Lastotchka Purchased By Australian Bloodstock With Melbourne Cup Aim

Multiple Group 3 winner Lastotchka (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) has been purchased by Australian Bloodstock and is under consideration for the G1 Melbourne Cup in November.

The 4-year-old filly most recently won the G3 Prix Gladiateur at ParisLongchamp earlier this month. She was raced by Ecurie Noel Forgeard, Pierre Bonnier, Earl Touchstone, Charles-Henri Bonnier and Philippe Stein prior to her acquisition. The daughter of Muthla (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}) won the G3 Prix Belle de Nuit earlier in her career.

“We completed the deal last night,” Jamie Lovett of Australian Bloodstock told Racing.com on Wednesday.

“There's a few things to play out so we are leaving her in in Chantilly for more scans at the moment. She's passed the RV (Racing Victoria) trot-up and they've seen the X-rays so far.”

Of the former Jean-Marie Beguigne trainee's appeal, Lovett added, “We really liked the form. The thing that ticked the last box was that she's obviously won at a mile and a half but interestingly enough her two Group 3 wins were at 2800 metres and 3100 metres.

“She's bought for that race and she's come in with 51kgs. She's also good residual value as a multiple Group 3 winner with a lovely pedigree.”

Australian Bloodstock won the 2022 Melbourne Cup with Gold Trip (Fr) (Outstrip {GB}), and he is currently top weight for the two-mile prize when the weights were released on Tuesday.

Myboycharlie’s Lastotchka Slays Gladiateur Rivals

In the money in three stakes outings since closing last term with a career high in Saint-Cloud's G3 Prix Belle de Nuit, Jean-Marie Beguigne trainee Lastotchka (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}–Muthla {Fr}, by Muhtathir {GB}) regained the winning thread and doubled her pattern-race haul by dominating the closing stages of Sunday's G3 Prix Gladiateur at ParisLongchamp.

The 16-5 chance was quickly into stride to race second passing the judge first time and found a comfortable rhythm in third along the backstraight. Taking closer order on the home turn before claiming the lead in early straight, she was safely clear approaching the final furlong and stayed on strongly under continued rousting to easily hold closest pursuer Fasol (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) by two lengths. Vert Liberte (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}) was 1 3/4 lengths away in third, denying Moon Wolf (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) by a nose in a bobbing finish for third. According to jockey Theo Bachelot, Lastotchka lost her off fore shoe soon after the start.

“She is such a sweet and consistent filly, she stays well and proved it on many occasions last season, such as when winning a Group 3 over 14 furlongs at Saint-Cloud,” said Beguigne. “She has been a bit slow to come around and be at her best this season, but her last run in Deauville did her a lot of good. I will let her recover from her efforts today and have her ready again for the [Oct. 29] G1 Prix Royal-Oak [over this course and distance].”

Pedigree Notes
Lastotchka, a half-sister to the unraced 2-year-old colt Majestic Glory (Fr) (Olympic Glory {Ire}), is the first foal out of Muthla (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}), whose second dam Colza (Alleged) produced G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero Linda's Lad (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and G3 Badener Meile placegetter Ulterior Motives (GB) (Selkirk). Descendants of the April-foaled bay's stakes-winning fourth dam Dockage (Riverman) include G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-winning sire Rail Link (GB) (Dansili {GB}), Rail Link's G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris-winning half-brother Crossharbour (GB) (Zamindar) and G1 Derby, G1 St Leger and G1 Gold Cup runner-up Mojo Star (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}).

Group Winners Lastotchka and Speirling Beag Entered In Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale

New group winners Lastotchka (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}–Muthla {Fr}, by Muhtathir {GB}) and Speirling Beag (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}–Starscape {Ire}, by Cape Cross {Ire}) have been added to the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale catalogue. They are set to sell during the opening session in Deauville on Dec. 3.

Saturday's G3 Prix Belle de Nuit heroine Lastotchka races for Ecurie Noel Forgeard, P Bonnier et. al. and Jean-Marie Beguigne and was already a winner of the Listed Prix de Thiberville earlier this year. Bred by Ecurie Touchstone, she was second to 'TDN Rising Star' Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G2 Prix de Malleret in July, two starts prior to her Belle de Nuit score. The April foal is from the same family as G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero Linda's Lad (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Rail Link (GB) (Dansili {GB}).

Ennistown Stud's homebred Speirling Beag graduated at Gowan in September and was third in the G3 Staffordstown Stud S. at the Curragh on Oct. 8. She was game in Leopardtown's G3 Eyrefield S. on Saturday, winning by a short head over Hiawatha (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). Her second dam is a full-sister dual Group 2 winner Land Of Dreams (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}), herself the dam of crack sprinter, quintuple Group 1 winner and Group 1 sire Dream Ahead (Diktat {GB}).

Slated for Dec. 3-6, the sale's catalogue will be published on Oct. 31.
