Chrono Genesis Pointed To Arc; Gets Murphy

Four-time Japanese Group 1 winner Chrono Genesis (Jpn) (Bago {Fr}) will be pointed to this year's G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, owners Sunday Racing have confirmed, with jockey Oisin Murphy set to take the ride. The 5-year-old mare's regular pilot, Yuichi Kitamura, is currently on the sidelines with an injury.

Third in both the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) and G1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) at three before taking the G1 Shuka Sho, the third leg of the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown, Chrono Genesis bested the Classic-winning colt Kiseki (Jpn) (Rulership {Jpn}) in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen last summer before checking in third behind Almond Eye (Jpn) (Lord Kanaloa {Jpn}) in the G1 Tenno Sho Autumn. She wrapped up her 4-year-old campaign with a victory in the G1 Arima Kinen over a shade further than the Arc trip, and was second to Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic before bouncing back to win this year's renewal of the Takarazuka Kinen on June 27. Her current rating of 120 makes her the world's highest-rated mare between 10.5 and 13.5 furlongs.

Commonwealth Cup Result Stands

Connections of Dragon Symbol (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) have lost their appeal to have the colt's disqualification from victory in Royal Ascot's G1 Commonwealth Cup overturned.

Dragon Symbol and the American-trained filly Campanelle (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) fought out a thrilling stretch duel in the six furlong contest, with Dragon Symbol crossing the wire a head the better, but the placings were reversed on account of Dragon Symbol bumping Campanelle on numerous occasions during the run and taking her off her line. Stewards on the day deemed the interference was enough to have prevented Campanelle from winning, and a British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel agreed on Thursday.

Watson Lodges Commonwealth Cup Appeal

Trainer Archie Watson has lodged an appeal with the British Horseracing Authority against the decision by stewards at Royal Ascot to disqualify Yoshiro Kubota's Dragon Symbol (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) from victory in last week's G1 Commonwealth Cup.

Dragon Symbol and Campanelle (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) moved into a joint lead approaching the final furlong of the Commonwealth Cup, at which point Dragon Symbol, ridden by Oisin Murphy, began to drift towards the far side rail, bumping Campanelle, with Frankie Dettori aboard, as he did so. Stewards deemed that at the time of interference, both horses were traveling equally well and they determined that the distance lost by Campanelle as a result of the interference cost her the win. Campanelle had been beaten a head on the line by Dragon Symbol, but was ultimately declared the official winner. No appeal has been brought against the four-day ban for careless riding copped by Murphy.

Watson's case will be heard before an independent disciplinary panel of the BHA on July 1.

Murphy, Gosdens, Godolphin Take Ascot Titles

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy secured his first leading rider title at Royal Ascot on Saturday, with John and Thady Gosden clinching the leading trainer title and Godolphin walking away as leading owner.

Murphy, whose last of five victories on the week came aboard Foxes Tales (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) in the penultimate race of the meeting, the Golden Gates Handicap, said, “I wouldn't have expected it if you had asked me on Tuesday morning if I would be leading jockey this week–of course not. It normally belongs on Ryan [Moore] or Frankie [Dettori], but they gave me a turn this week.

“Thanks very much to the fast horses. It has been a super week. It's special, because as I get older, I appreciate these days more and more. I know I'm only 25, but life, as we learnt this week, is precious, and it's a continuous reminder.”

“My best moment of the week was Alcohol Free [winning the G1 Coronation S.],” he added. “She came along at a very important time in my career last year–I was under a lot of pressure and I managed to nail a Group 1, and [Friday] was a similar scenario. The pressure was on.”

John and Thady Gosden became the first training partnership to lead the trainers' standings at Royal Ascot with four wins and a second, while Godolphin enjoyed three wins, including Kemari (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G2 Queen's Vase and Creative Force (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the closing-day G3 Jersey S.
