SONIC STAR (c, 2, Into Mischief–Carolina Bertie, by Speightstown) is the first foal from his unraced dam, a half-sister to three-time Grade I winner Beach Patrol (Lemon Drop Kid), who has been represented by 36 winners from his two crops to race in Japan. A $300,000 purchase by Katsumi Yoshida at Keeneland September last year, the Feb. 5 foal hails from the family of MGSWs Hurricane Bertie (Storm Boot) and Allamerican Bertie (Quiet American). DOBBIACO (c, 2, Street Boss–Rubindy, by Bernardini) fetched just $25,000 as a KEESEP yearling, but improved dramatically and was hammered down for $450,000 at OBS March after breezing a furlong in :10 flat. There is pedigree to boot, as Rubindy is a half-sister to GSW Mo Tom (Uncle Mo); SW/MGISP Beautician (Dehere); MGSW Red Ruby (Tiznow); and SW Bella Castani (Big Brown). 4th-NKY, ¥13,720,000 ($93k), Newcomers, 2yo, 1200m
GRAN ORCA (c, 2, Liam's Map–Layla, by Union Rags) was the joint most-expensive of his sire's 58 yearlings sold (75 ring) in 2022 when hammering to TN Racing for $625,000 at Keeneland September 12 months ago. The dark bay's dam, an impressive maiden winner at first asking over six furlongs, is a full-sister to GI Santa Anita H. winner Express Train, who graduated by better than 14 lengths in his second career start. Third dam November Snow (Storm Cat) won the 1992 GI Alabama S. B-Dixiana Farms LLC (KY)

HISTORIAI (c, 2, Liam's Map–Cara Bella, by Ghostzapper) sold to Katsumi Yoshida for $525,000 at Keeneland September last year, the third-priciest yearling by his sire. A half-brother to GISW Silent Poet (Silent Name {Jpn}), the Mar. 31 foal is out of a half-sister to 2000 GI Preakness S. winner Red Bullet (Unbridled) and SW Millennium Allstar (Meadowlake). Stone Farm acquired the unraced Cara Bella for $60,000 in foal to Silent Name at Keeneland November in 2017. B-Stone Farm (KY)

This Mar. 18 foal failed to find a new home when bidding stalled at $15,000 at last year's OBS October Sale, but he became the second-priciest 2-year-old from the first crop of this full-brother to American Pharoah when hammering to Hideyuki Mori for $155,000 at this year's OBS March Sale (21 sold/25 ring) after working in :10 flat. JASPER ROBUSTO (c, 2, Khozan–Prize Informant, by Marciano) was purchased by Blaz Perez Stable for $27,000 at OBSOCT last fall, but blossomed over the next several months and was sold to Mori on behalf of the 'Jasper' owner Kazuo Kato for $265,000 at OBSMAR, the best of 25 juveniles (33 ring) by the sire during this season's breeze-ups (:9 4/5). The bay is out of a stakes-winning half-sister to Wise Answer (Wised Up), who nearly swept the Florida Stallion S. series in 2007, capped by a 10-length romp in the In Reality S. at Calder. PIKARI (f, 2, Twirling Candy–Laudation, by Congrats) is the second foal to the races for her dam, a stakes winner at two for Jerry Durant and Steve Asmussen and later acquired by Peter O'Callaghan's Woods Edge Farm for $150,000 with this foal in utero at Keeneland November in 2020. Produced by a half-sister to this year's G3 UAE Oaks heroine Mimi Kakushi (City of Light) and MSW Moment Is Right (Medaglia d'Oro), this March foal fetched $265,000 from Ciaran Dunne's Red Wings Enterprises at last year's Keeneland September Sale and lit up the tote at OBSMAR to the tune of $900,000 after working a furlong in :9 4/5. KINGS CROWN (JPN) (c, 2, Yoshida {Jpn}–Tulips Galore, by Giant's Causeway) is the first Japanese starter for his WinStar-based stallion and was acquired in utero for $45,000 at the 2020 Keeneland November Sale. The unplaced dam is a half-sister to New York-bred stakes winner Gambling Girl (Dialed In), runner-up in this year's GI Kentucky Oaks, third in the GI CCA Oaks and entered for Saturday's GI Alabama S. at Saratoga. The colt's third dam Eventail (Lear Fan), a half-sister to Take Charge Lady (Dehere), is responsible for Heart's Cry's dual Japanese listed winner Strong Souther (Jpn) as well as GSW Straight Story (Giant's Causeway). Well beaten behind the classy Perriere (Jpn) (Henny Hughes) in the Listed Hyacinth S. this past February, the $180,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling and $1.1-million OBSMAR pinhook exits a victory in a six-furlong Chukyo allowance July 15 (video, SC 16). A $310,000 Keeneland September purchase last fall by owner Koji Maeda, the bay shares a second dam with Dark Love (Arg) (In the Dark {Arg}), seven-length winner of the G1 Estrellas Juvenile at a mile on turf at San Isidro last month.
