Sponsored by Alex Nichols Agency

2nd-SA, $61K, Msw, 2yo, f, 5f, post time: 4:35 p.m. ET
A pair of stablemates acquired about three hours apart at this year's OBS March Sale face off Saturday at Santa Anita. EDA (Munnings), bred by one of the sire's most fervent supporters Nate McCauley, was knocked down for $240K as a Keeneland September yearling last fall and was snapped up by Susan and Charles Chu's Baoma Corp. for $550K in Ocala after breezing an eighth of a mile in :10 flat. The April 5 foal is out of a winning half-sister to Aegean (Northern Afleet), a Wesley Ward-trained speedster who won her first two career starts, including a defeat of the boys in the GIII Kentucky Juvenile S. Eda was the most expensive of her sire's 18 juveniles sold this season. Censorship (Tonalist) is the latest produce out of SW & GSP La Grange (Curlin), the dam of MGP Whiskey Bound (Afleet Alex) and a half-sister to MSP Magic D'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) and to the dam of MSW & GSP Wendell Fong (Flat Out) and MSW Ruffenuff (Dialed In). Sold for just $10K at KEESEP, she also covered her furlong in :10 flat and fetched $300K from owners Pegram, Watson & Weitman, the priciest of nine Tonalist juveniles reported as sold this winter and spring. PATHETIQUE (Uncle Mo) cost Rigney Racing $450K at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale and is the first produce from Dothraki Queen (Pure Prize), who won the 2015 GII Pocahontas S. over this main track before finishing second in the GI Darley Alcibiades S. and a longshot third to Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) in that year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland. Dothraki Queen was scooped up by China Horse Club International for $950K at FTKNOV in 2016. Pathetique hails from the female family of GI Kentucky Oaks winner Blushing K. D. (Blushing John), GSW/GISP Sovereign Award winner Ambitious Cat (Storm Cat), Hong Kong Horse of the Year Electronic Unicorn (Housebuster) and SW February Storm (Storm Cat). TJCIS PPs

Juvenile colts kick off the festivities on GI Belmont S. day. Trainer Todd Pletcher will saddle three for the big one, and two members of the next generation in here. Wit's stablemate Keepcalmcarryon (Union Rags) cost $75,000 at the same auction. Gormley Represented By First Winner at Keeneland

2nd-Keeneland, $59,524, Msw, 4-23, 2yo, 4 1/2f, :51.75, ft, 2 1/4 lengths.
HEADLINE REPORT (c, 2, Gormley–Green Eyed Cat, by Tale of the Cat) was pounded into debut odds of 30 cents on the dollar and did his best work through the wire to become the first winner for his freshman sire (by Malibu Moon) Friday at Keeneland. Off slowly beneath John Velazquez and immediately under the pump, the bay quickly made up for lost time and was on even terms with La Belleza Negra (Cairo Prince) as they hit the top of the stretch. He struck to the lead outside the eighth pole and kicked on nicely through the final sixteenth of a mile to stop the timer in solid time. Conagher (Jimmy Creed) completed a Spendthrift-sired exacta. A half-brother to SW Little Kansas (El Kingdom), Headline Report was purchased by Eddie Woods's Quarter Pole Enterprises for $160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Sale last September. He was recently hammered down for $550,000 at the OBS March Sale after breezing a bullet eighth of a mile in :9 4/5. Headline Report's second dam was the dual Grade I winner Critical Eye (Dynaformer), who also serves as the granddam of MSW Critical Value (Bodemeister). The third dam includes Klaravich Stables' talented turf runner Takeover Target (Harlan's Holiday). Green Eyed Cat has a yearling filly by Mo Town and was most recently bred to Catalina Cruiser. Sales history: $160,000 Ylg '20 FTKSEL; $550,000 2yo '21 OBSMAR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $36,724. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

Notable US-Bred Runners in Japan: Apr. 24, 2021

In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this Saturday running at Tokyo Racecourse. Group 1 racing in Japan resumes next weekend with the two-mile Tenno Sho (Spring) at Hanshin:

Saturday, April 24, 2021
6th-TOK, ¥13,830,000 ($128k), Allowance, 3yo, 1600m
ANNUNCIATION (c, 3, Union Rags–Acquant, by Giant's Causeway) made up a ton of ground after missing the break over this track and trip Oct. 31 and graduated by a widening 3 1/2 lengths (see below, gate 3). The $230K Keeneland September yearling just failed by a neck after a similarly slow dispatch in a course-and-distance allowance Jan. 30 and should be a warm item to make amends here. Annunciation is out of a winning daughter of MGSW Social Queen (Dynaformer), the dam of GISW Force the Pass (Speightstown). Christophe Lemaire has ridden Annunciation in his first two starts and retains the call from gate two Saturday. B-Colts Neck Stables LLC (KY)

IRISH SENSE (c, 3, Quality Road–Miss Singhsix {Ire}, by Singspiel {Ire}) is one of four winners from five to race from his dam, winner of the GIII Obeah S. and runner-up in the GII Delaware H. despite her turf-leaning pedigree. A maiden winner at second asking going 1400 meters at Hanshin in December (video, gate 10), the $125K KEESEP purchase was a latest third when returning from a three-month winter freshening at Chukyo Mar. 13. Irish Sense has the rail draw, with Mirco Demuro in the irons. B-Normandy Farm LLC (KY)

12th-TOK, ¥21,000,000 ($194k), Allowance, 4yo/up, 1400m
LECCE BAROQUE (f, 4, Uncle Mo–My Fast One, by Elusive Quality) won her first two career outings over course and distance by 19 lengths combined–both times as the heavy favorite (see below, gate 10)–and most recently bounced back to something approaching her best with a second-place finish over 1200 meters at Nakayama Dec. 26. A $410K KEESEP yearling turned $525K OBS March breezer, Lecce Baroque is out of a half-sister to SW No Mo Dough (Uncle Mo) and SP Terrific Storm (Storm Cat). Lemaire will have to work out a trip from the outermost stall in the field of 16. B-MMM Stables (KY)
