Nov. 18 Insights: Well-bred Fillies Take the Stage in Kentucky, New York

8th-AQU, $85k, Msw, 2yo, f, 1 1/16mT, 3:15p.m. ET
Jumping from the middle of the field and carrying an expensive $650,000 KEESEP tag in addition to Irad Ortiz Jr. is CHP Racing's SPENDALOT (More Than Ready). The full-sister to MGSW & GISP Consumer Spending comes into this race with a consistent work tab for conditioner Chad Brown. Beneath her second dam Shaconage (El Prado {Ire}) is the dam of several Chilean Group and stakes runners including GSW & G1SP Jacare (Chi) (Lookin At Lucky) as well as GSP La Jardinera (Chi) (Verrazano).

To her far outside is the pair of homebreds Scandalous (Mastery) and Spinning Class (Twirling Candy). The former is a Pletcher trainee who will carry the colors of co-breeder and co-owners Bass Stables. Cheyenne Stables bought into the filly out of a half-sister to MSW Pickapocket (Mecke); GSW & GISP Wild At Heart (Indian Charlie) and that one's full-sister GSP Visavis. Spinning Class hails from the venerable Janney operation, owned by Stuart S. Janney III, and is the first to the races for GSW My Impression (Sky Mesa), herself a half-sister to the dam of GSW Scarlett Sky (Sky Mesa). This is the female line of Claiborne stalwart First Samurai. TJCIS PPs

7th-CD, $120k, Msw, 2yo, f, 6f, 4:01p.m. ET
Making her career-first start for owner Godolphin is HOPE MISSION (Medaglia d'Oro), the flagbearer to the races for GSW & GISP Arabian Hope (Distorted Humor), who is herself a half-sister to $3.65m FTFMAR grad MGSW Cezanne (Curlin) and MSP Counterforce (Smart Strike). This is the female family of GISW Streaming (Smart Strike); champion 3-year-old filly MGISW Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy); MGSW & GISP Tyson (Tapit); and MGISW Arcangelo (Arrogate). TJCIS PPs

Mastery Filly Dazzles at Laurel

7th-Laurel, $54,810, Alw (NW1X)/Opt. Clm ($50,000-$62,500), 4-29, 3yo, f, 7f, 1:24.47, gd, 10 1/4 lengths.

GOODGIRL BADHABITS (f, 3, Mastery–Dazzler, by Vindication), in a near carbon copy of her Mar. 10 debut over this surface, remained undefeated and proved a handy, open-daylight winner. The 1-5 choice swerved right at the break but shot immediately to the front and never let anyone close as she established a comfortable pace. After a first quarter in :23.18, a half in :46.53, and with her ears flicking on the turn, Goodgirl Badhabits kept rolling in the stretch as rider Jevian Toledo took a peek under his arm at the competition. There was none. He gave only the mildest of encouragement through the stretch to the dark bay as she cantered home a 10 1/4-length victress in the easiest of wins. Major Houlihan (Army Mule) finished best of the rest.

Goodgirl Badhabits broke her maiden last month, recovering from a bobbled break to set all the pace and power home 12 3/4 lengths the best at 5 1/2 furlongs. From the same extended family as champion and blue hen Serena's Song (Rahy), the winner is a half to Dazzling Gem (Misremembered), SW-PR, MGSP-USA, $508,303. Her dam has a 2-year-old filly by Palace Malice, who sold for $190,000 to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners at this week's OBS Spring sale, and a yearling filly by Global Campaign. She was bred to Knicks Go for this spring. Sales History: $135,000 Ylg '21 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $63,600. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

Mastery’s Promise Me a Ride Strides Clear at the Fair Grounds

7th-Fair Grounds, $50,000, Msw, 3-19, 3yo, 1 1/16m (off turf), 1:45.25, ft, 4 1/4 lengths.
PROMISE ME A RIDE (c, 3, Mastery–Promise Me More {SW & GSP, $171,866}, by More Than Ready), Triple Crown-nominated and sporting many of the same owners as his stablemate one race prior, 'TDN Rising Star' Bishops Bay (Uncle Mo), raced from the second flight in this off-turf unveiling and rode the rail going into the first turn. Angled out into the four path and pulling for his head to take command, Promise Me a Ride was in control at the half-mile pole and going willingly at the three-eighths. Striding clear as Monomoy Girl (Tapizar)'s half-brother and even-money favorite Tapthedrum (Tapit) closed encouragingly from fourth to take runner-up honors by a head,  the dark bay gave his conditioner a daily double by 4 1/4 lengths. A half to MSP Warrior's Promise (Warrior's Reward) and SP North Arm Bay (Overanalyze), Promise Me a Ride has a 2-year-old half-sister by Classic Empire. Dam Promise Me More is due to Maclean's Music for 2023. Sales history: $95,000 Ylg '21 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $30,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

Mastery Filly Runs Them Ragged On Laurel Unveiling

3rd-Laurel, $52,600, Msw, 3-10, 3yo, f, 5 1/2f, 1:05.39, ft, 12 3/4 lengths.
GOODGIRL BADHABITS (f, 3, Mastery–Dazzler, by Vindication), the 11-10 favorite for this unveiling on the back of four speedy works over this surface–including a five-furlong bullet in 1:00 flat Mar. 1–never gave them a chance. Blinkered and speeding to the lead after breaking only fairly, the filly put up :22.58 and :46.32 splits from the rail and was seven lengths ahead with three-sixteenths of a mile to race. She continued to build on that advantage while not asked for her best and reported home 12 3/4 lengths to the good of fellow firster and 32-1 longshot Run Around Slew (Practical Joke). The half-sister to GII Louisiana Derby placegetter Dazzling Gem (Misremembered), SW-PR, MGSP-USA, $508,303 was the second dominant winner on the card for her conditioner, who also sent out 9 1/2-length maiden breaker Uncle Jake (Uncle Mo) in the opener before adding a third winner later in the program. Goodgirl Badhabits, whose deeper female family includes the legendary Serena's Song (Rahy), also has a stakes-winning half-sister in Rose to Fame (Gemologist), who is represented by a yearling Mastery colt. Dazzler is the dam of a 2-year-old Palace Malice filly that fetched $110,000 at KEESEP last fall and a yearling filly by Global Campaign. Their dam is due to Knicks Go for this season. Sales history: $135,000 Ylg '21 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $31,200. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.
