses Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas and is based on annual Oklahoma-bred money earned by any horse on the racetrack among any of those breeds for the year.

In 2020, Welder won the Remington Park Turf Sprint, Oklahoma Classics Sprint and Silver Goblin S. at Remington Park. He also was the easy winner in the TRAO Classics Sprint at Will Rogers Downs for the fifth consecutive year. Welder has won 26-of-38 starts for $1,204,042.
