Lady Prancealot to Keeneland November

Lady Prancealot (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}), winner of the GI American Oaks and two other graded stakes, will be offered at the upcoming Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in Book 1. Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, will consign her as a racing or broodmare prospect.

“Lady Prancealot represents a great opportunity to race or breed in 2021,” said Mark Taylor, Taylor Made’s Vice President of Marketing and Public Sales Operations. “Her race potential speaks for itself, and her female family has been consistently producing top-class horses on both sides of the Atlantic for the last 50 years.”

In addition to her American Oaks win, the 4-year-old mare also captured the GIII Honeymoon S. and the GIII Pin Oak Valley View S. last year. Last seen when third in the GI Rodeo Drive S. Sept. 26, she has also placed in the GI Del Mar Oaks and three other graded black-type affairs. After beginning her career in England, Lady Prancealot moved stateside and has been under the tutelage of trainer Richard Baltas for the partnership of Medallion Racing, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Craig and Josie Arntz, Donald Durando, Jules and Michael Iavarone, and Jerry McClanahan.

“What differentiates her is she has an explosive turn of foot,” Michael Iavarone said. “I love horses that have that style. You think she has no chance, and all of a sudden here she comes out of nowhere. Horses like that really make the heart beat. They’re really exciting. She never not shows up. She puts in her run every single time.”

Although Lady Prancealot sports an international pedigree, with her dam being a half-sister to European GSW and G1SP Baqah (Ire) (Bahhare), her fourth dam is Eclipse Champion 2-year-old filly and Breeders’ Cup winner Brave Raj (Rajab).

Lady Prancealot Holds Slight Edge in Rodeo Drive

Saturday’s GI Rodeo Drive S. at Santa Anita offers the winner an all-expenses-paid trip to the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland Nov. 7, and Lady Prancealot (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) figures a slight favorite against six familiar faces.

Winner of the GI American Oaks over this course and distance last December, Lady Prancealot has done her California-based shuttle stallion proud this season, despite not having her picture taken. Fourth to the in-form Keeper Ofthe Stars (Midnight Lute) in the GII Buena Vista S. over a mile trip that is short of her best in February, she was fifth to that rival in the GI Gamely S. in May. A troubled fourth to Bodhicitta (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) in the GI Yellow Ribbon H. at Del Mar Aug. 8, she finished fast to just miss in the GII John C. Mabee S. Sept. 5. Umberto Rispoli, who rode for the first time in the Mabee, has the return call.

Rispoli was just outfinished in the Del Mar jockeys’ premiership by Flavien Prat, and the Frenchman goes in search of his fourth win in five starts atop Bodhicitta. An allowance winner over a mile of this turf course Mar. 8, the chestnut attacked the line to be second in the Gamely and outfinished Tonahutu (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) in the Yellow Ribbon. The latter has since added a handy allowance victory at the seaside Sept. 5.

The visiting Luis Saez picks up the mount on Maxim Rate (Exchange Rate), who was guided by Rispoli to an allowance defeat of Tonahutu at Del Mar July 10 ahead of a neck success in the CTT & TOC S. over 11 furlongs at Del Mar Aug. 16.

Lady Prancealot, Bodhicitta Give Baltas Strong Hand In Rodeo Drive Stakes

Blessed with a pair of talented turf distaffers, trainer Richard Baltas has a big look at Saturday's Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., as his Lady Prancealot, a fast-closing second in her most recent start, has solid distance credentials, while his Bodhicitta is in top form although distance may be a question.

For fillies and mares three and up going a mile and one quarter on turf, Saturday's $300,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes has attracted a competitive field of seven fillies and mares.

A winner of the G1 American Oaks in her only try at the Rodeo Drive distance five starts back on Dec. 28, Lady Prancealot, a 4-year-old Irish-bred filly, is winless in four graded stakes this year, but she flew late to be beaten a diminishing neck at a mile and one eighth on turf Sept. 5 and merits top billing.

With Umberto Rispoli back aboard Lady Prancealot and Flavien Prat with Bodhicitta, these two ultra-talented reinsmen will most certainly renew their rivalry that resulted in Prat taking a 50-49 photo finish for leading rider honors at the recently concluded Del Mar meeting.

The Rodeo Drive is a Breeders' Cup “Win & You're In” Breeders' Cup Challenge Race qualifier, with the winner to receive a fees-paid berth into the G1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland on Nov. 7.

LADY PRANCEALOT
Owner:  Jerry McClanahan, Michael Iavarone, Parkland Thoughbreds, et al
Trainer:  Richard Baltas

A winner of three graded stakes in 16 stateside starts for Baltas, she has been close in nearly all of her races while amassing earnings of $604,841 from an overall mark of 21-5-5-3.  With turf master Rispoli back aboard, look for Irish-bred Lady Prancealot to be on the move the final eighth of a mile.

BODHICITTA
Owner:  Calvin Nguyen
Trainer:  Richard Baltas

A game nose winner of the G2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf Aug. 8, this 4-year-old English-bred filly has won three out of her last four starts, all with Prat aboard.  Second, beaten 1 ¼ lengths in the G1 Gamely Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf two starts back, she'll try a mile and one quarter for the first time in what will be her 16th career start.  With four wins, as many seconds and one third place finish, she has earnings of $265,808.

MAXIM RATE
Owner:  Slam Dunk Racing & James D. Branham
Trainer:  Simon Callaghan

A winner of two consecutive turf routes at Del Mar, the most recent a neck victory in the CTT & TOC Stakes at 1 3/8 miles on Aug. 16, she brings a solid recent record to the Rodeo Drive party but she'll be facing tougher.  Ridden by Rispoli in her last two starts, she'll get the services of eastern-based Luis Saez, as Rispoli appears to have opted for Lady Prancealot.  A G3 winner going a mile on turf at age three, her mile and three eighths win on Aug. 16 lends added encouragement at the Rodeo Drive distance.

Frontrunning Raymundos Secret Just Lasts In John C. Mabee

Going straight to the front at the outset under Flavien Prat and setting all the fractions, Sierra Racing and Sterling Stables LLC's Raymundos Secret reached the wire just in time to hold off a fast-finishing Lady Prancealot and Umberto Rispoli to win Saturday's Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar near San Diego, Calif., by a nose.

Catch the Eye was third and Zee Drop fourth in the field of eight fillies and mares going nine furlongs on turf. Raymundos Secret was timed in 1:48.60 on firm turf after fractions of :24.87, :48.60, 1:12.52 and 1:36.16 were posted.

Raymundos Secret was favored at 7-5 with Lady Prancealot the 8-5 second choice.

The victory was Prat's fourth of the afternoon, giving him 46 for the summer session in 25 days of racing. Rispoli, who was blanked on Saturday, has 45.

“The plan wasn't necessarily to go to the front; just to break her out of there and see what happens,” said Prat. “She broke super sharp and we were on the lead. From there I just tried to get her to relax and to slow it down as best as I could. Then when we went for home, she gave me a good kick. She just had enough at the end.”

The Mabee was Prat's 13th stakes success of the meet, equaling the record number set by Rafael Bejarano in 2012.

“It's a good accomplishment. I'm glad for it. I'm hoping I've got one or two more before we're done here, too.”

Trained by Phil D'Amato, Raymundos Secret earned her first black-type win in the Mabee and fifth win overall in seven starts. Bred in Florida by Edward Seltzer, Beverly Anderson and Joseph Barbazon, Raymundos Secret was produced from the Greatness mare, Paulette Caveat.
