Kodiac Leads Tally-Ho Roster

Kodiac (GB) (Danehill) leads the seven-strong roster at Tally-Ho Stud at an unchanged fee of €65,000 in 2022. Responsible for 13 black-type winners in 2021, the 20-year-old's progeny enjoyed Group 1 success with G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero El Bodegon (Ire) and G1 Commonwealth Cup heroine Campanelle (Ire). Also among his group winners this term are Cloudy Dawn (Ire), American Bridge (GB), Bear Story (Ire), Glounthaune (Ire) and Fast Attack (Ire).

Priced at €50,000, Mehmas (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who was the Champion First-Season Sire in Europe in 2022, celebrated 11 black-type winners and is firmly on top of the European Second-Season Sire list. The sire of his second overall Group 1 winner in 2021 GI Del Mar Oaks heroine Going Global (Ire), he stood for €25,000 this year. Four of his seven 2021 group winners were from his second crop of juveniles headed by dual Group 2 winner Lusail (Ire), G2 Flying Childers S. victor Caturra (Ire), and G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte heroine Malavath (Ire), who also ran second in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Acklam Express (Ire) and Minzaal (Ire), from his first crop, were also Group 1 placed in Dubai and in the G1 British Champions Sprint S., respectively.

Previously announced as a new addition to the roster, Group 1 winner Starman (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) will command €17,500. The G1 July Cup hero also placed in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and G1 Sprint Cup.

A pair of Tally-Ho stallions will have their first crop of 3-year-olds in 2022 in Cotai Glory (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) at €8,500 and Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) at €7,000. The former's best runner to date has been G2 Prix Robert Papin and G3 Prix du Bois scorer Atomic Force (Ire), while Purciaretta (Ire) landed a listed race. Eldrickjones (Ire) ran second in the G2 Coventry S. and Pearl Glory (Ire) was runner-up in the G3 Dick Poole S. G1 Phoenix S. hero Ebro River (Ire) is one of three black-type winners for Galileo Gold, who is also the sire of Group 3 winner Oscula (Ire), third in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, and Listed Empress S. heroine System (Ire).

Completing the roster are the duo of Inns of Court (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Kessaar (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who will both stand for €5,000. Successful four times at group level and dual Group 1 placed, Inns of Court's first foals are selling at the breeding stock sales beginning this month. Kessaar, the winner of the G2 Mill Reef S. and G3 Sirenia S., will have his first runners in 2022.

Ardad Boosted to £12,500 For 2022

Ardad (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who is one of the leading European-based first-season sires, will stand for an increased fee of £12,500 SLF at Overbury Stud in 2022.

Already the sire of G1 Middle Park S., G1 Prix Morny, and G2 Norfolk S. winner Perfect Power (Ire), the bay's 2021 fee was £4,000. Other high class runners for Ardad are G3 Sirenia S. heroine Eve Lodge (GB), who is one of 21 winners by the 7-year-old, and G2 Coventry S. third Vintage Clarets (GB). Ardad also had 12 winners prior to Royal Ascot, a record for a British freshman sire. This year he bred 156 mares, and at the 2021 yearling sales, he boasts a 100% clearance rate for 30 sold from 30 offered. They averaged £56,000 and his highest price was 190,000gns.

Simon Sweeting, Overbury Stud Manager, said, “Ardad is proving to be a most unusual stallion, fully capable of passing on not only his powerful good looks and movement but also his laid back and charming temperament. He's already proved himself to be a notable source of Royal Ascot 2-year-olds and sales stock, and we're really looking forward to seeing what the future brings. His stud career could certainly scarcely have started any better.”

Kodiac’s El Bodegon In Group 1 Breakthrough

Already well-acquainted with France, with two prior visits culminating in a success in the nine-furlong G3 Prix de Conde at Chantilly Sept. 29, Nas Syndicate and Anne O'Callaghan's El Bodegon (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) made all to collect in Saturday's G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. Providing up-and-coming trainer James Ferguson with a first top-level win in the process, the 9-1 shot dominated the mile-and-a-quarter contest under 2021's supersub jockey Ioritz Mendizabal and after shaking off the threat of Goldspur (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in early straight hit the line with 1 1/2 lengths to spare over Ballydoyle's Stone Age (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The 7-5 favourite Goldspur held on for third, 1 1/4 lengths away.

Kodiac’s Glounthaune Takes The Killavullan

While Aidan O'Brien was drawing a blank at Ascot, the stable was celebrating a 13th winner of Leopardstown's G3 Richmond Homes Killavullan S. on Saturday as Glounthaune (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) came forward from his sixth placing in Saturday's G1 Dewhurst S. Having only his second start in that Newmarket feature and his first since his winning debut at The Curragh Apr. 17, the 5-1 shot who sports the Evie Stockwell silks was settled behind the leading trio early by Seamie Heffernan and worked his way to the front with 100 yards remaining. Battling from there, he recorded a half-length verdict over Pennine Hills (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), with the same margin back to I Am Magic (Ire) (Magician {Ire}) in third. The race's hard-luck story was the Bolger representative Boundless Ocean (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), who finished a head further back in fourth but would almost certainly have been involved in the finish having been stopped in his run a furlong out.

“He's a very big colt by Kodiac who was an impressive winner, but then went a bit weak and missed a lot of time,” Heffernan said. “His work was nice going to the Dewhurst and he ran well without being placed. He came out of it fresh and Aidan was happy enough to let him take his chance today. He said that he'd improved and I was delighted to put on these colours which have been very lucky for me. I've been a little bit disappointed with some of ours lately, so I'd say this fella has loads to come and probably did well to win today. He showed a strong will and won well at the line. He has a bit of class and I think a mile is his trip.”

On a day when his relative Eshaada (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}) captured the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S., Glounthaune is out of the unraced Khaimah (GB) (Nayef) who is linked to that Ascot heroine through her dam Thamarat (GB) (Anabaa). Third in the Listed Prix Yacowlef, she was responsible for the Listed Grand Prix de Compiegne winner and G1 Prix du Jockey Club third Motamarris (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) and is also the second dam of the G3 Prix de Cabourg winner Tantheem (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) and last year's G1 Irish Derby hero Santiago (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}) as well as the G1 Yorkshire Oaks and G1 Prix Vermeille third La Joconde (Ire) (Frankel {GB}).

Thamarat is a half-sister to the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and G1 Prix Jean Prat-winning sire Tamayuz (GB) and to Eshaada's dam Muhawalah (Ire) by Tamayuz's sire Nayef. The fourth dam Allez les Trois (Riverman), who is the G3 Prix de Flore winner who produced the G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero Anabaa Blue (GB) by Thamarat's sire, is kin to the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine and stellar producer Urban Sea (Miswaki) and to the G1 2000 Guineas hero and successful sire King's Best. Less than two weeks after the victory of the family's Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) in the Arc, Glounthaune was doing his bit to extend the mighty influence of this clan. Khaimah also has a filly foal by Inns of Court (Ire).
