Knicks Go To Begin at $30K at Taylor Made

Knicks Go (Paynter), who capped what is likely to be a Horse of the Year campaign with a front-running victory in the GI Longines Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar Nov. 6, will enter stud at Taylor Made Stallions in 2022 for an introductory fee of $30,000, the farm announced Wednesday.

The Maryland-bred, owned by the Korea Racing Authority and trained by Brad Cox, finished his 5-year-old season on four-race winning streak and won five of his seven starts overall, including the prestigious GI Whitney S. at Saratoga by 4 1/2 lengths Aug. 7. He prepped for the Classic with a facile success in the GIII Lukas Classic at Churchill Downs and was registering his second Breeders' Cup victory over the weekend, having scored by 3 1/2 lengths in the GI Dirt Mile in 2020. His final time in the Classic of 1:59.57 nearly broke the Del Mar track record held by Candy Ride (Arg) and was the fastest recorded on dirt since Ghostzapper in 2004. With a potential career finale in defense of his title in the GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational in late January, Knicks Go has amassed a record of 24-10-3-1 and earnings of $8,673,135.

Leading second-crop sire Not This Time (Giant's Causeway) will stand for $45,000 next season on the back of an outstanding year at the races. In 2021, the son of Miss Macy Sue (Trippi) has accounted for no fewer than 11 black-type winners, five more than his nearest rival, and has been represented by a pair of graded winners–Yes This Time and Easy Time. Mongolian Changa (Brilliant Speed), the dam of GI Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit (Protonico), sold in foal to Not This Time for $1.05 million at Fasig-Tipton November Tuesday evening.

The newest addition to the Taylor Made roster, Tacitus (Tapit), will command a first-year covering fee of $10,000.

Not This Time (Giant's Causeway), $45,000

Knicks Go (Paynter), $30,000

Tacitus (Tapit), $10,000

Instagrand (Into Mischief), $7,500

Instilled Regard (Arch), $7,500

Midnight Storm (Pioneerof the Nile), $7,500

Mshawish (Medaglia d'Oro), $5,000

Knicks Go’s Stud Fee Set At $30,000 For 2022 Breeding Season

Taylor Made Stallions announced today that Breeders' Cup Classic winner and likely 2021 Horse of the Year Knicks Go will stand the upcoming breeding season for $30,000 S&N.

A scintillating winner of Saturday's 1 1/4-mile Classic in 1:59.57, nearly eclipsing the 18-year-old Del Mar track record set by Candy Ride and the fastest Breeders' Cup Classic winner on dirt since Ghostzapper in 2004, Knicks Go now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $8,673,135 for owner Korea Racing Authority. Following a superb 2021 campaign in which he also won the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational and the historic G1 Whitney Stakes, Knicks Go could cap his career with a defense of his title in the 2022 Pegasus World Cup Invitational on Jan. 29. He is the number one-ranked North American horse on Longines World Best Racehorse Rankings and tops NTRA's Thoroughbred Poll.

The fastest miler in Keeneland history, having won the 2020 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile in the new track-record time of 1:33.85, Knicks Go is a multiple Grade 1 winner from eight to nine furlongs and has run triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures of 113, 112, 111, 108 (twice), 107, and 104, all in top company.

Brilliant and precocious, Knicks Go was a debut maiden special weight winner at two and went on to win the 2018 G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland by a dominating 5 1/2 lengths. He was also runner-up to eventual champion Game Winner in that year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Knicks Go will be available for showings beginning on Friday, Nov. 12. Taylor Made will host open houses to showcase their entire roster from Nov. 12 through Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The 2022 roster of stallions and fees for Taylor Made Stallions are as follows:

Stallion S&N Fee
Not This Time $45,000
Knicks Go $30,000
Tacitus $10,000
Instagrand $7,500
Instilled Regard $7,500
Midnight Storm $7,500
Mshawish $5,000

Life Is Good Could Take On Knicks Go In Pegasus; Medina Spirit To Saudi Cup

Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Life Is Good could be pointed to the Pegasus World Cup, WinStar President and CEO Elliott Walden told the Thoroughbred Daily News this week. It brings up the potential of two Breeders' Cup winners facing off in the Jan. 29 contest at Gulfstream Park, as trainer Brad Cox has indicated that Classic winner Knicks Go may make the Pegasus his final career start before heading off to stud.

Life Is Good, the 3-year-old son of Into Mischief trained by Todd Pletcher, put in an extraordinarily dominant performance in the Dirt Mile. Walden believes the victory brings Life Is Good into the discussion for the 3-year-old Eclipse Award.

“I think he is the best 3-year-old in the country and I think he showed that,” Walden told the Thoroughbred Daily News. “It's unfortunate that he couldn't show that in the Derby and some of the other big races we're always trying to win. But, at the same time, you take what the horse gives you. And you have to be grateful for that. He's such an athlete that we're just lucky to have him. I always felt like if you take care of the horse they will take care of you.”

Meanwhile, trainer Bob Baffert reports that Kentucky Derby first-place finisher Medina Spirit, also in the running for the 3-year-old Eclipse Award, is most likely to make his next start in the Feb. 26 Saudi Cup.

The third contender for the 3-year-old Eclipse Award, Travers winner Essential Quality, will stand the 2022 season at Darley.
