$398 Payoff In Saturday’s All Graded Stakes Cross-Country Pick 5

Saturday's Cross-Country Pick 5 encompassing an all-graded stakes sequence from Belmont Park, Keeneland Race Course and Monmouth Park returned $397.75 for selecting all five winners for the 50-cent wager with a total pool of $126,982.

Almanaar started things off by becoming the first of two favorites to win in the Cross Country Pick 5, initiating the wager with a one-length victory in the Grade 3, $150,000 Monmouth Stakes for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles on the New Jersey-based track's turf in Race 8. Trained by Chad Brown, the English-bred Almanaar came from well off the pace, tracking in eighth position in the nine-horse field before finishing strong under jockey Joe Bravo to hold off Serve the King by a head in a final time of 1:49.22. Almanaar returned $5 on a $2 win bet.

Civil Union won the first Grade 1 of the sequence in Belmont's Race 8, handling a stretch-drive showdown by besting the Brown-trained My Sister Nat and Nay Lady Nay to win the $250,000 Flower Bowl for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up going 1 1/4 miles on the inner turf. A “Win and You're In” qualifier to the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf next month at Keeneland, the Flower Bowl saw Civil Union hit the wire in 2:01.28 under jockey Joel Rosario, paying $8.10. Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey won the Flower Bowl for the second time in the last four runnings, joining War Flag in 2017.

Keeneland got in the action when Mr Freeze topped Aurelius Maximus by a neck in the Grade 2, $200,000 Fayette for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles on the main track in Race 8. The Dale Romans trainee, off as the favorite, paid $5.20. Ridden by Hall of Famer Javier Castellano, Mr Freeze posted a final time of 1:50.71.

Brown trained his second winner of the sequence, saddling the French-bred Tamahere to a two-length victory in the Grade 2, $150,000 Sands Point for sophomore fillies in Belmont's Race 10. Making her United States debut, Tamahere overcome some initial reluctance approaching the gate before the race. Once the race started, she showed top form, surging home under jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. to win the one-mile turf test in a final time of 1:35.21. She paid $7 to win.

Closing out the Cross Country Pick 5 was the second Grade 1 of the contest, with Harvey's Lil Goil registering a three-quarter length win in the Grade 1, $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup in Keeneland's Race 9. Harvey's Lil Goil sat in second position as Sweet Melania led the seven-horse field of 3-year-old fillies before gaining command by the stretch and completing the 1 1/8 mile turf course in 1:48.72. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott and ridden by Martin Garcia, Harvey's Lil Goil, who ran third in the Grade 1 Alabama in August at Saratoga Race Course, paid $9.20.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on track, on ADW platforms, and at simulcast facilities across the country. Every week will feature a mandatory payout of the net pool.

America’s Day At The Races To Broadcast Columbus Weekend Stakes From Belmont Park

America's Day at the Races, produced by the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) in partnership with FOX Sports, will provide live coverage of a lucrative Columbus Day Weekend at Belmont Park beginning Saturday, Oct. 10 through Monday, Oct. 12.

The 3-day holiday weekend will feature seven graded events, including four Grade 1 Breeders' Cup “Win & You're In” challenge races on Saturday led by the $250,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup, a 1 ¼-mile test offering a berth in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Classic.

In addition to the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, Saturday's card is bolstered by the Grade 1, $250,000 Champagne at one-mile for 2-year-olds providing a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. A loaded card also includes the Grade 1, $250,000 Flower Bowl at 10-furlongs for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up with a berth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf on the line; the Grade 1, $250,000 Frizette, a one-turn mile for juvenile fillies offering a berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies; and the Grade 2, $150,000 Sands Point for sophomore fillies at one mile on the turf.

Sunday, Oct. 11 is headlined by the Grade 3, $100,000 Futurity for 2-year-olds headed six furlongs on the turf with the victor earning a “Win and You're In” entry to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. The day will also feature the Grade 3, $100,000 Matron for 2-year-old fillies going six furlongs on the turf.

