Aqueduct New Year’s Eve Card To Feature Mandatory Payouts In Empire 6, Pick 5 Wagers

The New York Racing Association announced the New Year's Eve card at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y., will feature mandatory payouts of the Empire 6, Early Pick 5 and Late Pick 5 wagers, in accordance with New York State Gaming Commission rules.

The final day of live racing for 2020 at the Big A on Thursday, December 31 will be highlighted by the Empire 6, which boasted a jackpot of $139,360.46 heading into Sunday's 10-race card at Aqueduct. No live racing will be conducted at the track from December 21-30.

The Empire 6 requires the bettor to select the first-place finisher of the final six races of the day's card. On non-mandatory payout days, if one unique ticket exists, then 100 percent of the net pool, plus the jackpot carryover if applicable, will be paid to the winner. If there is no unique wager selecting the first-place finisher in all six races, then 75 percent of the day's net pool will be distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races. The remainder will be added into the jackpot and carried to the next day's Empire 6.

$5.3 Million Wagered On Gulfstream Rainbow 6 On Mandatory Payout Day

Gulfstream Park's mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 resulted in multiple winning tickets Saturday returning $7,363.64.

There was a carryover of $839,334.75 in the Rainbow 6 at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track, and $5.336 million of new money bet into the pool. The sequence included Repole Stable's Always Shopping winning the Via Borghese and Sleepy Eyes Todd winning the Mr. Prospector (G3).

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Racing continues at Gulfstream Sunday with an 11-race program featuring two Florida-bred allowance optional claiming events with purses of $40,000. The ninth race, at a mile on the main track, has Charlie the Greek entered off a sixth-place finish Dec. 5 in the Claiming Crown Iron Horse. Green Mansions will make his first start since being claimed by Jorge Delgado. The 10^th race, at five furlongs on the turf, has Ray'swarrior as the 5-2 favorite, Trained by Kelly Breen, Ray'swarrior comes into the race off a fifth-place finish in the Claiming Crown Express.

The Rainbow 6 will have a guaranteed pool Sunday of $75,000.

Who's Hot: Tyler Gaffalione, Irad Ortiz Jr. and Arindel. Gaffalione rode four winners, including Sleepy Eyes Todd ($12.20) in the Mr. Prospector (G3). Ortiz rode three winners, including Always Shopping ($7.40) in the Via Borghese and Arindel's homebreds Cobb ($5.60) in the third race and Sonar ($8.40) the seventh race.

That’s The Ticket! Gulfstream Hosts, Handicappers Offer Advice On Mandatory Payout Rainbow 6

The mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., where the pool is expected to grow to $6 million or more, features two stakes, four turf races, and a closing sequence featuring 11 juveniles going a mile in a maiden special weight event on the grass.

The challenging sequence, which begins with the sixth race, also includes the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) featuring seven graded-stakes winners going seven furlongs, and the $100,000 Via Borghese, a 1 3/16 mile turf event for fillies and mares.

Gulfstream hosts and analysts Jason Blewitt, Acacia Courtney and Ron Nicoletti along with Mike Welsch of the Daily Racing Form and Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press have put together tickets for Saturday's Rainbow 6.

Some of the more interesting selections include:

Nicoletti using Hero Up (30-1) in the first leg
Reynolds including Inventing Blame (12-1) in the third leg.
Welsch putting Lasting Legacy (15-1) in the fifth leg
Courtney including 20-1 shot Kentucky Pharoah in the final leg

$347,136 Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool, Mandatory Payout In Gulfstream Park West Finale

A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 pool will highlight the closing-day program at Gulfstream Park West Saturday.

A jackpot pool of $347.136.72 will be carried over to Saturday's card after the popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 17th consecutive racing program Friday.

Gulfstream hosts and analysts Jason Blewitt and Ron Nicoletti look at the races in Saturday's sequence, and they have a difference of opinion on some of them.

Mandatory payouts of the Late Pick 5 and the last-race Super Hi-5 are also scheduled.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 5-10.

Zayas (Jockey) Crichton (Trainer) Seek to Wrap Up Titles
Edgard Zayas heads into Saturday's final card at Gulfstream West with a 41-38 edge over Emisael Jaramillo in the jockey's race. Zayas has been named to ride 10 horses, including two main-track-only entrants, Saturday. Jaramillo is scheduled to ride in seven races, including an also-eligible entrant. Miguel Vasquez, who took closing weekend off, completed the meet with 39 winners.

Rohan Crichton, who is seeking his first U.S. training title, holds a 19-16 edge defending champion Saffie Joseph Jr., going into Saturday's card. Crichton has two horses entered for the last GPW program, while Joseph has three horses entered. Antonio Sano, who has 15 winners, has five horses entered Saturday.

Crichton, who saddled a pair of winners Friday, also holds a 6-5 edge over Paradise Farms Corp. for the owner's title.
