The upcoming week in North American horse racing promises plenty of excitement, with graded stakes scheduled at Saratoga Race Course each day from Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4, the induction of a fine 2024 class to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 2, and the pièce de résistance, the $1 million, Grade 1 Whitney Stakes, set for Saturday, Aug. 3.

Finalists Announced for 2023 Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award
A trio of finalists have been selected from an incredibly strong slate of entries for the 19th annual Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award. These represent the captivating tales of a dynastic racing family; a long-ago racehorse and stallion who left an indelible stamp on Americaās Thoroughbred industry; and of a legendary 19th century black jockey ā all penned by authors of remarkable talent.
One Manās Effort and a Louisiana Return for Lecomte
Ten years ago, Ron Schneider began a quest to find Henri Delattreās (1801-1876) oil painting of the celebrated Thoroughbred Lecomte.Ā As the curator at the Old Lecompte High School and Museum in Lecompte, La., the painting enticed him. He would be reminded each time he saw the horseās image, which figures prominently on the central Louisiana townās official flag as well as the high schoolās yearbook.
Todd Gralla, Principal at Populous, Keynote Speaker for Aug. 1 Round Table Conference
The Jockey Club announced July 24 the speakers for its 72nd Annual Round Table Conference on Matters Pertaining to Racing to be held Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. ET at the Excelsior Springs Event Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.Ā It will also be livestreamed on The Jockey Club's websiteĀ jockeyclub.com. Stuart Janney III, chairman of The Jockey Club, will preside over the conference.
