G2 July S. Hero Persian Force Retired For Stallion Duty

Group 2 winner Persian Force (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}–Vida Amorosa {Ire}, by Lope De Vega {Ire}), placed three times at the highest level, has been retired to stand at stud in 2023, Amo Racing's Tom Pennington confirmed to the TDN on Sunday morning. A stud farm and fee for the precocious juvenile will be announced in the very near future.

“Persian's done an incredible job, to be honest,” Amo Racing's Kia Joorabchian told Nick Luck during Luck On Sunday. “He's done everything that Mehmas has done. Arguably, according to Richard Hannon, who trained both, he's a better-looking version of his father. And he's got a better pedigree.

“He has started in March, running [in] everything, from almost every Group 1 there was, coming second in most of them. He's never had a bad run. He's followed the footsteps of his dad from start to finish. His father retired at the end of his 2-year-old career. [Mehmas] has had a fantastic career as a stallion. His father will stand today at €60,000. [We looked at that] and thought he could follow in the footsteps of his father [at stud].”

Bred by Tom Lacy, the March foal was sold for €75,000 from Ringfort Stud to Tally-Ho Stud during the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2020. He entered the Amo Racing fold after hammering for €225,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2021. Sent to the yard of Richard Hannon, he ran out a 4 3/4-length debut winner at Doncaster in March. Also a winner at Newbury two months later, he was second in the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot, but returned to winning ways with a 1 1/2-length score in the G2 July S. at Newmarket on July 7. Second in the G1 Phoenix S. at the Curragh in August, he filled that role again in the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville later that month. Third in the Sept. 24 G1 Middle Park S., Persian Force was fourth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in November and retires with a mark of 8-3-3-1 and $350,183 in earnings.

A full-brother to the G2 Richmond S. third Gubbass (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), Persian Force hails from the family of dual Group 3 winner Garrus (Ire), by Mehmas's sire Acclamation (GB), as well as G1 Phoenix S. and G1 National S. hero Danehil Dancer (Ire) (Danehill), who became a successful sire.

G1 Phoenix S. Hero Ebro River Will Stand At Haras de la Haie Neuve In 2023

Juvenile Group 1 winner Ebro River (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}–Soft Power {Ire}, by Balmont) will stand at Haras de la Haie Neuve in 2023, Jour de Galop reported on Saturday evening. The Al Shaqab Racing colourbearer's fee will be announced at a later date.

Bred by Tally-Ho Stud, the chestnut was sold for €75,000 during Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale to Charlie Gordon Watson on behalf of Al Shaqab. Trained by Hugo Palmer, Ebro River graduated at Doncaster at second asking in May of his 2-year-old year, and then won the Listed National S. at Sandown later that month. He scored the biggest win of his career in the Curragh's G1 Phoenix S., and was also third in the G1 National S. in his next start. Kept in training at three, the son of Soft Power won the Listed Queensferry S. His record stands at 15-4-0-1 and $294,567 in earnings. A half-brother to the stakes-placed Strong Power (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), the colt is from the same family as dual Group 1-winning sprinter and sire Slade Power (Ire) (Dutch Art {GB}).

Triple GISW Jack Christopher Retired to Ashford

'TDN Rising Star' and three-time Grade I winner Jack Christopher (Munnings–Rushin No Blushin, by Half Ours) has been retired from racing and will stand in 2023 alongside his sire at Coolmore's Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky. His introductory fee will be $45,000.

“We are delighted to have Jack Christopher now here at Ashford standing alongside his sire Munnings,” said Coolmore's Dermot Ryan. “He's a striking horse with great presence and a lovely temperament. Horses like him are what makes racing exciting to watch.”

Owned by the partnership of Jim Bakke, Gerald Isbister, Coolmore Stud, and Peter M. Brant, Jack Christopher debuted with an 8 3/4-length win at Saratoga at two and was immediately tabbed a 'Rising Star' off the performance. Sent next to the GI Champagne S. at Belmont, he scored by daylight again off 8-5 odds. Made the 9-5 morning-line favorite for last year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Del Mar before being scratched the day prior to the race, Jack Christopher underwent a procedure and returned this spring on Derby Day with a comeback victory in the GII Pat Day Mile S. A blowout 10-length score in the GI Woody Stephens S. followed before his lone career loss–a third to Cyberknife (Gun Runner) in the GI Haskell S. in his first time stretching out–and finally a return to the winner's circle in his last start, the GI H. Allen Jerkens Memorial S. Jack Christopher retires with a record of 6-5-0-1 and earnings of $1,216,400. He was unbeaten around one turn.

“Jack Christopher was an exceptional talent,” said trainer Chad Brown. “I've never had a dirt horse with such brilliance. He never disappointed us in a workout or a race and was just a pleasure to train.”

From the family of Running Stag (Cozzene)–who was a MGSW in the U.S. and a GSW in France, in addition to being GISP in the U.S. and G1SP in Hong Kong–Jack Christopher is out of a half-sister to MGISW and sire Street Boss (Street Cry {Ire}).

Multiple Group 1 Winner Mishriff Will Stand for 20k Under Sumbe Banner

Globetrotting multiple Group 1 winner Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) will stand for €20,000 under Nurlan Bizakov's Sumbe banner at Haras de Montfort et Preaux next year.

The Classic winner, who won the G1 Prix du Jockey Club, G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and G1 International S. in France, Dubai and England, respectively, ran a good fourth in his career finale, the Nov. 5 GI Breeders' Cup Turf. His record stands at seven wins and seven placings from 21 starts with earnings of $16,034,853.

Mishriff will be well-supported by his owner-breeder Prince Faisal, trainers John and Thady Gosden and racing manager Ted Voute. The 2021 Saudi Cup hero's third dam is G1 Prix de Diane heroine Rafha (GB) (Kris {GB}), herself the dam of standout sires Invincible Spirit (Ire) and Kodiac (GB).

Meanwhile, Group 1 winner Golden Horde (Ire) will stand his third season at an unchanged fee of €8,000. De Treville (GB), an Oasis Dream (GB) half-brother to Too Darn Hot (GB), will command €5,000, double his 2022 fee. The rise comes after the positive results for his progeny, and the 10-year-old is responsible for one stakes winner and two black-type horses from limited opportunities. Rounding out the quartet is Recorder (GB) at €3,000. The sire of a pair of stakes winners, he was €4,000 in 2022.
