Prix d’Ispahan Glory For Lope De Vega’s Dreamloper

Pitched in against the colts in a winnable renewal of the G1 Prix d'Ispahan at ParisLongchamp on Sunday, Dreamloper (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}–Livia's Dream {Ire}, by Teofilo {Ire}) put them to the sword to reward Ed Walker's enterprise. Putting it all together with a career-best success in Newmarket's G2 Dahlia S. at the start of the month, the 5-1 shot was kept close to the leader Sealiway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}) by Kieran Shoemark before brushing last year's Champion S. hero aside in early straight. Staying on powerfully as the closers struggled to make inroads, she hit the line with two lengths to spare over the outsider Wally (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) as Pretty Tiger (Ire) (Sea the Moon {Ger}) edged third, a further neck behind. “Kieran said she's improved so much, but I don't know where it's come from,” Walker commented. “She's taken a lot of figuring out, but is mentally easier on herself these days. A performance like that would give her a chance against most.”

Dreamloper first demonstrated her latent class when handing a 4 1/2-length beating to Lights On (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) in the G3 Valiant S. over a mile at Ascot in July, but dropping back to seven was the wrong way to go on her next start when fourth in Newbury's G2 Hungerford S. Disappointing when 10th in the G1 Matron S. at Leopardstown in September, the bay bounced back to be third in the G1 Sun Chariot S. at Newmarket in October but all evidence so far points to her having upped her game again in 2022. “Ever since the end of last year when she finished third in the Sun Chariot she's done nothing but progress,” her trainer added. “There is the Rothschild and the Romanet, but the Nassau is the perfect fit.”

Shoemark echoed that feeling. “I was so lucky to gain my first group one win on Lady Bowthorpe and I think this filly is a similar type who would love it in the Nassau,” he said. “She had won the race two and a half out. She was very impressive–when I asked her to quicken she was instantly responsive.”

Dreamloper's dam Livia's Dream (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), who was successful in the 12-furlong Listed Wild Flower S., is out of the Listed Dick Hern Fillies' S. winner Brindisi (GB) (Dr. Fong) whose listed-placed half-sister La Spezia (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) produced the G2 Doncaster Cup hero Thomas Hobson (GB) (Halling). This is the family of the G1 Epsom Oaks heroine Talent (GB) (New Approach {Ire}), whose daughter Ambition (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) captured the G2 Prix Corrida. Livia's Dream also has the unraced 2-year-old filly Dreamrocker (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and a yearling filly by Golden Horn (GB).

Group 3 Winner By Areion Tops The BBAG Spring Sale at €52,000

Friday's BBAG Mixed Breeze-Up Sale featured 89 lots, and it was the 2021 G3 Kalkmann Fruhjahrs-Meile hero Zavaro (Ger) (Areion {Ger}) (lot 64) who took top honours at €52,000. Knocked down to Stall Villa Medici, he was a member of the Gestut Ohlerweiherhof draft. From the extended family of Group 1 winners Intense Focus (Giant's Causeway) and Skitter Scatter (Scat Daddy), the 5-year-old was most recently seen running second in Thursday's G2 Kronimus Badener Meile.

Second on the buyers' sheets was the Gestut Brummerhof-consigned Promised (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) (lot 89). HFTB Racing shelled out €38,000 for the daughter of listed winner Promesse de l'Aube (Fr) (Galileo {Ire}), who herself is a foal of Preis de Diane-placed White Rose (Ger) (Platini {Ger}).

A juvenile filly by Cloth of Stars (Ire) led the way in the 2-year-old portion of the sale, catching the eye of Laetitia Domenig for €32,000. Lot 79, from the Renello Bloodstock Agency, is out of Lightning Debut (Pivotal {GB}).

Overall, 56 sold from 76 offered (73%) for a gross of €586,500. The average improved 26% to €10,473 and the median was $10,111 (+19%).

Dreamloper To Face Males In Prix D’Ispahan

G2 Dahlia S. heroine Dreamloper (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) will try her luck against males in the G1 Prix d'Ispahan at ParisLongchamp on Sunday, according to trainer Ed Walker. A winner of the G3 Valiant S. last July and third in the G1 Sun Chariot S. later that year, the bay mare clawed out a nose victory in the Dahlia S. at Newmarket on May 1. After her visit to France, the J. Fill colourbearer has an engagement in the June 26 G1 Pretty Polly S.

“The plan is to go for the Prix d'Ispahan on Sunday, she's in very good form and she came out of the Newmarket race well,” Walker said. “It is a big ask to go and take on the colts in a Group 1, but it is a nice stepping stone between the Dahlia and the Pretty Polly.

“We've been very pleased with her and we were very happy with the Newmarket run, she saw it out well–we're looking forward to it.”

Lope de Vega’s Sweet Lady On Top in the Prix Corrida

Gemini Stud's Sweet Lady (Fr) (Lope de Vega {Ire}–High Heel Sneakers {GB}, by Dansili {GB}) posted a career high in October's G3 Prix de Flore at Saint-Cloud and lined up for Tuesday's G3 Prix Corrida back over the same 10 1/2-furlong distance at the Paris venue returning off a second in April's Listed Prix Lord Seymour at ParisLongchamp. The 5-2 second favourite adopted her usual patient tactics and was positioned off the tempo in fifth for the most part. Nudged along to close with 500 metres remaining, she quickened in smart fashion to launch her challenge entering the final furlong and was ridden out in the closing stages to assert superiority. Last term's Listed Prix La Camargo victrix and G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches fourth hit the line with a half-length advantage from Burgarita (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}).

“She is a very smart filly who is much more mature than she was last season,” explained trainer Francis-Henri Graffard. “We did well to run her over one-and-a-half miles last time to teach her more about how to settle and the experience did her a lot of good. We also we made the right decision to pass on the G3 Prix d'Hedouville and wait for this race. If only because we avoided fast ground and hot temperatures. The softer it is, the better it is for her and we are convinced that the second half of the season will give her more opportunities.  She will be entered in the [G1] Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud here and the [G1 Prix] Jean Romanet at Deauville, but there will be no rush to run if conditions are not suitable. The [G1] Yorshire Oaks are also a possibility and of course she is entered in the [G1] Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. We will take the time we need to decide what is next and, for the time being, she has enriched her resume and we're delighted.”

Sweet Lady is the last reported foal produced by Listed River Eden S. victrix and G2 May Hill S. runner-up High Heel Sneakers (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who also produced Listed Oaks Trial winner Toujours L'Amour (GB) (Authorized {Ire}). Sweet Lady's third dam Charmie Carmie (Lyphard) is the dam of MG1SW Peruvian champion Faaz (Fappiano) and her descendants also include G1 SA Fillies' Classic heroine Zaitoon (SAf) (Count Dubois {GB}). Charmie Carmie is kin to MGISW American Fillies' Triple Crown heroine Chris Evert (Swoon's Son), whose own descendants are headed by Belmont S.-winning sire Chief's Crown (Danzig), GI Frizette S. and GI Gazelle S. heroine Classic Crown (Mr. Prospector) and MGISW dual GI Beldame S. victrix Sightseek (Distant View). Charmie Carmie is also kin to stakes-winning GI Delaware Oaks third All Rainbows (Bold Hour), herself the dam of GI Kentucky Derby heroine and MGISW US champion Winning Colors (Caro {Ire}).
