‘TDN Rising Star’ Nash Wins Easily In Hot Springs S.

Nash, named a 'TDN Rising Star' after a 10 1/4-length romp in a 1 1/16-mile Churchill Downs maiden special weight Nov. 12, resumed winning ways after three straight placings at Fair Grounds this season. Nash was second behind Track Phantom (Quality Road) in the GIII Lecomte Jan. 20, then second again in a live optional claimer over a sloppy surface at Fair Grounds Feb. 17. Jockey Florent Geroux settled the even-money favorite four-wide behind Frost Free's pace set in fractions of :23.15, :47.64 and 1:12.56. Remaining four wide throughout, he swept past three of his six rivals entering the stretch and drew off to a comfortable win. Nash is out of MGSW Sara Louise, who defeated future champion Rachel Alexandra in the GII Pocahontas S. as a 2-year-old. Sara Louise is also the dam of Mrs. Hudson (Street Cry {Ire}), dam of SW Airosa (Uncle Mo) and Coronation Street (Street Cry {Ire}), dam of GSW Kalik (Collected). She has an unnamed 2-year-old Street Sense colt and was bred to Nyquist for this season.

Vino Rosso’s Tuscan Sky Stays Perfect, Defeats ‘Rising Star’ Nash

3rd-Fair Grounds, $59,150, Alw (NW1X)/Opt. Clm ($100,000), 2-17, 3yo, 1 1/16m, 1:43.74, sy, 2 lengths.
TUSCAN SKY (c, 3, Vino Rosso–South Andros {SW, $207,125}, by Sky Mesa) facing a field scratched down to just two other runners, backed up a big figure in his Aqueduct debut, also over a muddy surface, Jan. 13 with a defeat here of 'TDN Rising Star' and GIII Lecomte S. runner up Nash (Medaglia d'Oro). Letting that runner go up to set an uncontested lead in what wound up a two-horse race, Tuscan Sky stalked from second, came with his bid into the far turn and engaged that rival in a duel from the top of the lane. With Hawks Creek (Exaggerator) far back in third, the top pair battled it out with Tuscan Sky turning back Nash inside the sixteenth marker to pick up the two-length victory and stay perfect. The half-brother to Private Creed (Jimmy Creed), GSW & GISP, $1,329,166, Tuscan Sky has a 2-year-old Complexity half-brother while his dam produced a full-brother to Private Creed last year before visiting Jackie's Warrior for 2024. Track Phantom Banks Derby Points In Gun Runner S.

Track Phantom (Quality Road) had 10 points deposited into his Road to the Kentucky Derby account by winning Saturday's featured Gun Runner S. at Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

After a pair of good efforts to try and break his maiden in October at Churchill Downs, the bay got his picture taken with a front-running score by 4 3/4 lengths under the Twin Spires Nov. 25.

As a 9-2 shot here, the colt came out firing from his outside post and dueled into the first turn with GISP Next Level (Vino Rosso). With the battle for the lead continuing up the backstretch, Track Phantom finally got the best of his rival before the far turn, clearly had more to give at the top of the lane and outlasted a late-effort by Snead (Nyquist), as 'TDN Rising Star' Nash (Medaglia d'Oro) finished third.

“It's impressive that both of his [Track Phantom] two turn races have been victories, and it was a good field today,” said trainer Steve Asmussen. “I actually thought they went too fast in the middle, you know, 46 4/5 here in a two-turn race, you don't see horses see it out very often. He's obviously a very good horse who has some room to physically develop and we have him right where want to be at this stage of his career.”

Out of an extended female family which includes MGSW Prayer for Relief (Jump Start), the winner is his dam's second offspring to make the races after O'Conner Sunset (Curlin). An $825,000 purchase by Breeze Easy at the '18 Fasig-Tipton Fall Mixed Sale, Miss Sunset is also responsible for yearling colt Crystal Pearl (Curlin), who went for $1.1 million during Keeneland September to Lauren Carlisle. Track Phantom's dam also foaled a colt by Quality Road Mar. 3 and was bred to Flightline for next year.

Godolphin’s Nash Powers to TDN Rising Stardom at Churchill

While there may have been a few unanswered questions heading into Sunday's seventh race at Churchill Downs, there seemed to be none afterward. Installed the second betting choice behind the 7-5 choice, GISP Be You (Curlin), Nash (Medaglia d'Oro) completely dismantled his competition with seemingly little effort, cruising home an eye-catching 10 1/4-length winner while stamping himself a TDN Rising Star in the process.

Sent screaming to the front in the blink of an eye, the 9-5 chance cut out an opening quarter in :23.83 and a half in :47.93. Still moving powerfully through the quarter pole, the Godolphin homebred was cut loose in the stretch, and flew down the lane in complete command, winning by a gaudy margin while well in hand under Florent Geroux. Longshot Justifreak (Justify) was second, while Resilience (Into Mischief) rounded out the trifecta. The favorite came home fifth.

Sent off the 8-5 choice in his career debut at Keeneland Oct. 7, Nash came home fifth behind 5-1 chance Booth (Mitole) in the six-furlong event. He had been working steadily over this surface, including a pair of :49 flat moves Oct. 28 (40/95) and Nov. 4 (41/96).

Out of three-time graded winner Sara Louise, the winner is a half to Sara Street (Street Sense), GSP, $216,100. Sara Louise is also responsible for Mrs. Hudson (Street Cry {Ire}), dam of SW Airosa (Uncle Mo) and Coronation Street (Street Cry), dam of GSW Kalik (Collected). Subsequent to Sunday's Rising Star, the mare produced a colt by Street Sense in 2022 and was bred back to Nyquist this season.
