Breeders’ Cup Presents The News Minute: A Busy Day For Classic Contenders

Nine of the 11 horses pre-entered for next Saturday's $6-million Breeders' Cup Classic turned in their final timed workouts on Saturday morning at Churchill Downs and Keeneland in Kentucky and Santa Anita Park in California. Belmont and Travers winner Tiz the Law worked at Keeneland for trainer Barclay Tagg, Kentucky Derby winner Authentic breezed at Santa Anita for Bob Baffert and Preakness winner Swiss Skydiver did her final preparations at Churchill Downs.

Trainer Kenny McPeek said later Swiss Skydiver would most likely be entered against fillies and mares in the Distaff rather than take on males in the Classic. One of her chief opponents in that race, Monomoy Girl, also worked over the Churchill Downs main track on Saturday morning.

The Europeans are starting to arrive and will be out of quarantine as early as Monday, with Aidan O'Brien's contingent arriving later Monday from Ireland.

Breeders’ Cup Presents The News Minute: Final Breezes Begin

With one week to go until Future Stars Friday kicks off the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships from Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., on Nov. 6-7, a number of leading contenders turned in their final serious preparatory work at different tracks across the country.

At Keeneland, Grade 1 Frizette winner Dayoutoftheoffice worked for trainer Tim Hamm. At Churchill Downs, G2 Pocahontas winner Girl Daddy worked for trainer Dale Romans. At Santa Anita, G1 Del Mar Debutante winner Princess Noor turned in her final breeze for trainer Bob Baffert. All unbeaten, they will battle it out in the Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 6.

Breeders’ Cup Presents The News Minute: A Camera For Every Contender

While the general public will not be able to attend the 2020 Breeders' Cup at Keeneland race course in Lexington, Ky., this Nov. 6-7, horse racing fans will have a unique opportunity to view this year's races like never before.

In addition to the NBCSN and NBC network coverage of the world championships, Breeders' Cup officials will be streaming a live multi-cast at breederscup.com that will feature up to 15 cameras for fans to take in all the action.

For the first time, a “Contenders Cam” will allow viewers to select which horse or horses they want to follow, from the time they arrive in the paddock to be saddled until they enter the starting gate.

There will also be up to two Jockey Cams for each race, providing a unique horseback view.

Breeders’ Cup Presents The News Minute: Horsemen’s Interest In World Championships Undeterred By Pandemic

Earlier this year there were concerns about how the coronavirus pandemic would affect the 37th running of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, specifically whether the interest level would be as high among horsemen, especially those from overseas.

Those concerns were cast aside today when Breeders' Cup unveiled the lists of pre-entered horses for the 14 championship races to be run at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., on Nov. 6-7. The 201 horses pre-entered represents the second highest number ever and the 38 international horses pre-entered is second only to the 41 pre-entered in 2018 when the Breeders' Cup was at Churchill Downs.
