Mutasaabeq Set to Begin Stud Career at Pleasant Acres

Graded stakes winner Mutasaabeq (Into Mischief–Downside Scenario, by Scat Daddy) has arrived at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, Florida where he will stand his first season at stud for a fee of $6,500.

Tabbed a 'TDN Rising Star' following his debut win at Saratoga in 2020, Mutasaabeq was third in the GI Runhappy Hopeful S. in his second career outing before winning the GII Bourbon S. over the turf at Keeneland for Shadwell Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher. He added a win in the Mucho Macho Man S. in his lone start at three.

“Mutassabeq is a perfect fit for Florida and for Florida breeders. Not only does he have an impressive pedigree on his sire and dam lines, he was also a talented racehorse with a tremendous turn of foot,” said Pleasant Acres director of stallion services Christine Jones. “We are proud to have the only first year Into Mischief sire in Florida for 2023.”

Dialed In Anchors Darby Dan Stallion Roster for 2023

Dialed In, whose half-dozen stakes winners this season include GI Awesome Again S. victor Defunded, tops a list of 14 stallions that will stand in 2023 at Darby Dan Farm. The 14-year-old son of Mineshaft will command a fee of $15,000, unchanged from 2022.

The champion freshman sire of 2016 and reliably among the top sires, Dialed In has also been represented by stakes winners Mr. Wireless, Erase and Gambling Girl as well as Grade I-placed Get Her Number. Dialed In has sired one Grade I winner in each of the last three years: Get Her Number in 2020, GI Arkansas Derby winner Super Stock in 2021 and Defunded this term.

The nursery's other five-figure stallions are Higher Power (Medaglia d'Oro) and Modernist (Uncle Mo). Tapiture (Tapit), the leading fourth-crop sire by winners, will stand for $7,500.

The newest addition to the stallion barn at Darby Dan is 'TDN Rising Star' Mutasaabeq (Into Mischief). An impressive debut winner sprinting over the Saratoga main track, the son of Downside Scenario (Scat Daddy) was highly impressive in annexing Keeneland's GII Bourbon S. in his turf debut two starts later. He became a stakes winner on dirt in the 2021 Mucho Macho Man S. and is set to cover mares for the first time at a fee of $7,500.

“We are excited to announce the Darby Dan stud fees for the upcoming breeding season,” said Stuart Fitzgibbon, the newly named stallion director at Darby Dan. “Our goal is to provide breeders with a good value roster of stallions representing commercial and successful sire lines. We are delighted with the initial response to Mutasaabeq new for 2023. By Into Mischief out of a Scat Daddy mare, he has all the commercial attributes for the market. Grade 1-producing sire Dialed In continues to fly the flag for Darby Dan, and our younger stallions like Flameaway, Modernist, and Higher Power have been exceptionally well-received and should ensure memorable moments for the farm going forward.”

Darby Dan will once again be offering various incentive programs in 2023 to provide value to breeders, including Profit Protection, Share the Upside, Black-Type Bonanza, and Goldmine 20/20 Match Program.

Mutasaabeq to Stand at Darby Dan Farm

Mutasaabeq (Into Mischief–Downside Scenario, by Scat Daddy), a Grade II-winning juvenile, has been retired and will take up stud duty for the 2023 breeding season at Darby Dan Farm. The deal was brokered by The Stallion Company and his fee will be $7,500 S&N.

“Hailing from a sire line with a lot of upside, Mutasaabeq is a fast and precocious son of Into Mischief,” said Ryan Norton, Darby Dan Farm's stallion director. “He is an outstanding individual with all the ingredients to be a top sire, and we're excited about the opportunity to offer him to breeders in the upcoming breeding season.”

A $425,000 weanling purchase by Shadwell Stable at the 2018 Keeneland November Sale, Mutasaabeq followed a 'TDN Rising Star' performance on debut at Saratoga with a third-place finish in the GI Runhappy Hopeful S. Switched to grass, he posted a visually impressive come-from-behind victory in Keeneland's GII Bourbon S. Mutasaabeq's resume also includes a win in Gulfstream's Mucho Macho Man S. at three. All told, Mutasaabeq hit the board in four of six lifetime starts and earned $259,670.

By record-setting sire Into Mischief and bred in Kentucky by BlackRidge Stables LLC, Mutasaabeq is produced from the winning Scat Daddy mare Downside Scenario. This is also the family of this year's GI Florida Derby winner White Abarrio (Race Day) and graded stakes winner Cool Cowboy (Kodiak Kowboy).

Pegasus World Cup Turf Runner-Up Largent Could Surface In Tropical Turf

Grade 2 winners Largent, unraced since a runner-up finish in the 2021 Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1), and stablemate Mutasaabeq, who captured the 2021 Mucho Macho Man, head a list of 14 horses nominated to the $100,000 Tropical Turf (G3) for 4-year-olds and up going one mile Jan. 8 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

Twin Creeks Racing Stables and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners' Largent owns four wins and two seconds in six career tries over the Gulfstream turf, including a victory in the 2020 Fort Lauderdale (G2). The multiple stakes winner was beaten a neck in last winter's Pegasus Turf by Colonel Liam, also trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, and shows six works at Palm Beach Downs since late November.

Shadwell Stable's Mutasaabeq, another Pletcher trainee, went to the sidelines after capturing the one-mile Mucho Macho Man on dirt last January at Gulfstream. The Into Mischief colt has raced twice previously on the grass, including a victory in the October 2020 Bourbon (G2) going 1 1/16 miles at Keeneland.

Mutasaabeq worked five furlongs in 1:00.23 Sunday at Palm Beach Downs, the fastest of four horses, in his eighth timed breeze since mid-November.

Another horse nominated off a long layoff is Paradise Farms Corp.'s Bemma's Boy, a 6-year-old Into Mischief gelding that has not raced since his neck victory over Mike Maker-trained stablemate Zulu Alpha, winner of the 2020 Pegasus Turf, in the March 2020 Pan American (G2) at Gulfstream. Bemma's Boy returned to the work tab last September at Ellis Park and has breezed steadily since, his last five coming at Gulfstream.

Maker also nominated Three Diamonds Farm's Field Pass, last out winner of the 1 1/16-mile Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) Nov. 27 at Del Mar. The 4-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid also has four Grade 3 victories to his credit including the Baltimore-Washington International Turf Cup at historic Pimlico Race Course last June, and won the 2020 Dania Beach in his only previous try over the Gulfstream turf.

Also prominent among nominees are 2019 Virginia Derby (G3) winner English Bee, 2020 Fred Hooper (G3) winner Phat Man, and stakes winners Belgrano, Flying Scotsman and Value Proposition.
