Godolphin’s Nash Powers to TDN Rising Stardom at Churchill

While there may have been a few unanswered questions heading into Sunday's seventh race at Churchill Downs, there seemed to be none afterward. Installed the second betting choice behind the 7-5 choice, GISP Be You (Curlin), Nash (Medaglia d'Oro) completely dismantled his competition with seemingly little effort, cruising home an eye-catching 10 1/4-length winner while stamping himself a TDN Rising Star in the process.

Sent screaming to the front in the blink of an eye, the 9-5 chance cut out an opening quarter in :23.83 and a half in :47.93. Still moving powerfully through the quarter pole, the Godolphin homebred was cut loose in the stretch, and flew down the lane in complete command, winning by a gaudy margin while well in hand under Florent Geroux. Longshot Justifreak (Justify) was second, while Resilience (Into Mischief) rounded out the trifecta. The favorite came home fifth.

Sent off the 8-5 choice in his career debut at Keeneland Oct. 7, Nash came home fifth behind 5-1 chance Booth (Mitole) in the six-furlong event. He had been working steadily over this surface, including a pair of :49 flat moves Oct. 28 (40/95) and Nov. 4 (41/96).

Out of three-time graded winner Sara Louise, the winner is a half to Sara Street (Street Sense), GSP, $216,100. Sara Louise is also responsible for Mrs. Hudson (Street Cry {Ire}), dam of SW Airosa (Uncle Mo) and Coronation Street (Street Cry), dam of GSW Kalik (Collected). Subsequent to Sunday's Rising Star, the mare produced a colt by Street Sense in 2022 and was bred back to Nyquist this season.

Medaglia d’Oro Colt Annexes Belated Debut at Meydan

4th-Meydan, AED165,000, Maiden, 3yo, 1600m, 1:39.07, ft.
MESHTRI (c, 3, Medaglia d'Oro–Clothes Fall Off {MSW & MGSP, $485,860}, by Daaher) made the most of his belated racetrack debut to score by a hard-fought half-length. Spearing through to lead shortly after the break, the bay was overtaken by Nevershow Weakness (Lord Nelson) underneath him and was content to take the sit for the in-form James Orman. Asked to come after the front-runner as they turned into the straight, Meshtri drew on even terms with about 300 metres to travel and just held a brave Nevershow Weakness in the final stages. Second favourite Golden Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) hit his head on the top of the stalls pre-start, could not assume his typical position at the head of affairs, and dropped away to finish a long last. “It was a good win today over a testing mile and Michael [Costa, trainer] had him spot on,” said Orman. “He travelled really well and gave me a winning feeling. It's a short stint here, but hopefully I'll be back one day.” The winner's cleverly named dam, a daughter of the stakes-winning and Grade III-placed Tequilas Dayjur (Dayjur), was purchased by Candy Meadows for $400,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. Clothes Fall Off is also responsible for the 2-year-old colt Extensive (City of Light), a yearling filly by McKinzie (Street Sense) that sold for $190,000 at Keeneland September and a weanling filly by Street Sense. She was most recently bred to Not This Time. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $26,958. Click for the Emiratesracing.com chart.

Saturday’s Insights: Daughter of Grade I Winner Romantic Vision Debuts at Keeneland

4th-KEE, $100K, Msw, 3yo/up, f, 6f, 2:36 p.m. ET.
G. Watts Humphrey campaigned homebred Romantic Vision (Lemon Drop Kid), who won three out of her four tries at Keeneland, including the 2017 GI Juddmonte Spinster S. Now, her first offspring RARE AFFAIR (Medaglia d'Oro) debuts and like her dam, she's trained by Rusty Arnold.

Romantic Vision is also responsible for a yearling colt by Nyquist, who just sold during Keeneland September for $700,000 to the Three Amigos, foaled a colt by Essential Quality Apr. 1 and she was bred to City of Light for next year.

Rare Affair hails from a deep family of Humphrey homebreds which includes second dam GSP Perfect for You (Giant's Causeway), fourth dam GSW Dream Scheme (Danzig) and her half-sister, MGISW Clear Mandate (Deputy Mininster), herself the dam of MGSW and MGISP Newfoundland (Storm Cat) and GISW Strong Mandate (Tiznow), among others. This is an extended female family which includes GI Lane's End Breeders' Futurity winner Great Hunter (Aptitude), GIII Peter Pan S. champ Promise Keeper (Constitution) and champion 3-year-old filly Stellar Wind (Curlin). TJCIS PPS
