ADVANCE PHAROAH (c, 2, American Pharoah–Fair Huntress, by Tiznow) turned in a promising debut when runner-up going seven furlongs at Tokyo June 19 (see below, SC 12) and has every right to improve for the effort. A $140,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by trainer Hideyuki Mori, the chestnut is out of an unraced half-sister to Grade III winner Devil By Design (Medaglia d'Oro), the dam of GI American Oaks winner Competitionofideas (Speightstown), who was purchased by Shadai Farm for $1.3 million at Fasig-Tipton November in 2020. ART PEPPER (c, 2, Frosted–Tim's Girl, by Broken Vow) appeared not to handle the turf when finishing well down the field on career debut June 12 and connections will be hoping a switch to the main track will do the trick here. Purchased by Mori for $150,000 at KEESEP last fall, the gray is out of a daughter of the stakes-winning Rich Find (Exploit), whose daughter Heavenly Hellos (Overanalyze) recently took out the Horseshoe Indianapolis S. Rich Find was also responsible for Grade I-placed juvenile filly Broken Spell (Broken Vow), herself the dam of SW Lord Dragon (Oxbow). A $150K Keeneland September purchase by the Maeda family's North Hills, the bay–who celebrates her calendar birthday Saturday–is out of the 2016 G1 Cheveley Park Stud S. heroine Brave Anna, one of two $3-million purchases by Masahiro Miki at Fasig-Tipton November last fall when offered in foal to Quality Road. BEAT EMOTION (c, 3, Quality Road–J. Quirk, by Unbridled's Song), a half-brother to 2021 GIII Remington Park Oaks victress Lady Mystify (Bernardnini), fetched $190K at KEESEP in 2021 and was resold to prominent owner Yuji Hasegawa for $600K at FTFMAR last year after breezing a furlong in :10 2/5 (see below). The colt's third dam is Cee's Song (Seattle Song), whose produce include Horse of the Year/MGISW Tiznow, MGSW & MGISP Budroyale and GSW Tizdubai. J. 10th-HSN, ¥35,040,000 ($302k), Allowance, 3yo/up, 2000mT
AIR SAGE (c, 4, Point of Entry–Nokaze, by Empire Maker) won three of his first four starts at three, including a tough front-running score in a 13-furlong allowance at Sapporo in August (see below, SC 4) that led to a respectable eighth in the G1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) in October. The half-brother to GSW Air Almas (Majestic Warrior) was produced by a half-sister to the dam of GSP Yuugiri (Shackleford), who is gearing up for her sophomore debut in the near future. A half-sister to treble GSW–a pair on turf and another in the slop– Tricky Escape (Hat Trick {Jpn}), the February-foaled bay hails from the extended female family of GISW Awesome Humor (Distorted Humor). The colt's stakes-winning third dam Regal Pennant (Banner Bob) dropped GSW Regally Appealing (Valid Appeal); SW Regal Miss Copelan (Copelan), the dam of MGSW Rockport Harbor (Unbridled's Song); and SP Patti's Regal Song (Unbridled's Song), dam of recent GI CCA Oaks victress Maracuja (Honor Code). KIMIKOSO SHACHO (c, 2, Arrogate–Delicate Lady, by Thunder Gulch), whose dam was third in the 2015 GII Adirondack S., was offered in utero at Fasig-Tipton November in 2018, but was bought back when bidding stalled out at $225,000. Purchased by Mori for $200,000 at KEESEP last fall, the gray colt descends from the female family of SW Pistols Drawn (First Defence) from the same Unbridled's Song sire line, and GISW A Wild Ride (Wild Again). A $150,000 Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Showcase graduate, Pink Dia is bred like GISW Lexitonian and looks to become his sire's 34th Japanese winner from 39 starters. B-Robert Schaedle (KY)

Connections thought enough of $190,000 OBSMAR graduate DUGAT (c, 2, Practical Joke–Untraveled, by Canadian Frontier) to pitch him in over his conditions on debut and he gave a promising account of himself in finishing a well-backed third, beaten just three lengths, in dreadful conditions (see below, gate 10). The Mar. 31 foal, from the family of champion GSW/MG1SP Green Perfume (Naevus), is a candidate to appreciate a sounder surface this weekend and Yutaka Take has the return riding assignment. A $35K Keeneland September graduate, the late April foal fetched $70K from trainer Hideyuki Mori in a private sale after breezing a quarter-mile in :22 2/5. OKAMMO SCHACHO (f, 2, Lord Nelson–Appealing Stella, by Closing Argument) becomes the first local starter for her well-regarded first-crop sire (by Pulpit). The Florida-bred, a $52K acquisition out of last year's OBS October Sale, was another of trainer Mori's eight OBSMAR purchases, hammering for $170K after working a furlong in :10 flat. The Florida-bred's stakes winning dam is also responsible for OBS grad Isshin (Take Charge Indy), a three-time winner and $400K earner in Japan. B-Cindy & Bill Nassal (FL)

SUETONIUS (c, 2, Carpe Diem–Dance With Kitten, by Kitten's Joy) is the second for to the races from his dam, a winning full-sister to the classy MGISW Divisidero, who was acquired by Shadai Farm in 2017.
