TAA Official Charity Partner of Horseplayers Championship

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) will be on-site to promote aftercare awareness at the NTRA National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) March 10-12 at Horseshoe Las Vegas., the group has announced. Horseplayers are invited to connect with TAA representatives, learn more about accredited Thoroughbred aftercare, donate to TAA to win tickets to the Florida Derby or for a tour of Old Friends, and take home racing memorabilia.

TAA will also be on site for the Last Chance First Chance NHC Qualifier to which NTRA donated a VIP opportunity through TAA's Off to the Races online auction of VIP race experiences. The winning bidder will compete for their spot to remain at Horseshoe Las Vegas and enter the NHC in the following days.

“The NTRA is proud to recognize the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance as an official charity of the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC),” said NTRA President and CEO Tom Rooney. “The competition and camaraderie among the participants, along with their universal love of the Thoroughbred, are a big part of what makes the NHC such a great event.”

“Thank you to NTRA for once again recognizing and supporting accredited Thoroughbred aftercare on the national stage of the NHC event,” said TAA Office Manager Catherine Flowers. “TAA is proud to be supported by the racing industry, which includes these talented horseplayers, and it is so exciting to celebrate horseplayers giving back to the Thoroughbreds that have given all of us so much.”

Of the eight #NHC2023 eligible racetracks, Aqueduct, Golden Gate Fields, Gulfstream, Laurel Park, Oaklawn Park, Santa Anita Park, and Tampa Bay Downs are supporters of the TAA.

Following NHC Disqualification, NTRA Issues Player Two-Year Suspension

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced Tuesday that the player disqualified from the 2022 National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) will be suspended from the NHC and NHC Tour for a period of two years. At the end of the two-year suspension, the player may request to the NTRA to be reinstated to the NHC Tour.

The suspension was issued by the NTRA following discussions and a recommendation by the NHC Players' Committee, a group of NHC players who act as a sounding board on NHC policy and rule matters. The suspension covers the 2022 and 2023 NHC Tour seasons and the 2023 and 2024 NHCs.

“Maintaining the integrity of the NHC is of the utmost importance,” said NTRA President and CEO Tom Rooney. “We look forward to making the 2022 NHC Tour and the 2023 NHC the best ever.”

According to a report in HorseRacingNation.com, the disqualified player was Jonathon Kinchen, the Fox Sports racing analyst and a tournament regular who won the NHC Tour title in 2015. Kinchen reportedly left Las Vegas to attend Saturday's Pegasus World Cup day races at Gulfstream Park in Florida and had his tournament bets made in Las Vegas by an associate.

Kinchen Suspended From NHC Tour For Two Years

Jonathon Kinchen, winner of the 2015 NHC Tour (National Horseplayers Championship) and widely recognized from duties at NYRA and FOX television, has been suspended from the NHC and NHC Tour for a period of two years, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced Tuesday.

Kinchen was disqualified from the NHC after it was learned that he was not in Las Vegas in person for the competition, as required by rule.

“Maintaining the integrity of the NHC is of the utmost importance,” said NTRA President and CEO Tom Rooney. “We look forward to making the 2022 NHC Tour and the 2023 NHC the best ever.”

NTRA Issues Statement On Player Disqualification At National Horseplayers Championship

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) issued the following statement on Monday after its first ever disqualification during the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) which took place this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev.

“The NTRA disqualified a player from the 2022 NHC for violating the official rules. One of the violated rules states, “All wagers must be placed personally, and in-person, by the Contest Player.” The disqualified player was not present at Bally's during the NHC tournament and his contest wagers were being submitted on-site by an intermediary without authorization. No authorization was given to the player to leave Bally's or the State; he violated both. The rules of the NHC are clearly outlined and all participants are required to sign them prior to the tournament.”
