WinStar Farm Open House Dates Scheduled For Jan. 7-11

WinStar Farm will host an Open House for breeders from Sunday, Jan. 7 through Thursday, Jan. 11, between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET. each day, the farm said in a release Friday.

The open houses will be held at the farm's stallion complex on Paynes Mill Road in Versailles, Kentucky. Visitors are welcome without an appointment to view the WinStar roster for the 2024 season, led by Constitution ($110,000 S&N) and Life Is Good ($85,000 S&N).

Breeders will also be able to see WinStar's newest additions for 2024: Country Grammer ($10,000 S&N) and Two Phil's ($12,500 S&N).

The open house events will include lite fare and refreshments for those in attendance.

Mt. Brilliant Family Foundation Sponsors TCA’s Stallion Season Auction Again

The Mt. Brilliant Family Foundation has signed on once again as the presenting sponsor for the Thoroughbred Charities of America's upcoming 34th Annual Stallion Season Auction to be held Wednesday, Jan. 3 through Sunday, Jan. 7, the non-profit said in a release Friday.

“We greatly appreciate the continued support of Mt. Brilliant,” said Erin Halliwell executive director of TCA. “The Stallion Season Auction is vital to our organization as it allows us to make grants to qualified organizations across the country. Mt. Brilliant's support of the auction and TCA are a testament to their strong commitment to our mission of assisting Thoroughbreds and those who care for them.”

The online version of the auction opens at 9 a.m. ET Jan. 3, runs through 4 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 5 and will offer nearly 200 seasons to stallions standing in 14 states and Canada.

While the majority will be offered during the online auction, several seasons will be sold in the live event on Sunday, Jan. 7 at Harper Hall in Lexington, Kentucky. Those include Cody's Wish, Elite Power, Life is Good, Constitution, Nyquist, Quality Road, Flightline, Forte, Good Magic and Taiba.

Bidders or their authorized agents may attend the live auction or they can email ehalliwell@tca.org to register online or by telephone. A silent auction will also be offered. All non-season items will be available via online bidding.

Curlin’s Rocketeer Wins Nicely In Keeneland Debut

ROCKETEER (c, 2, Curlin–Thirteen Arrows {MSW, $277,375}, by Indian Charlie) went off at 3-1 in this debut spot and was forwardly placed just off pacesetting World Fair (Tapiture). The top pair moved through opening fractions of :22.97 and :46.63 before Rocketeer made his run to strike the front with an outside move passing the quarter pole. The class of the field in the run to the wire, the Brad Cox trainee cruised home to win by four lengths over 25-1 longshot D Day Sky (Omaha Bech). $1.5m yearling Stop the Press (Uncle Mo) was never a factor after a slow beginning and came home sixth. Thirteen Arrows, a $575,000 broodmare purchase out the 2016 FTKNOV sale, is a half-sister to GISW and sire Cross Traffic (Unbridled's Song) and also to the dam of SW/MGISP Gulfport (Uncle Mo). Her Into Mischief yearling colt brought a final bid of $525,000 from Repole Stable at this year's KEESEP sale and she reported a filly by the same stallion this Spring before visiting Life Is Good for 2024.
