Sea The Moon’s Wonderful Boy Outclasses Rivals In Krefeld Feature

Markus Klug trainee Wonderful Boy (Ger) (Sea The Moon {Ger}–Wonderful Gorl {Ger}, by Areion {Ger}), who was last seen shedding maiden status at Cologne in September, stamped his authority on Sunday's G3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld and hit the line with a wide-margin buffer for a career high in the 8 1/2-furlong test.

The 17-5 chance, who had earlier poster an Aug. 26 debut third at Baden-Baden, was swiftly into stride from the inside stall and claimed an immediate lead. Allowed an inch of rein soon after turning for home, he was beyond recall approaching the final furlong and geared down in the closing stages to easily outclass Novemberrose (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) by 10 lengths. Gestut Park Wiedingen's 13-5 favourite. Flamingo Moon (Ger) (Sea The Moon {Ger}) was unable to land any kind of blow and finished 16 lengths adrift in third.

“I was hoping to be placed and am a bit surprised just how well he ran,” said winning rider Andrasch Starke. “He worked well enough at home, but not to suggest this kind of performance. He is still developing and, on this heavy going, he ran like a really good horse. He was quite keen in the early stages, but then settled well and eventually responded beautifully. I always thought he was a horse for next year and I think we can really look forward to 2024 with him.”

Pedigree Notes
Wonderful Boy, who becomes the 18th pattern-race winner for his sire, is the lone reported foal produced by Listed Grosser Soldier Hollow Preis runner-up Wonderful Gorl (Ger) (Areion {Ger}), herself kin to MGSW G2 Union-Rennen victor Wonderful Moon (Ger) (Sea The Moon {Ger}). The March-foaled chestnut's third dam Wonderful World (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}), who produced G3 Prix Chloe victrix Wunder (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}), is a full-sister to three black-type winners headed by MGSP Listed Gran Premio d'Italia victor Winning Dash (Ger). His fourth dam Wonderful Lady (Ger) (Surumu {Ger}) ran third in the G2 German 1000 Guineas and is kin to the stakes-winning G1 Deutsches Derby runner-up Winwood (Ger) (Surumu {Ger}).

Sioux Nation’s Brave Emperor Best In Krefeld Test

Giving up a berth in the Kentucky Derby, connections of Brave Emperor (Ire) (Sioux Nation–Roman Gal {Ire}, by Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) took to the contrasting scene of Krefeld on Friday to garner the G3 Dr Busch-Memorial with their upwardly-mobile campaigner. Winning had become a habit for Middleham Park's flag-bearer last term and Cagnes-Sur-Mer's Listed Prix de la Californie was added to his resume after he took to the Polytrack there like a duck to water in February. Again on top in Kempton's “Road To The Kentucky Derby” Conditions S. the following month, the bay had been caught late by Bold Act (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) in the Woodford Reserve Cardinal Conditions S. which continued that series at Chelmsford at the start of this month. Bounced out to lead by Luke Morris, the 7-5 favourite gave generously in typical fashion to assert his superiority from the top of the straight and score by 2 1/2 lengths from the G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten third Arcandi (Ger) (Zarak {Fr}).

Pedigree Notes

Brave Emperor is the first foal out of Roman Gal, a half-sister to the Listed Buckhounds S. winner and G1 Coronation Cup runner-up Salouen (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}). From the family of the G1 Lockinge S. hero Keltos (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}) and fellow sire Loxias (Fr) (Saumarez {GB}), her 2-year-old filly by Inns Of Court (Ire) is named Puella Law (Ire).

One-Time KY Derby Hopeful Brave Emperor To Race In Germany Next

Brave Emperor (Ire) (Sioux Nation) will travel to Germany for the G3 Dr Busch Memorial at Krefeld on Apr. 28, according to Middleham Park Racing's Tom Palin.

The listed winner, who was previously under consideration for the GI Kentucky Derby on May 6, ran second in the Woodford Reserve Cardinal Conditions S. when last seen on Apr. 1.

“He is on his travels, he's going to go to Germany for a Group 3 on Apr. 28 [Krefeld, Dr Busch Memorial], that's where he'll run next,” said Palin. “He's got no penalties. He has won a listed race but he's picked up novices, handicaps and conditions races so for a serial winner like him he doesn't have penalties so we can pick and choose. He should be rocking up at all the big meetings, Royal Ascot, Goodwood, so we'll hopefully have a good summer with him.

“Trip-wise, 10 furlongs might be a question mark, but certainly nine furlongs we are of the opinion is no problem, it is almost nine furlongs in Germany and we're confident about that.

“I can't see why he wouldn't see 10 out in the future. We could maybe think about something like the [G3] Hampton Court [S.] at Ascot [in June].”

Mylady A Group First For The Grey Gatsby at Krefeld

Gestut Karlshof's spayed 3-year-old filly Mylady (Ger) (The Grey Gatsby {Ire}), who backed up an Aug. 22 debut win at Mulheim with a narrow score in Dusseldorf's Sept. 12 Listed Junioren-Preis, maintained her perfect record and went three-for-three in Sunday's G3 Dr Busch Memorial at Krefeld. The homebred grey, sent postward as the 11-5 favourite, was bustled along from the gates to remain in touch with the pack through the initial strides of this 8 1/2-furlong test. Angled wide for a clear passage in the straight, she quickened in impressive fashion to poach a decisive advantage approaching the final furlong and kept on strongly, despite rolling around in front, to hold the late surge of Schwarzer Peter (Ger) (Neatico {Ger}) by a neck, the pair four lengths clear of the remainder.

Mylady, who becomes the first pattern-race winner for her second-crop sire (by Mastercraftsman {Ire}), is the first of two foals produced by Minoris (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}), herself an unraced daughter of Monspa (GB) (Monsun {Ger}). Monspa, in turn, is kin to Listed Hampton Court S. victor and G2 Hardwicke S. third Persian Majesty (Ire) (Grand Lodge). Mylady's third dam Spa (GB) (Sadler's Wells) also produced Spasha (GB) (Shamardal), whose trio of stakes winners is headed by G1 Diamond Jubilee S. and G1 Sprint Cup hero Hello Youmzain (Fr) (Kodiac {GB}) and G2 Gran Criterium victor Royal Youmzain (Fr) (Youmzain {Ire}). Mylady's fourth dam is G3 Lancashire Oaks victrix Sandy Island (GB) (Mill Reef), herself kin to runaway G1 Epsom Derby-winning sire Slip Anchor (GB) (Shirley Heights {GB}). Sandy Island's descendants also include G1 Sisterna S. victor Summer Passage (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}), with this being the dam line of legendary racemare and producer Schwarzgold (Ger) (Alchimist {Ger}). The winner's dam has 2-year-old colt by Counterattack (Aus) to come.
