Timonium Meet Concludes with Handle Increases

The Maryland State Fair meet at Timonium concluded Monday with increases in on-track and total handle. Total wagering at the fair, including money wagered at Timonium on live and simulcast races and simulcast handle on Timonium racing, totaled $7,827,083, up 11.11% from last year. A total of $716,384 was wagered on-track on Timonium racing, up 11.25% from last year, while export handle jumped to $4,103,198, a 39.66% rise from last season.

For the second consecutive year, 63 races were conducted, with more than $2 million in purse money distributed. A total of 400 horses raced at the meet, the highest since 2018 and up 8.85% from last year. There were no equine fatalities during the seven-day meet.

“On behalf of the Maryland State Fair and Agricultural Society, we appreciate the support from our racing staff, participants, horsemen and fans during our race meeting,” said Bill Marlow, the chairman of the Maryland State Fair race committee. “The historic gains we have achieved would not have been possible without their support.”

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Catalogue Online

A total of 392 yearlings have been catalogued for the upcoming Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale to be held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium Oct. 2 and 3. Hips 1-124 will be offered during the Monday session, which will begin at 3 p.m. and hips 125 through 392 will be offered during the Tuesday session, which will begin at 11 a.m.

“This year's catalogue features nearly 400 yearlings representing a wide variety of national and regional sires and state-bred programs,” said Midlantic Director of Sales Paget Bennett. “Each year, the Midlantic Fall Yearling sale attracts new buyers based on recent graduate successes, which includes GI Spinaway S. winner Leave No Trace among more than 200 stakes wins and placings in 2022 and 2023. This is a sale not to be missed.”

The catalogue can be viewed online here and will also be available via the equineline sales catalogue app. Print catalogues will be available by Sept. 5.

Midlantic June Two-Year-Olds-In-Training Catalogue Now Online

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic June Two-Year-Olds-in-Training Sale is now online. The sale is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. The under-tack show is scheduled for the day prior, Tuesday, June 27, beginning at 8 a.m. The breeze-up had previously been scheduled for Monday, June 26, but that date has been moved.

A new auction for 2023, the sale represents is the last two-year-old sale of the season and is the only sale in June to be conducted over a dirt race track. Ninety two-year-olds have been entered in the sale.

“There are some nice opportunities in this catalogue, which has strong sire power and a variety of state-bred programs represented from both the Midlantic region and beyond,” said Paget Bennett, Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Director of Sales. “This sale should prove advantageous for buyers as it is one of the few auctions in which they can evaluate a two-year-old's performance over a dirt surface. The late June date also allows buyers to send their purchases straight to the racetrack from the sale.”

Sires represented in the catalogue include Arrogate, Audible, Blame, Bolt d'Oro, Catalina Cruiser, Catholic Boy, Classic Empire, Dialed In, English Channel, Flatter, Frosted, Good Magic, Kitten's Joy, Liam's Map, Mitole, More Than Ready, Munnings, Not This Time, Omaha Beach, Practical Joke, Twirling Candy, Uncle Mo, Vino Rosso, Violence, and War Front.

State-bred or regional programs represented are Arkansas, California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Ontario (Canada), Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The catalogue will also be available in the equineline sales catalogue app. Print catalogues will be available beginning June 12.

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Under Tack Show Starts Tuesday

The three-day under-tack show for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale begins Tuesday morning at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. The first 200 catalogued juveniles are slated to work Tuesday, followed by hips 201 through 400 on Wednesday and hips 401 through 603 on Thursday. Each session of the under-tack show begins at 8 a.m.
The May sale, which produced this year's GI Kentucky Derby winner Mage (Good Magic), will be held next Monday and Tuesday with bidding beginning each day at 11 a.m.
