Godolphin Strikes For 525k New Bay Colt At Tattersalls

The only juvenile by New Bay (GB) in the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, lot 26, a grey colt already named Anno Domini (GB), brought 525,000gns from Anthony Stroud on behalf of Godolphin during the first session at Park Paddocks on Tuesday. A half-brother to listed winners Pythagoras (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) and Blue Gardenia (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}), the colt is out of the winning Galileo (Ire) mare Alegra (GB) and he was consigned by Greenhills Farm. Greenhills had snapped up the March foal for 125,000gns in the same ring during Book 1 of the October Sale last autumn. He was bred by the Executors of the late Sir Robert Ogden.

Pair Of Kodiac Colts Anchor ThoroughBid Online Yearling Sale

A pair of colts by Kodiac (GB) and 34 other yearlings will go under the hammer at the ThoroughBid Online Yearling Sale on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Bidding for the first ever online-only yearling sale by a UK auction house will begin at 9 a.m. and will last approximately three hours. The catalogue is available here.

Yearlings by sires like New Bay (GB), Gleneagles (Ire), Farhh (GB), and Highland Reel (Ire) will also feature among the consigned horses. Each lot is sold with the opportunity to win the £5,000 Every 1's A Winner Bonus, to qualify for which the horses sold must win on debut aged two or three in a Flat race in any IFHA territory.

CEO of ThoroughBid, James Richardson, said, “It's a real pleasure to be the first UK-based auction house to host an online-only yearling sale. The reception this sale has had from established figures in the industry, like David and Mick Easterby, has been positive and we're delighted with the catalogue, which features some very nice pages.

“The fact that the catalogue has a host of well-proven, quality stallions represented and plenty of black-type running through the pedigrees is testament to the appetite for online sales. The importance of horse welfare as well as the ease and economy of selling online for our consignors is clear.

“Given there are no barriers to overseas bidders, and the offer of a £5,000 bonus to any debut winners in IFHA countries, we're expecting to see interest from all corners of the globe.”

Saffron Beach’s Brother Debuts at Yarmouth

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Monday's Observations features a full brother to Saffron Beach (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) first out at Yarmouth.

13.55 Yarmouth, Novice, £9,950, 2yo, 7f 3yT
GRANGER BAY (IRE) (New Bay {GB}) makes his debut for Jane Chapple-Hyam, who guided his full-sister Saffron Beach (Ire) through a stellar career which included successes in the G1 Sun Chariot S., G1 Prix Rothschild and G2 Duke of Cambridge S. Bought for €450,000 at Goffs Orby, Fiona Carmichael and Ballylinch Stud's newcomer meets the Gosdens' unraced Dubawi Time (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum's half-brother to the stable's high-class five-times group 2 winner Enbihaar (Ire) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}).

HOW THEY FARED
14.33 ParisLongchamp, Mdn, €50,000, unraced 2yo, c/g, 9fT
Al Asayl France's homebred newcomer Map Of Stars (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), a Francis-Henri Graffard-trained son of G1 Prix Vermeille heroine Bateel (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), was out of his comfort zone throughout, but found plenty under pressure in the straight to score by an ultimately snug one-length margin.

Easy For New Bay’s Alcantor In The Thomas Bryon

Up to a mile for the first time in Friday's G3 Prix Thomas Bryon Jockey Club de Turquie at Saint-Cloud, Baron Edouard De Rothschild's TDN Rising Star Alcantor (Fr) (New Bay {GB}) made light work of the test to put himself to the forefront of the year's home-trained juveniles.

Successful here and at Chantilly either side of a third to Havana Cigar (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) over a six-furlong trip that was too sharp at Chantilly in July, the Andre Fabre trainee was always in his comfort zone tagging on to the back of the field with Mickael Barzalona content to wait.

Allowing White Birch Farm's fellow TDN Rising Star Havana Cigar first run in the straight, the €180,000 Arqana December Foal purchase was finally unleashed wide of the remainder to take control a furlong out en route to a comfortable 2 1/2-length success. The Aga Khan's unexposed Saganti (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}) got up for second, a short neck ahead of Havana Cigar who appeared to tire late.

“His last race was the perfect education to teach him to relax after he had done too much in front on his second start,” Edouard De Rothschild said. “We also made the right decision not to run him in the Prix des Chenes at Longchamp on a day when the temperature reached new heights. He is certainly a very good horse with a lot of talent and it would be nice for his future career at stud to try to win a Group 1 this year, so the Criterium International is a possibility. We will first see how he comes out of this race and then decide then if we run him again this season or wait for 2024.”

Pedigree Notes

Alcantor's dam Bianca De Medici (GB) (Medicean {GB}), a half to the stakes-winning Hungarian champion Thunder Teddington (GB) (Halling), is also responsible for the G2 Union-Rennen winner Boscaccio (Ger) (Mount Nelson {GB}). She is a granddaughter of the Haras du Quesnay broodmare of note Trevillari (Riverman), a full-sister to the G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Treble who produced the GI Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile-placed Tsigane (Fr) (Anabaa) and the dam of the brilliant dual G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}).

Also connected to last year's G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup winner Francesco Guardi (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) and the multiple champion Triptych, Bianca De Medici's yearling filly by Romanised (Ire) was a €170,000 purchase by Haras de Meautry at last month's Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale. She also has a filly foal by Waldgeist (GB).
