Sea The Sky had failed to get in front since snagging her Nov. 2 debut at Chantilly and went postward for this marathon coming back off a third in Deauville's Aug. 14 G3 Prix Minerve. Settled off the pace in sixth for the most part, she made continued headway under pressure in the home straight to gain a narrow advantage entering the final furlong and was ridden out late to deny Divine Jewel in a bobbing finish for a career high.

Sea The Sky, the seventh of nine foals, is one of three scorers produced by an unraced full-sister to G1 Deutsches Derby-winning sires Samum (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) and Schiaparelli (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) and G1 Preis der Diana  (German Oaks) heroine Salve Regina (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}). The €820,000 BBAG September yearling is a full-sister to runaway G1 Deutsches Derby-winning sire Sea The Moon (Ger) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) and to the dam of this term's Listed Abingdon S. runner-up Golden Lyra (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}). She is also a half-sister to Listed Dallmayr Coupe Lukull runner-up Sansiwa (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) and a yearling filly by Frankel (GB). Sea The Sky's weanling full-brother is slated to sell at this year's Goffs November Foal sale, according to Gestut Gorlsdorf's Niko Lafrentz.

Frankel Filly A New Rising Star At Deauville

Leaving a deep impression on debut at Deauville on Thursday, the Wertheimers' Left Sea (GB) (Frankel {GB}–Left Hand {GB}, by Dubawi {Ire}) earned TDN Rising Star status with a five-length success in the Prix de la Reboursiere over a mile. A daughter of their G1 Prix Vermeille heroine from the family of Plumania (GB) (Anabaa), the Carlos Laffon-Parias trained bay was nobody's secret as the 8-5 favourite and was allowed to establish an instant lead by Maxime Guyon. Kicking in early straight, the homebred registered a penultimate sectional of 11.19 as she stretched to the impressive winning margin over the Freddy Head-trained Brandywine (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), with another 1 1/2 lengths back to Dschingis Grace (Fr) (Dschingis Secret {Ger}) in third. “She is a very nice filly and we always liked her,” Laffon-Parias commented. “She has confirmed what we have seen at home and is in all the major races, including the Fillies' Mile.” Video, sponsored by TVG.

The sire's second TDN Rising Star at the current Deauville August Festival after Kelina (Ire) and his 33rd in total, Left Sea is the second and currently last known foal out of the aforementioned Vermeille heroine and G1 Prix de Diane runner-up Left Hand, who is a daughter of the G2 Prix de Royallieu scorer Balladeuse (Fr) (Singspiel {Ire}). Balladeuse also produced the listed scorer Bilissie (GB) by Dansili (GB) and her full-sister Romanciere (Ire), who was placed on several occasions at group level including when third in the G1 Prix Jean Romanet.

The third dam Featherquest (GB) (Rainbow Quest) also threw the aforementioned Plumania, a past TDN Rising Star who went on to glory in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud before producing the G2 Prix du Muguet winner Plumatic (GB) from a mating with Left Hand's sire Dubawi. Other descendants of Featherquest, who is a half to the leading sire Groom Dancer, include Solsticia (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) who was third in the G1 Prix Saint Alary and Frankel's smart Rumi (Fr) who captured last year's G2 Prix de la Nonette and G3 Prix Vanteaux.

Freshman Sire Seabhac Off The Mark At Lyon-Parilly

Seabhac (Scat Daddy) became the latest European freshman sire off the mark when Anton Doerner's homebred Everwin (Fr) (Seabhac–Quatuor {Ire}, by Kodiac {GB}) notched a first winner for the Haras de Saint Arnoult resident in Monday's Prix des Iris, a maiden race for 2-year-olds, at Lyon Parilly.

2nd-Lyon-Parilly, €18,000, Mdn, 6-27, 2yo, 6 3/4fT, 1:26.49, sf.
EVERWIN (FR) (c, 2, Seabhac–Quatuor {Ire}, by Kodiac {GB}) settled off the pace in a midfield eighth for most of this debut. Making smooth headway along the far-side rail once into the straight, the 47-10 chance quickened to the front approaching the final furlong and was pushed clear in the closing stages to easily account for Spirit Grey (Fr) (Charm Spirit {Ire}), by an impressive 3 1/2 lengths, becoming the first winner for his freshman sire (by Scat Daddy). Everwin is the latest of five foals and third scorer produced by a multiple-winning granddaughter of G3 Prix de Saint-Georges victrix Maybe Forever (GB) (Zafonic), herself a half-sister to MG1SW sire Court Masterpiece (GB) (Polish Precedent). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, €9,000. Video, sponsored by TVG.

Intello’s Junko Battles To Prix Noailles Success

Alain and Gerard Wertheimer's homebred 3-year-old gelding Junko (GB) (Intello {Ger}), who went untested as a juvenile, followed up an impressive score in his Feb. 24 debut at Chantilly with an equally taking triumph back at that track last month and continued on an upward trajectory by notching a career high on black-type bow in Sunday's G3 Prix Noailles at ParisLongchamp. Under restraint in a close-up second until scrubbed along off the home turn, the 17-10 favourite locked horns with the pacesetting Maximus (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) passing the quarter-mile marker and would not be denied under a late drive to deny that tenacious rival by a neck.

Junko is the third foal and scorer produced by GIII Regret S. and GIII Edgewood S. placegetter Lady Zuzu (Dynaformer), herself a half-sister to MGSW GI Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and GI Woodford Reserve Manhattan H. runner-up Optimizer (English Channel) and to the dam of stakes-winning GI Belmont Derby Invitational third Cellist (Big Blue Kitten). The April foaled-homebred bay is kin to a 2-year-old colt by Frankel (GB) and a weanling colt by Siyouni (Fr).
