Frankel’s Adayar In Doncaster Comeback Cruise

He's back. Godolphin's 2021 Derby and King George hero Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) enjoyed what was an exercise gallop with prize money at Doncaster on Thursday as he marked his low-key comeback in the 10-furlong Hilton Garden Inn Doncaster Conditions S. with a cruise around Town Moor. Settled last of the trio early by William Buick, the 2-7 favourite moved to Masekela (Ire) (El Kabeir) with ease two out and without any prompting bulldozed that rival by 3 3/4 lengths. “You are always a bit apprehensive after so much time off, but full credit to the team as they've done a great job,” Charlie Appleby said. “You just hope he's still got the enthusiasm for it and that was a perfect gallop for him there. The decision as to whether to go to the Arc or Champion Stakes will be made another day but I didn't want him to have a hard race there as he would be going into either as pretty much his first run of the year and I want to avoid the bounce. To be honest, I've worked him harder at home–he enjoyed himself around there.”

Royal Lodge Next For Masekela

Progressive juvenile Masekela (Ire) (El Kabeir) will line up next in the Sept. 25 G2 Royal Lodge S. Mick and Janice Mariscotti's colt holds some of the best formlines of any 2-year-old colt this term, running fifth to subsequent G2 Futurity S. hero Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}) in the Listed Chesham S. at Royal Ascot before a short head second in the G2 Superlative S. to Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) on July 10. The latter stepped up to win the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S. at The Curragh on Sept. 12, with Point Lonsdale second. Hailing from the Andrew Balding yard which is enjoying a strong year, Masekela was last seen in action taking the Listed Denford S. at Newbury on Aug. 14, with Bayside Boy (Ire) (New Bay {GB}), future winner of the G2 Champagne S., a head back in second.

“He's in good form and he's going to the Royal Lodge next weekend,” said Balding. “The form of his races is working out well–which is always good to see. An extra furlong should really suit him in the Royal Lodge, so we're looking forward to it.”
