G2SW Arizona Retired to Castlehyde Stud

Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier’s Arizona (Ire) (No Nay Never–Lady Ederle, by English Channel), winner of the G2 Coventry S. in only his third career start, has been retired from racing and will stand under the Coolmore banner at Castlehyde Stud for the 2021 season. A fee for Arizona will be announced at a later date.

“Arizona is a very good-looking and good-moving son of No Nay Never who really fills the eye,” said Castlehyde Manager Paddy Fleming. “He’s got a very current, fast pedigree too, so I think he has a lot of appeal.”

In his second start at two, the Stephen Sullivan-bred colt won a six-furlong maiden at the Curragh by eight lengths and was sent straight to Royal Ascot for Coventry, where he quickened well to triumph over a good field which included subsequent group winners Threat (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}, Golden Horde (Ire) (Lethal Force {Ire}) and Royal Lytham (Fr) (Gleneagles {Ire}).

Runner-up behind subsequent champion juvenile Pinatubo (Ire) (Shamardal) in the G1 Dewhurst S., he earned a Timeform rating of 119, behind only Pinatubo and subsequent G1 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko (Kitten’s Joy).

One of seven Group 1 performers from No Nay Never’s first two crops, Arizona is a full-brother to MGSW and GISP Nay Lady Nay. The pair are out of a half-sister to the dam of European Champion 2-Year-Old Dabirsim (Fr) (Hat Trick {Jpn}), who sired group winners Different League (Fr) and Coeur de Beaute (Fr) from his first crop.

Wichita Dies In Australia

Wichita (Ire) (No Nay Never), runner-up in this year’s G1 2000 Guineas and the winner of the G2 Park S. on Sept. 12, has been euthanized in Australia after suffering complications during recovery from a gallops injury. The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was preparing for the G2 Crystal Mile and G1 Cantala S.

A statement from Racing Victoria read, “The connections of the Aidan O’Brien-trained Wichita have advised Racing Victoria that the horse sustained a further injury to its right hind leg while rehabilitating at Macedon Lodge from recent surgery. Acting on the advice of stable veterinarians, the connections advise that Wichita was humanely euthanised on Friday October 23 as a result of the complications encountered in its recovery. RV extends its condolences to the owners of the horse, trainer Aidan O’Brien, his stable staff and all who cared for the horse and are greatly saddened by their loss.”

Wichita, a 140,000gns Tattersalls October yearling, also won the G3 Tattersalls S. as a 2-year-old and was third in this year’s G1 St James’s Palace S.

Speakeasy Score Gives Amanzi Yimpilo Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Berth

Forwardly placed throughout, eastern-based filly Amanzi Yimpilo rallied under Luis Saez to take Saturday's $100,000 Speakeasy Stakes at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., by a head, defeating seven males in the process while earning a ticket to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Nov. 6 at Keeneland.  Trained by Wesley Ward, Amanzi Yimpilo took blinkers off in what was her third start and got 5 1/2 furlongs on turf in 1:02.77.

A first-out maiden turf sprint winner June 10 at Gulfstream Park, Amanzi Yimpoli, who fetched $300,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, was most recently third in an ungraded stakes going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf at Saratoga on Aug. 19.

“She was pretty nervous behind the gate, we had a little trouble, but I knew she was ready,” said Saez, who was aboard for the first time today.  “I could feel the power.  She just broke very well and sat in a great spot which was the spot I was (hoping) to be in.  When we came down the stretch, she fought.  She was a fighter and we got there.  I had a feeling we would get it.”

Off as 5-2 second choice in a field of nine that included one other filly, Amanzi Yimpilo paid $7.20, $3.80 and $3.00.

“We worked her a half mile on the dirt and we went wide, we weren't really trying to set the track afire,” said Blake Heap, assistant to Ward regarding Amanzi Yimpilo's lone workout at Santa Anita on Sept. 19.  “We wanted to do something to get a feel of the situation here and get a little air.  It worked out well.  It's onto the Breeders' Cup we hope!”

Wyfire, in his first try on turf, ran a huge second under Flavien Prat, finishing a half length in front of Windy City Red.  Off at 7-2, Wyfire paid $4.20 and $3.40.

Ridden by Jose Valdivia, Jr., Windy City Red was off at 16-1 and paid $5.40 to show while outfinishing 2-1 favorite Commander Khai by a neck.

Fractions on the race were 21.89, 44.66 and 56.51.

The Speakeasy Stakes is a Breeders' Cup “Win & You're In” Challenge Race qualifier, with the winner earning a fees paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Nov. 6 at Keeneland.
