Nysos to Miss One Month of Training After `Minor’ Setback

Nysos (Nyquist), the top-ranked horse in the NTRA's poll of top three-year-olds, will miss one month of training after a `minor' setback, said the colt's trainer, Bob Baffert, by text Tuesday afternoon.

“(Nysos) will be out of training,” Baffert texted. “Tack-walking for 30 days. No plans.” Asked exactly what the setback was, Baffert replied, “minor.”

Nysos is a perfect three-for-three, breaking his maiden at Santa Anita in October, winning the GIII Bob Hope S. in November, and then winning the GIII Robert B. Lewis S. in February. HIs combined margin of victory is 26 3/4 lengths.

The colt has not worked since Feb. 25, raising questions about his condition.

Derby Hero Desert Crown’s King George Bid Up In The Air After Setback

Impressive G1 Cazoo Derby hero Desert Crown (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) has suffered a “little niggle” according to trainer Sir Michael Stoute and could miss an intended start in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. on July 23. The Saeed Suhail-owned colt was due to work on Thursday morning, but that plan has been suspended.

“He won't be working tomorrow morning,” said Stoute. “We just have a little niggle that we are checking out on his foot.

“So, we will have more news on Friday or Saturday. It is too early to say whether he will run in the King George. We can't make a decision now.”

An impressive three-for-three in his young career, the bay won at Nottingham in November, before bolting up a 3 1/4-length victor in the G2 Dante S. at York on May 12. He polished off his Epsom foes by 2 1/2 lengths on June 4 and has not graced the racecourse since.

Setback Knocks Eydon Out Of G1 Cazoo Derby

Prince Faisal's Listed Feilden S. hero Eydon (Ire) (Olden Times {GB}) has suffered a 'minor setback' and will miss the G1 Cazoo Derby, trainer Roger Varian confirmed on Twitter. The colt was last seen running fourth in the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Apr. 30.

“Sadly, Eydon will miss the Derby at Epsom,” Varian tweeted. “He has met with a minor setback which will keep him from running on Saturday.

“While it is of course hugely frustrating to miss a Classic opportunity, we will look forward to the rest of the season with Eydon and he remains a very exciting prospect for his owner, Prince A A Faisal.”

Derby and King George Hero Adayar Forced To Miss Prince Of Wales’s S. at Royal Ascot

Godolphin's 2021 G1 Cazoo Derby winner Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) will miss a start in Royal Ascot's G1 Prince Of Wales's S. in June, trainer Charlie Appleby confirmed. A minor setback had forced the 4-year-old to skip his planned seasonal bow in the June 3 G1 Coronation Cup S. The G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. victor requires more time to fully come right, and Appleby did not divulge the colt's next start.

“The team at Moulton Paddocks have decided to bypass Royal Ascot with Adayar,” Appleby tweeted from the Godolphin account on Saturday.

“This is to give him more time to bounce back to full fitness following the minor setback which saw him taken out of the Coronation Cup.”

In other news, Barbara and Alick Richmond's G2 Jockey Club S. hero Living Legend (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) has been supplemented, bringing the field of the Coronation Cup to six. The Coolmore partners' G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup second High Definition (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) faces 2021 Coronation Cup victor Pyledriver (GB) (Harbour Watch {Ire}), Shadwell's multiple group winner Hukum (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), dual group winner Manobo (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), who is deputising for Adayar, Charlie Appleby and Godolphin, and Brian Meehan's Palavecino (Fr) (Cacique {Ire}).
