Century Dream Retired to Norton Grove Stud

Group 2 winner Century Dream (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}–Salacia {Ire}, by Echo of Light {GB}) has been retired and will stand at Norton Grove Stud next year. A stud fee for the G2 Celebration Mile and dual G3 Diomed S. victor will be announced later.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock Limited, the A. Belhab-raced 7-year-old's best performance was a third in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. in 2018, while throughout his 35-start career, he was also placed another four times at group level. Overall, Century Dream's record stands at 10 winners and another eight top three finishes to go with $723,357 in earnings.

Trainer Simon Crisford said, “Century Dream was an incredibly tough and consistent performer throughout his career winning five stakes races over a mile. He was a stable star for us over the past six seasons and was a pleasure to train. He is an extremely good-looking son of Cape Cross who will be a fabulous addition to Norton Grove's stallion roster.”

Added Bruce Raymond, Racing Manager of Rabbah Bloodstock of the half-brother to Group 1 winner King of Change (GB) (Farhh {GB}), “Century Dream was a wonderful racehorse. He was a Group 2-winning miler and amazingly consistent at the highest level– he never ran a bad race. He is a beautifully bred horse who I am sure will be a great addition to the stallion roster at Norton Grove Stud.”

Marmelo Transfers To Norton Grove Stud

Treble Group 2 winner Marmelo (GB) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}) will stand in Britain at Norton Grove Stud in 2022. The 2018 G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up has spent the last two seasons in France at Haras du Grand Courgeon.

Bred by Deepwood Farm Stud, the 8-year-old won seven of his 22 starts, with six of those wins coming in stakes company. He showed a particular penchant for France, winning the G2 Prix Kergorlay twice, the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil, and the G3 Prix de Barbeville.

Reflecting on his four-season career, the horse's trainer Hughie Morrison said, “Marmelo had a superb temperament, and was always easy to get fit being so clear-winded. When the Australian vets scoped him post-Melbourne Cup they couldn't believe the size of his windpipe. He was obviously one of the best stayers of his generation, but he also had the speed to hold the track record at both Chantilly and at York over the Ebor distance.”

Norton Grove Stud's Richard Lingwood added, “When he walked off the box I thought what a fine big horse he was. He is 16.2, dark bay with no white and looks a proper National Hunt type. One can see why he was such a good racehorse: he is so relaxed, and all he wanted to do was stick his head in his manger.”

Marmelo will stand for a fee £2,000, Oct. 1 terms.

Pearl Secret To Norton Grove Stud

Following the death of its flagship sire Pastoral Pursuits (GB) last week, Norton Grove Stud in North Yorkshire has secured Pearl Secret (GB) (Compton Place {GB}) to join its stallion roster.

Campaigned by Qatar Racing, Pearl Secret won listed races over five furlongs at two and four before taking the G2 Temple S. at Haydock at five. He was also third in the G1 King's Stand S. at four. The chestnut stood his first four seasons at Chapel Stud, and his first crop is three this year. He had five first-crop winners last year from 27 starters from a crop of 35 named foals.

Norton Grove Stud tweeted, “After the sudden and unexpected death of Pastoral Pursuits at the beginning of the covering season, we are now in the position to announce that Pearl Secret will be joining our stallion ranks. As a consistent five-furlong stakes winner and having won three [stakes] races and [been] Group 1-placed from three to five years, all over five furlongs and beating 60 group winners, including 16 Group 1 winners, we believe he is the perfect compliment to our existing lineup and will meet the needs of many of the local trainers.”