Columbus Day Monday's card will feature nine races to close out the holiday weekend.

FOX Sports to Broadcast Arc

FOX Sports will present live coverage and analysis of Sunday’s G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the New York Racing Association announced Friday. Sunday’s broadcast will air on FS1 from 9:30-11 a.m. ET, with the Arc featuring 6-year-old mare Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) for a record third win in the race. Coverage will also include the G1 Prix de l’Opera Longines for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up at 1 1/4 miles on the turf. Both races are part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series, with the winner of the Arc earning a guaranteed spot in the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf, and Prix de l’Opera heroine stamping her ticket to the GI Breeders’ Cup F/M Turf. Post time for the Arc is 10:05 a.m. and the Prix de l’Opera 10:50 a.m.

All Grade 1 Cross Country Pick 5 Features Free Equibase Past Performances

A Cross Country Pick 5 that encompasses five Grade 1 contests across Belmont Park and Keeneland Race Course will highlight exciting action on Saturday in a wager hosted by the New York Racing Association, Inc.

Top-caliber racing will start at Belmont in Race 7 at 4:03 p.m. Eastern with the $250,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/2 miles on the Widener course. Grade 1-winning multimillionaires Channel Maker and Sadler's Joy will face one another for the 15th time, while 2-1 morning-line favorite Rockemperor will look to build on a last-out third-place effort to stablemate Digital Age in the Grade 1 Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic on September 5 at Churchill Downs. In his prior effort, he was second, beaten by a neck to stablemate Instilled Regard, in the Grade 1 Manhattan on July 4 at Belmont, earning a career-best 102 Beyer Speed Figure. New York-bred Cross Border, the winner of the Grade 2 Bowling Green on August 1 at Saratoga, also will contend in the seven-horse field.

Keeneland will host the first of its three races in the sequence with the $350,000 First Lady for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up going one mile on the turf in Race 8 at 4:51 p.m. Trainer Chad Brown trains two of the field's six entrants for a race that is a “Win and You're In” qualifier to the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf on November 7 at the same track, saddling 2019 champion grass mare Uni and Newspaperofrecord, winner of the 2018 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas will send out Crystal Lake, with the field also comprising Beau Recall, Dalika and Daddy Is a Legend.

Another Breeders' Cup qualifier will highlight the third leg back at Belmont, where a nine-horse field of sophomores will compete in the 71st running of the Grade 1, $250,000 Belmont Derby Invitational going 1 1/4 miles on the inner turf in Race 9 at 5:06 p.m. A spot in the Grade 1, $4 million Breeders' Cup Turf on November 7 will be on the line for a race that features the top-three finishers of the Saratoga Derby Invitational – Domestic Spending, Gufo and No Word – all returning for a rematch. The Brown-trained Domestic Spending, who outlasted the Christophe Clement-conditioned Gufo by a head in August, has three wins in four career starts. Other contenders include Mo Ready, South Bend, Pixelate, Venezuelan Hug, Moon Over Miami and Ajourneytofreedom.

Keeneland will conclude the wager with the final two legs, starting with the $400,000 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity for juveniles going 1 1/16 miles on the main track in Race 8 at 5:24 p.m. A spot in the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile will be on the line, with Godolphin homebred Essential Quality, a winner on Kentucky Derby Day last month at Churchill Downs, headlining a nine-horse field. King Fury, trained by two-time Breeders' Futurity winner Kenny McPeek, was a 2 ¾ length debut winner going 1 1/16 miles on September 3.

The finale will be the $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile for 3-year-olds and up in Race 10 at 5:57 p.m. Halladay, the winner of the Grade 1 Fourstardave this summer at Saratoga, will look for additional glory in a race that's an automatic qualifier to the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile on November 7, though Halladay earned a spot in the race with his last-out victory. Other contenders looking to punch a return ticket to Keeneland include Grade 1-winners Bowies Hero and Raging Bull, as well as Group 1-victors in Without Parole [Great Britain] and Ivar [Brazil].
