MISS DRACARYS (f, 2, Malibu Moon–Ask Me When, by Speightstown), the second-priciest offspring by her sire of 47 yearlings sold in 2019 when bringing $525,000 at Keeneland September, lit up the tote board at 23-1 in this debut run. She raced under a snug hold in seventh on the inside and was traveling nicely as the field hit the quarter pole. Kept along the fence by Kendrick Carmouche as they turned for home, the bay threaded the needle in deep stretch and ran to daylight to win going away by a length over Stuck On Kitten (Kitten’s Joy). The winner is a half to Up the Ante (Smart Strike), SW & GSP, $298,713; and a full to Aristocratic, SW & GSP, $361,379. Fasig New York-bred Record Setter Runs to the Money at Big A

BRATTLE HOUSE (f, 2, Malibu Moon–Savvy Sassy, by Street Sense), who set a Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Yearlings Sale record when she brought $775,0000 from Larry Best last August, began repaying that investment Sunday with a facile debut win against an overmatched group of New York-bred fillies. Looking to follow in the hoofsteps of stablemate Harper’s in Charge (Malibu Moon), who dusted an open group of maidens here a week earlier to be named a ‘TDN Rising Star‘, the 4-5 favorite broke running from the rail and made the early lead fairly easily. Reined in by Joel Rosario to allow a rival to join in on pacesetting duties along the fence, Brattle House began to pull away from that foe into a :48.75 half. Flower’s Fortune (Effinex) ranged up and attempted to run with the chalk heading for home, but Brattle House cantered away all by herself with a high-headed action to romp by a geared-down 5 1/4 lengths. “I’ve never shopped the New York sale before,” Best said after signing the ticket last year on Brattle House. “I didn’t even intend to shop today. But I had nothing to do this afternoon, so I came over and looked at some horses and that one caught my eye. It’s a beautiful day. I had other business to do this morning, got doneearly and felt like I’d come over and look. And here we are.” The winner is half to this year’s Jerome S. runner-up Bourbon Bay (Bayern) and a weanling filly by Flatter. Malibu Moon Filly Always in Command at Big A; Earns Rising Stardom

Cheyenne Stables LLC’s Harper’s in Charge (Malibu Moon) ran to advanced billing to post an extremely easy debut victory worthy of the ‘TDN Rising Star’ distinction. Pounded all the way down to 7-5 off an 8-1 morning line, the $220,000 KEESEP yearling zipped out of the gate and was immediately a length in front. She cruised along through splits of 22.83 and :46.84, and continued into the lane in complete command as Manny Franco peeked back for competition. Nobody could run with the leader, and she hit another gear for good measure in midstretch while running up the score to 6 1/2 lengths. Chad Brown/Klaravich firster Commandandcontrol (Quality Road) was second best.

The winner’s unraced dam Azara (More Than Ready) is a half-sister to superstar Tepin (Bernstein) and MGSW Vyjack (Into Mischief). She sold for $875,000 in foal to Into Mischief at KEENOV ’16. The resulting foal, I’ll Fight Dempsey, was a $300,000 yearling and debut winner at Gulfstream in February. Azara produced a Flatter colt earlier this term before being bred back to Into Mischief.

Filly & Mare Sprint: Martin Hoping For Big Farewell Performance From ‘Fresh’ Come Dancing

Blue Devil Racing Stable's Come Dancing worked a bullet five-eighths in 58.80 Thursday on the main track at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., in preparation for the final start of her career in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Keeneland on Nov. 7.

Trainer Carlos Martin said the 6-year-old Malibu Moon mare worked effortlessly under jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr., who guided Come Dancing to a three-quarter length score last out in the G2 Honorable Miss on September 6 at the Spa.

“Everything went great. She worked really, really well,” said Martin. “She went by herself. It was a little quick but we wanted to get a good work into her before we leave next week for Kentucky. Irad let her have a good, strong gallop out with the race about three weeks away. He went out seven eighths in 1:24, but if you had seen the workout you'd have said she was on cruise control. I was happy with how she came back and her energy level is good. I think we're on the right track.”

Come Dancing won 4-of-6 starts last year including scores in the G3 Distaff at Aqueduct, the G2 Ruffian and G2 Gallant Bloom at Belmont, and the G1 Ballerina at Saratoga. She completed her campaign by finishing sixth in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa Anita.

Martin said he is hoping a fresh Come Dancing will be ready to fire a big shot in the final race of an impressive career that includes nine wins from 18 starts and more than $1.1 million in purse earnings.

“I think the last race got her back on the right path,” said Martin. “We wanted her a little fresher this year. We skipped the Gallant Bloom, a race I really loved winning last year, but she's a 6-year-old now and I wanted to take her in fresh for her swan song. She runs great fresh.

“For a 6-year-old mare, it's more a mental thing than conditioning,” added Martin. “She gets a lot out of her gallops. I don't think fitness is an issue at all. I just want to keep her happy and wanting to do it on race day.”

Martin said a fresh and happy Come Dancing will breeze again on Friday on the Belmont training track before shipping to Keeneland on Sunday to finalize preparations.

“I've learned over the years, especially with older fillies, you just need to keep them sound and happy,” said Martin. “She knows her job. She's been great for us and I hope she'll put in a great performance for us in the last race of her career. She definitely won't be short.”
