CLARIFY (c, 2, Justify–Quote {GB}, by Galileo {Ire}) is the first foal from his dam, an €400,000 Arqana October yearling purchase by M.V. Magnier in 2017 who was stakes-placed in Ireland before heading to the U.S. to be part of this Triple Crown winner's second book. Quote, a half-sister to German Group 3 winner Samba Brazil (Ger) (Teofilo {Ire}), produced this colt Jan. 14, was bred to Maximum Security shortly thereafter and was exported to Japan. She produced a filly last April and a Lord Kanaloa (Jpn) filly this season. Christophe Lemaire rides from the rail. The stakes-placed All In Fun, a full-sister to MGSP Tight Ten, was acquired with this colt in utero for $125,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November Sale. ROUGE STUNNING (f, 2, Into Mischief–Boyne Beauty, by Giant's Causeway) opened her account at first asking with a comfortable victory going a mile at Chukyo July 2 (video, SC 7). The bay filly's unraced dam, a $700,000 purchase by Nobutaka Tada at Fasig-Tipton November in 2020, is a daughter of MSW/GSP Bubbler (Distorted Humor), the dam of champion Arrogate (Unbridled's Song) and SW Osare (Medaglia d'Oro).

MISS MATENRO (f, 2, Into Mischief–Miss Panthere {Jpn}, by Daiwa Major {Jpn}) is the first foal for her dam, who carried the silks of owner and breeder Chiyono Terada to victory in Group 2 company in Japan in 2018, where she had future Horse of the Year Lys Gracieux (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}) back in third. Miss Panthere continues to reside in Kentucky, where she has since foaled a full-brother to Miss Matenro and a colt by Authentic before visiting Flightline this year. Norihiro Yokoyama rode Miss Panthere to her Group 2 win and has the call on Miss Matenro. Into Mischief is the sire of 22 winners from 24 Japanese starters. B-Chiyono Terada (KY)

HAPPY IMAGE (JPN) (f, 2, Good Magic–Sassy Image, by Broken Vow) is out of a winner of the GI Humana Distaff S. and GI Princess Rooney H. and was purchased in utero by Big Red Farm for $110,000 at the 2021 Keeneland January Sale. The Apr. 30 foal is related to three winners from five to race, including the 15-time winner V J Day (War Front) and is bred on a cross over Fappiano-line dams that has resulted in Grade II-winning juveniles Vegas Magic and Dubyuhnell. MYSTIC LORE (c, 3, Arrogate–Folklore, by Tiznow) was beaten narrowly on career debut on turf back in February, but broke his maiden in fine fashion on the dirt the following month and tacked on the equivalent of a first-level allowance when last seen June 24 (see below, SC 7). Having been given a standby invitation for last month's Japan Dirt Derby, the $500,000 Keeneland September purchase finds a good spot here for his stakes debut. The son of 2005 champion 2-year-old filly Foklore boasts a big pedigree, as Folklore's half-sister Rhodochrosite (Unbridled's Song) produced Triple Crown winner Contrail (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), whose first-crop progeny flew off the shelf at last month's JHRA Foal Sale. Another half-sister to Folklore, GSP Delightful Quality (Elusive Quality), supplied 'TDN Rising Star' and two-time Eclipse Award winner Essential Quality (Tapit). Gender Agenda changed hands for $80,000 at Keeneland November last fall and produced a filly by Violence this season. ESCALE (c, 2, American Pharoah–Pretty Girl {Arg}, by Harlan's Holiday) is the latest to make the races from his well-traveled dam, a Group 1 winner in her native Argentina for Stud RDI in 2014, a listed winner in France for Mikel Delzangles in 2016 and twice placed at Grade II level in California in 2017, with Bonne Chance Farm part of the ownership. Escale was a $310,000 purchase by Koji Maeda at Keeneland last September. B-Bonne Chance Farm LLC (KY)

AIR SAGE (h, 5, Point of Entry–Nokaze, by Empire Maker) won three of his first four career appearances and did not disgrace when beaten just over eight lengths into eighth behind Titleholder (Jpn) (Duramente {Jpn}) in the 2021 G1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger). He makes his first start since a dead-heat third in a 10-furlong allowance in February 2022 and switches to the dirt, a surface his family has proven more than capable over. Half-brother Air Almas (Majestic Warrior) is a Group 3 winner on dirt, while full-brother Air Anemoi successfully negotiated the surface when tried for the first time Apr. 30. From the family of former leading Japanese sire Jade Robbery, Demi Plie looks to become the ninth winner in Japan for Justify and is bred on a cross that has resulted in 20 named foals, 13 of which have started and three of which are among the stallion's 45 winners to date.
