Nature Strip Tops LWBRR With Life Is Good

Australian sprinting king Nature Strip (Aus) (Nicconi {Aus}) won the G1 T J Smith S. in Australia recently and moves to the top of the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings with a mark of 124 shared with GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational S. hero Life Is Good (Into Mischief).

Next on the rankings list is Speaker's Corner (Street Sense), the 4 1/2-length victor of the GI Carter H. at 123. Hong Kong superhorse Golden Sixty (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro) returned to the winner's circle in the G2 Chairman's Trophy S., and was given a mark of 122. A pair of U.S. runners sit just one point lower-G1 Dubai World Cup hero Country Grammer (Tonalist) and Saturday's GII Shakertown S. hero Golden Pal (Uncle Mo).

Five horses are a joint-seventh in the rankings at a mark of 120: $20-million G1 Saudi Cup hero Emblem Road (Quality Road), G1 Lightning S. hero Home Affairs (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}), G1 Dubai Sheema Classic victor Shahryar (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), G1 Queen Elizabeth S. scorer Think It Over (Aus) (So You Think {NZ}) and Zaaki (GB) (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}), who was second in the Queen Elizabeth. Gardiner-Hill Appointed Co-Chair of World’s Best Committee

Dominic Gardiner-Hill, Head of Handicapping for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), has succeeded Phil Smith as Co-Chairman of the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings Committee, announced during a meeting of the Executive Council of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) Mar. 29. The IFHA Executive Council unanimously endorsed Gardiner-Hill's nomination by the European Pattern Committee (EPC). He joins Nigel Gray as Co-Chairman of the Committee. Smith served as Co-Chairman since 2014.

Gardiner-Hill joined the BHA in 1993. After serving as the Deputy Head of Handicapping, Dominic took over as the BHA's Head of Handicapping in June 2018. He has been part of the International Classification and World Rankings Committees since 1996 as well as a member of the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings Executive Committee since 2018.

Classic Win Vaults Knicks Go To The Top Of LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings

After a dominant performance in the LONGINES Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), Knicks Go (USA) [128] stands alone at the top of the ninth edition of the LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings for 2021.

From the start, Knicks Go sprinted clear of his rivals in the Classic, eventually pulling away to a 2 ¾-length victory over Medina Spirit (USA) [123]. Essential Quality (USA) [122] was three-quarters of a length behind in third, while Hot Rod Charlie (USA) [121] finished fourth.

With his win in the Classic, Knicks Go improved his rating to 128 from 124. His other victories throughout the year include the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1), Whitney Stakes (G1), Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G3), and Lukas Classic Stakes (G3).

Another horse who improved his rating during the Breeders' Cup World Championships is Life Is Good (USA) [123]. His rating rose to 123 from 120 following his 5 ¾-length score in the Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1). Furthermore, Yibir (GB) [120] is newly ranked following his win in the LONGINES Breeders' Cup Turf (G1).

British Champions Day also played host to a number of memorable performances. Baaeed (GB) [124] is now co-seventh in the rankings following his performance in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1). The undefeated colt bested Palace Pier (GB) [125] by a neck to get the victory and raise his rating to 124 from 121. Additionally, Sealiway (FR) [123] finds himself ranked following his win in the Qipco Champion Stakes (G1). In that contest, he defeated Dubai Honour (IRE) [121], who is also now ranked, by three-quarters of a length.

In Japan, Efforia (JPN) [123] improved his rating to 123 from 120 by taking the Tenno Sho (Autumn) (G1) by a length over Contrail (JPN) [121]. Finishing a neck back in third was Gran Alegria (JPN) [121].

Meanwhile, several horses also put in impressive efforts this past month in Australia. Verry Elleegant (NZ) [122] is ranked following her four-length victory over Incentivise (AUS) [122] in the Lexus Melbourne Cup (G1), while State of Rest (IRE) [120] is ranked off of his win in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate (G1). Additionally, Masked Crusader (AUS) [122] is ranked following his game second to Nature Strip (AUS) [124] in the Tab Everest.

Torquator Tasso Climbs The Ladder in Longines WBRR

By virtue of his stunning upset in the G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp Oct. 3, Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) now shares fourth position with Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) in the latest Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings, which were published Oct. 14.

The Marcel Weiss-trained 4-year-old was given a rating of 125 for his 71-1 upset of Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal) (120) in the Paris feature. Farther behind in third was Godolphin's G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 St Leger hero Hurricane Lane (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), who sits on 123, while his G1 Cazoo Derby and G1 King George & Queen Elizabeth S.-winning stablemate Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) was three lengths adrift in fourth. On 127, Adayar remains the joint-highest ranking horse on the WBRR alongside Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB})–whom he is set to face in Saturday's G1 QIPCO Champion S. at Ascot–and St Mark's Basilica (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}).

Trueshan (Fr) (Planteur {Ire}) got underfoot conditions to suit in the Oct. 2 Qatar Prix du Cadran and easily defeated Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) to be newly rated on 120 in the WBRR. The two rivals are drawn alongside each other in barriers nine and 10 for Satuday's G2 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup over two miles.

Knicks Go (Paynter), who will vie for favoritism in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic Nov. 6, remains the top-rated American galloper on 124–tied for sixth with Nature Strip (Aus) (Nicconi {Aus})–and is one point superior to GI Kentucky Derby first past the post Medina Spirit (Protonico), who is ranked 123 following a comprehensive defeat of his elders in the GI Awesome Again S. at Santa Anita Oct. 2. Hot Rod Charlie (Oxbow) has been assigned a rating of 121 for his victory over Midnight Bourbon (Tiznow) in the GI Pennsylvania Derby Sept. 25.

The next edition of the Longines WBRR is due Thursday, Nov. 11.
