Minnesota Ready Tops Lothenbach Dispersal on Fasig-Tipton Digital

The Lothenbach dispersal of Horses of Racing Age on Fasig-Tipton Digital, run Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, closed with 66 horses selling for $4,840,000 with MSP Minnesota Ready (More Than Ready) leading all lots at a final price of $380,000, changing hands to Richard Colton Jr..

The first in the digital ring, Minnesota Ready was most recently seen Jan. 20 in the Duncan F. Kenner S. at the Fair Grounds, where he again ran third in a blanket finish with SW Sosua Summer (Summer Front) and MSW & MGSP Just Might (Justin Phillip) and wrapping his 2023 season before that Dec. 23 in the Richard R. Scherer Memorial S. behind those familiar foes.

The four others who went beyond the $300,000 mark include Dazzlin Dictator (American Pharoah), a two-time winner at Turfway Park, who went to Rodolphe Brisset, agent for Ann Harrison; Tickle Me Unclemo (Uncle Mo), a $350,000 KEESEP yearling, went to Robert Salome for $320,000; and Practically Dark (Practical Joke), recently second in a maiden special at the Fair Grounds, sold to C2 Racing Stable for $310,000.

Most notable of that group is GSW & GISP Happy American (Runhappy), who went as a racing prospect and sold to trainer Neil Pessin for $340,000. A frequent face in the graded ranks across the country, he won the GIII Louisiana S. in 2023 and ran third that summer in the GIII Blame and GI Stephen Foster S.. After uninspiring finishes in the a pair of graded efforts in Kentucky, he returned to the Big Easy and hit the board in the Tenacious S. to cap his season. He'd made his 2024 bow in the GIII Louisiana S. Jan. 20, finishing third in his title defense attempt.

In addition to the $4.84-million aggregate, the average was $73,333 while the median was $41,000 with 16 horses selling for $100,000 or more with Taylor Made Sales consigning. A total of 741 potential buyers from 46 states and seven countries registered to bid, placing a total of 3,047, and averaging 46 bids per offering.

“All I can say is, 'Wow,'” said Leif Aaron, Fasig-Tipton's Director of Digital Sales. “We have to thank the estate of Mr. Lothenbach for trusting us with this dispersal of racing stock. This is exactly what the digital platform was built for: horses and buyers from all over the country. These are phenomenal results.”

The dispersal of Lothenbach's breeding stock and yearlings will come during the Kentucky Winter Mix sale Feb. 5 to Feb. 6 with the catalogue available online.

Jumping from the middle of the field and carrying an expensive $650,000 KEESEP tag in addition to Irad Ortiz Jr. is CHP Racing's SPENDALOT (More Than Ready). The full-sister to MGSW & GISP Consumer Spending comes into this race with a consistent work tab for conditioner Chad Brown. Beneath her second dam Shaconage (El Prado {Ire}) is the dam of several Chilean Group and stakes runners including GSW & G1SP Jacare (Chi) (Lookin At Lucky) as well as GSP La Jardinera (Chi) (Verrazano).

To her far outside is the pair of homebreds Scandalous (Mastery) and Spinning Class (Twirling Candy). The former is a Pletcher trainee who will carry the colors of co-breeder and co-owners Bass Stables. Cheyenne Stables bought into the filly out of a half-sister to MSW Pickapocket (Mecke); GSW & GISP Wild At Heart (Indian Charlie) and that one's full-sister GSP Visavis. Spinning Class hails from the venerable Janney operation, owned by Stuart S. Janney III, and is the first to the races for GSW My Impression (Sky Mesa), herself a half-sister to the dam of GSW Scarlett Sky (Sky Mesa). Making her career-first start for owner Godolphin is HOPE MISSION (Medaglia d'Oro), the flagbearer to the races for GSW & GISP Arabian Hope (Distorted Humor), who is herself a half-sister to $3.65m FTFMAR grad MGSW Cezanne (Curlin) and MSP Counterforce (Smart Strike). This is the female family of GISW Streaming (Smart Strike); champion 3-year-old filly MGISW Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy); MGSW & GISP Tyson (Tapit); and MGISW Arcangelo (Arrogate). TJCIS PPs

Saturday Insights: Daughter Of Arrogate Debuts Over BAQ Turf

5th-BAQ, $90K, Msw, 2yo, f, 1 1/16mT, 2:44 p.m. ET
On Friday at the Belmont at the Big A meet, trainer Cherie DeVaux and co-owners Martin Schwartz and David Ingordo celebrated Reagan's Flame (Flameaway) coming home a winner over the turf in her first start.

Now Schwartz and DeVaux send PURLOIN (Arrogate) to the post looking for a similar outcome. A $200,000 Keeneland September purchase by Midnight Bloodstock, the gray filly went for $400,000 during the OBS April Sale with DeVaux signing the ticket after she went 10 2/5 during the under-tack show.

Other runners making their debut here include Cheyenne Stable homebred Style Points (Oscar Performance), who is out of GII New York S. heroine Mystical Star (Ghostzapper). The Christophe Clement trainee is also up against Public Assembly (More Than Ready), a $300,000 Keeneland September buy for Peter Brant and trainer Chad Brown. The chestnut filly's dam is a full-sister to two-time GIII Fred W. Hooper H. victor Csaba (Kitten's Joy).

Finally, Don Alberto homebred Lucevan La Stelle (Noble Mission {GB}), whose second dam is a full-sister to G1 Irish 2000 Guineas hero Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo), goes out for Tom Albertrani. TJCIS PPS

Sunday’s Racing Insights: Pair Of Well-Bred Colts Battle On Debut At Churchill On Sunday

7th-CD, $120K, Msw, 2yo, 1m, 3:50 p.m.
At Churchill Downs Sunday, drawn to the extreme outside is BLOWN COVER (Gun Runner) who will make his first start for an ownership group which includes Spendthrift Farm and Gandharvi Racing. A $650,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase, the dark bay colt, bred by Machmer Hall and trained by Brad Cox, is the second offspring to make the races out of a dam who is a half-sister to GII Oaklawn H. hero Cyber Secret (Broken Vow).

Also debuting here is Track Phantom (Quality Road), another alum from that same sale who went for $500,000 to L and N Racing, Clark Brewster, and Jerry Caroom, with breeder Breeze Easy retaining a share. Out of GII Lexus Raven Run S. heroine Miss Sunset (Into Mischief), the Steve Asmussen trainee's yearling half-sister by Curlin just sold at Keeneland September for $1.1 million to Lauren Carlisle. Another Sunday Churchill maiden race under the same conditions includes Catching Freedom (Constitution). The $575,000 Keeneland September purchase bred by WinStar Farm, bought by Albaugh Family Stables, and trained by Brad Cox is out of GISP Catch My Drift (Pioneerof the Nile), who also produced SP Strava (Into Mischief) and GIII Peter Pan S. runner-up Bishops Bay (Uncle Mo).

Making the post just to his outside, we find Tis Charming (Omaha Beach). The dark bay colt trained by Ken McPeek who sold for $250,000 during Keeneland September is out of Derby Eve (Tiznow), who is a full-sister to GI Travers S. victor Colonel John. TJCIS PPS

Finally, over at rain-soaked Aqueduct, Spendalot (More Than Ready) will debut for CHP Racing. The Chad Brown trainee initially went for $240,000 to Cavalier Bloodstock during Keeneland November before selling to agent Mike Ryan for $650,000 in the same ring as a yearling. The gray filly is a full-sister to GII Wonder Again S. winner Consumer Spending. TJCIS PPS
