Flatter Colt Strolls in Meydan Unveiling

PANADOL (c, 3, Flatter-Arradoul, by Dixieland Band), making his racecourse bow in this spot, was not the quickest away, but soon established a half-length lead as the field exited the chute. Bowling along and doing it very easily, the blaze-faced colt's advantage shrank on the bend. He was challenged by Anbar (Bodemeister) at the head of the lane, but shrugged off that foe to win going away by 7 3/4 lengths. Endifaa (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}) emerged late to be best of the rest, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Anbar, who held third in a blanket finish.

“He's a nice horse and did it very well today and showed good quality,” said jockey Mickael Barzalona. “At home, I got up on him in his last gallop and I could feel he was very green, but I was very pleased with him [today]. He was very professional. They asked me if I thought he could get farther and I think he can.”

OBS Catalogs 561 Juveniles for March Sale

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2021 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website and can be viewed here.

A total of 561 juveniles have been cataloged for the two-day sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, Mar. 16-17, with both sessions beginning at 11:00 a.m. Hips 1-282 will sell Tuesday and Hips 283-563 Wednesday. The Under Tack Show will span three days, beginning Thursday, Mar. 11 with Hips 1-188. Hips 189-376 will breeze Friday, Mar. 12 and Hips 377-563 will go Saturday, Mar. 13. All three sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the TDN, DRF, Blood-Horse and Past The Wire websites.

OBS will again offer Online Bidding during the March Sale. Buyers will be able to go to the OBS website and register to gain bidding approval, then access the OBS Bidding Screen with their credentials. For complete information on registration and online bidding please go to the OBS website.

OBS March 2-Year-Old Sale Catalog Now Online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2021 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com.

A total of 561 juveniles have been cataloged for the two-day sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16-17, with both sessions beginning at 11 a.m.

Hips 1 – 282 will sell on Tuesday: Hips 283 – 563 on Wednesday. The Under Tack Show will span three days, beginning Thursday, March 11 with Hips 1 – 188. Hips 189 – 376 will breeze Friday, March 12 and Hips 377 – 563 will go Saturday, March 13. All three sessions will begin at 8 a.m. The Under Tack Show and sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the TDN, DRF and Blood-Horse, and Past The Wire websites.

Gracing the front cover of the catalog is 2007 OBS March graduate Into Mischief, purchased for $180,000 by B. Wayne Hughes out of the M&H Training and Sales consignment. After winning three of six starts including the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park and earning nearly $600,000, he entered stud in 2009. Rising steadily the stallion ranks, he has topped the North American sire list for the past two years, becoming the first stallion breaking the $20-million mark in single-season progeny earnings in 2020. The long list of his current and recent major winners is headed by reigning Horse of the Year Authentic. His son Goldencents, also an OBS 2-year-old graduate, was the leading third crop sire in 2020.

For the past few years, OBS March graduates have upheld the sale's legacy as a prime source of top class racehorses. Twenty-nine March graduates have accounted for 41 graded stakes wins since the beginning of 2019, with 166 winning or placing in 376 stakes.

Laoban Filly Tops OBS Winter Mixed Sale Finale

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 Winter Mixed Sale ended on a high note as Hip No. 805, a New York-bred yearling daughter of Laoban consigned by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent was sold to Sand Hill Stables for $175,000 topping Wednesday's Open Session as well as the entire sale.

The bay filly is out of Best Reward, by Grand Reward, a half-sister to stakes-placed Avery Glenn.

Hip No. 616, a son of Mor Spirit consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Donato Lanni, Agent, for $115,000. The dark bay or brown yearling colt is out of Cat Be Nimble, by Tale of the Cat, from the family of graded stakes winner Niner's Home.
Hip No. 577, a yearling son of Into Mischief consigned by Summerfield (Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to First Finds for $92,000. The bay colt is out of Annabird, by Flower Alley, a half-sister to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Achiever's Legacy.

Dailey Bloodstock LLC paid $67,000 for Hip No. 652, a son of Laoban consigned by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent. The yearling bay colt is out of Double Dinghy Day, by Forestry, a daughter of graded stakes-placed Windsong.
Hip 673, a yearling son of Army Mule consigned by Summerfield (Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was purchased by Rosewood Stable for $65,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Fife, by Souvenir Copy, a daughter of stakes placed Musical Pal.
Hip No. 647, a anther yearling son of Army Mule consigned by Stuart Morris, Agent, was sold for $60,000 to First Finds. The chestnut colt is out of Dial the Doctor, by Dialed In, from the family of champion Unbridled.

For the Open session, 231 horses sold for a total of $2,054,800 compared with 199 horses bringing $1,648,900 in 2020. The average price was $8,895 compared with $8,286 last year, while the median price was $3,500 compared with $5,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 21.4 percent; it was 24.9 percent in 2020.

For the Consignor Preferred session, 101 horses sold for a total of $1,935,300, compared with 85 horses grossing $1,912,300 in 2020. The average price was $19,161 compared with $22,498 a year ago, while the median price was $10,100 compared with $13,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 28.8 percent; it was 37.9 percent last year.

For the Horses of Racing Age session, 74 horses grossed $1,696,500 compared with 70 selling for a total of $1,366,900 in 2020. The average was $22,926, up from $19,527 a year ago, while the median price was $13,000 compared to $11,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 10.8 percent; it was 26.4 percent in 2020.

For the entire Winter Mixed Sale, 406 horses sold for a total of $5,686,600, compared to 354 horses bringing $4,928,100 last year. The average was $14,006, up from $13,921 in 2020 while the median price was $6,000, compared with $7,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 21.7 percent; it was 19.4 percent in 2020.
