Half To Zaaki Debuts At Newmarket

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Saturday's Observations features a half-brother to Group 1 winner Zaaki (GB) (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}).

1.42 Newmarket, Mdn, £8,000, 2yo, f, 7fT
ZAAKARA (GB) (Bobby's Kitten) represents a rare link-up between Kirsten Rausing and Sir Michael Stoute, but the Freemason Lodge handler was at one time responsible for this debutante's half-brother Zaaki (GB) (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}) before he went to Australia to win three Group 1s. Zaaki took until his 3-year-old campaign to get off the mark, and with seven of her nine rivals having the benefit of racecourse experience here a bold show from the homebred will be significant.

HEY LYLA (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) debuts for her breeder Mascalls Stud and the Charlie and Mark Johnston stable and is a half-sister to Urban Fox (GB) (Foxwedge {Aus}), who won on her debut over this trip before scaling the heights when taking the G1 Pretty Polly S.
