Siskin to Stand at Shadai Stallion Station in 2021

Classic winner Siskin (First Defence-Bird Flown {GB}, by Oasis Dream {GB}) will stand for ¥3,500,000 at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan, the stud announced on Tuesday. It was earlier revealed the Juddmonte homebred’s breeding rights had been sold to a group of breeders in June.

Trained by Ger Lyons, Siskin won his first five starts, breaking his maiden at Naas in May of his 2-year-old year and quickly adding a listed race later that month, before first tasting group success in the G2 Railway S. that June. He saluted in the G1 Phoenix S. two months later and was put away for the winter. The son of the winning Bird Flown returned at three to salute in the June 12 G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and was also third in the G1 Sussex S. in July. Fourth in the G1 Prix du Moulin later that summer, he was unplaced in the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile and his record stands at 8-5-0-1 and $566,021 in earnings.

Siskin’s dam is a half-sister to SW & GSP Barsanti (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}) and SW & MGISP Lockdown (First Defence), as well as the dam of U.S. Champion Older Mare Close Hatches (First Defence), herself the dam of MGSW and GI Belmont S. runner-up Tacitus (Tapit). His third dam won the G3 Ballyogan S. and foaled European Champion 2-Year-Old Xaar (GB) (Zafonic) among others notable runners.

Gutaifan on the Move to Haras des Faunes

MGSW & G1SP Gutaifan (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) will stand at Alain Chopard’s Haras des Faunes in 2021, France-Sire reported. Formerly at Yeomanstown Stud in Ireland, the grey’s oldest foals are 3-year-olds. He was purchased by Chopard and will stand for €3,500.

“He’s a horse that’s proven he can get 2-year-old winners,” said Chopard to France-Sire. He already has a lot of them. I was looking for a stallion of this type, and I was offered Gutaifan. He made a big impact this year with Fev Rover, who still beat Plainchant, one of our best 2-year-olds from France.”

In 2020, Gutaifan celebrated his first group winner with second-crop filly Fev Rover (Ire) in the G2 Prix du Calvados. He also has listed winners Sardinia Sunset (Ire) and Sopran Poseidone (Ire).

MGSW and Classic Placed Shaman to Yeomanstown Stud

MGSW and Classic-placed Shaman (Ire) (Shamardal-Only Green {Ire} by Green Desert) will stand at Yeomanstown Stud in 2021. The Wertheimer et Frere homebred’s fee will be announced at a later date.

“He is a great looking son of the mighty Shamardal from one of the best pedigree’s around, add to that his impressive race record Shaman is a huge addition to us and should prove popular to breeders from both Ireland and abroad,” said Yeomanstown’s David O’Callaghan. “We are delighted to have Wertheimer Et Frère retain a share in Shaman and look forward to their support.”

Trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, the debut winner was third in the G3 Prix des Chenes as a juvenile, before winning the Listed Prix Omnium II in his first start at three. Successful in the G3 Prix la Force, the chestnut ran second in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains. Later that term he was also second in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and ended his sophomore year with a third in the G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein. At four the son of French MSW & GSP Only Green added the G2 Prix d’Harcourt to his win column and was also third in the G1 Prix Ganay. His record stands at 16-5-3-3 and $687,788 in earnings.

Shaman is a half-brother to French SW Green Sweet (Smart Strike), as well as the dam of Group 3 placed My Kurkum (GB) (Dariyan {Fr}). His dam is a half-sister to European highweight and MG1SW Occupandiste (Ire) (Kaldoun {Fr}), herself responsible for MGISW Mondialiste (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), GSW & MG1SP Impressionnante (GB) (Danehill) and the latter’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club-winning son and young sire Intello (Ger) (Galileo {Ire}). This is the extended family of Irish highweight and Classic winner Mehthaaf (Nureyev), as well as European highweights and Group 1 winners Ribchester (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) and G1 July Cup hero Elnadim (Danzig). Shaman’s fourth dam is the high class blue hen Fall Aspen (Pretense).

G1SW Wooded Retired to Haras de Bouquetot

Group 1 winner Wooded (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}-Frida La Blonde {Fr}, by Elusive City) has been retired and will stand at Haras de Bouquetot in France next year. A fee for the winner of the 2020 G1 Prix de l’Abbaye will be announced later.

“Wooded stood out from the day he arrived for his good looks and ability and he was very sound, never missing a day’s work,” said trainer Francis-Henri Graffard. “In the G3 Prix Texanita he announced himself as a potential superstar and we were confident he would go close in the Commonwealth Cup. The difficulties of travelling this year made it impossible for him to run. As a racehorse he had so many qualities, class, courage and speed and he fully deserved his Group 1 win this year.”

A winner and placed in both the G3 Prix la Rochette and G3 Prix Thomas Bryon as a juvenile in the Al Shaqab colours, the bay did his best running at three. Successful in the G3 Prix Texanita, he was second in the G3 Prix du Petit Couvert three starts later in September prior to his Group 1 win facing elders on Arc Day. The Gestut Zur Kuste-bred €90,000 Arqana October yearling retires with a mark of 9-3-3-1 and $250,081 in earnings.

“Wooded has been a very special racehorse to us at Al Shaqab, winning such a prestigious sprint race as the Prix de l’Abbaye on Arc day, at 3-years-old and against much more experienced horses,” said Al Shaqab General Manager Khalifa Al Attiya. “He will now be starting a new exciting career at Haras de Bouquetot, and we feel confident that such a standout sprinter who performed at the highest level with such consistency at 2- and 3-years’-old will be very well received by the breeders.”

Out of a full-sister to SW & MGSP Fred Lalloupet (GB) (Elusive City) and a half-sister to SW & GSP Mon Pote Le Gitan (Thunder Gulch), Wooded is a full-brother to G3 Sovereign S. bridesmaid Beat Le Bon (Fr). His second dam, Firm Friend (Ire) (Affirmed), won at the listed level in France, and was also second in the G2 Italian 1000 Guineas and third in a further two French Group 3s.

Added Haras de Bouquetot Stud Manager Benoit Jeffroy, “We’re delighted to welcome a Group 1-winning son of Wootton Bassett to join the roster at Haras de Bouquetot for 2021. An athletic mover of 1m67 (16.2 hh), Wooded has outstanding looks, is a very balanced and correct horse with great depth. He’s always shown plenty of speed and we are confident he’ll be an attractive sort to the European market.”
