‘Welcome to Derbyville’ Exhibit Opens Nov. 19 at Kentucky Derby Museum

Visitors can explore the wild stories and unique culture of the GI Kentucky Derby at a new exhibit, Welcome to Derbyville, opening Nov. 19 at Kentucky Derby Museum.

The exhibit was born from the idea that most years on Derby Day, Churchill Downs transforms into the state's third-largest city, drawing its temporary residents into a remarkable cultural experience that is unique to other sporting events. The horses, the people-watching, the fashion–this new exhibit explores this 147-acre city, Derbyville, and who comes to stay and why.

The unique culture of the Kentucky Derby will come to life through pictures, videos, artwork and artifacts, plus interactive components where visitors can leave their own Derbyville stories.

Additionally, the exhibit will take a deep dive into journalist Hunter S. Thompson and artist Ralph Steadman's raucous commentary, “The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved,” featuring some familiar–and new–artifacts from their trip to the 1970 Derby. Welcome To Derbyville: New Exhibit Opens At Kentucky Derby Museum On Nov. 19

Spectators climbing the Infield's flagpole. A skydiver surprising 100,000 fans with a parachute landing into the Infield crowd. Visitors can explore the wild stories and unique culture of the Kentucky Derby at a new exhibit, Welcome to Derbyville, opening Nov. 19 at Kentucky Derby Museum.

The exhibit is being installed right now in the Museum's Matt Winn Theatre, a space on the second floor used for rotating exhibits. The exhibit's concept was born from the idea that most years on Derby Day, Churchill Downs transforms into the state's third largest city, drawing its temporary residents into a remarkable cultural experience that is unique to other sporting events. The horses, the people-watching, the fashion – this new exhibit explores this 147 acre city, Derbyville, and who comes to stay and why.

The unique culture of the Kentucky Derby will come to life through pictures, videos, artwork and artifacts, plus interactive components where visitors can leave their own Derbyville stories.

Additionally, the exhibit will take a deep dive into journalist Hunter S. Thompson and artist Ralph Steadman's raucous commentary, “The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved,” featuring some familiar (and NEW) artifacts from their trip to the 1970 Kentucky Derby. With one of Jeff Ruby's bedazzled Derby Day ensembles, the Museum is bringing to its guests a number of objects from the vault that have never been displayed.

Thoroughbred Charities Of America Named Co-Charitable Beneficiary Of Rockin’ Derby Eve

As the world reopens and excitement builds for Kentucky Derby 148, Paristown has just come out of the starting gate with the announcement of their inaugural Rockin' Derby Eve, presented by Woodford Reserve. The newest, coolest, star-studded Derby Eve party will be an event unlike any other, and will feature a not-to-be missed performance from country music recording artist, Jake Owen, with a portion of the evening's proceeds benefitting the Norton Healthcare Foundation's Derby Divas, as well as Thoroughbred Charities of America.

“We will be tenting and showcasing the entire Paristown seven-acre Cultural Arts and Entertainment District for this Rockin' Derby Eve extravaganza,” said Steve Smith, Managing Partner of Paristown.

Tickets will be limited to just 1,000 VIP guests who will be greeted with champagne as they enter Christy's Garden which will be transformed into an extraordinary outdoor garden party with all food and beverage included with VIP admission. After the garden party, guests will be treated to an up close and personal Jake Owen concert in Old Forester's Paristown Hall, a state-of-the-art music venue that just opened in 2019.

Rockin' Derby Eve, presented by Woodford Reserve will be Jake Owen's first appearance at the Kentucky Derby. The country music singer, songwriter, dedicated philanthropist, and actor has achieved superstar status with a whopping 21 singles, nine of which reached #1 on the U.S. Country Music Charts. The Jake Owen Foundation is a nationally active charitable organization, with a local approach. According to Owen, he is committed to helping people in the places they call home.

“Attending the Kentucky Derby has always been a bucket-list item for me, and when I learned of the two charities right here in this community who will benefit, I definitely wanted to be part of this very special Derby Eve party,” Owen said. “We are going to have a “rockin” good time while we raise some money for two great causes who definitely call Louisville, Kentucky home.”

Now in its 15th year, Norton Healthcare Foundation's Derby Divas has identified a pocket of need in the Louisville community and has continually strived to fill it.

“There are so many people who are underserved and disconnected from care,” said Lynnie Meyer, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Norton Healthcare. “These funds will help support important initiatives like our Mobile Prevention Center, so we can meet people where they are and help with early detection of breast cancer.”

Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) funds and facilitates the support of Thoroughbreds and the people who care for them.

According to Erin Crady, Executive Director of TCA: “Thoroughbreds are incredibly versatile and can move into a variety of second careers upon retirement from racing.”

Over the past 31 years, TCA has provided over $25 million in grants to more than 200 Thoroughbred-related organizations. TCA's grant recipients work to provide health and human services to backstretch and farm employees, Thoroughbred aftercare, equine research, and equine-assisted therapy.

“After a full day at Churchill Downs on Oaks Day and the customary focus on fashion for Derby Day, we decided to make Rockin' Derby Eve a casual, country chic event where our guests can be treated to world-class service as they kick up their heels in comfort in jeans and cowboy boots if they wish,” Smith said. “We believe a breezy, Kentucky debonair celebration will be a welcome break from the traditional gala attire required at other Derby events.”

Rockin' Derby Eve is presented by Woodford Reserve, the official bourbon of Kentucky Derby 148. To learn more about becoming a founding sponsor of Rockin' Derby Eve in Paristown, contact Joey Wagner at: joey@jwagnergroup.com

VIP tickets are $850 and include admission to the garden party, all food and beverage, and the Jake Owen concert. Tickets are limited to 1,000 and are available beginning October 28th at derbyeve.com

Code Of Honor To Stand At Lane’s End In 2022

Lane's End Farm announced today that the W.S. Farish owned and bred Code of Honor will stand the 2022 season at their Versailles, Ky., farm. Earning almost $3 million in a career that included graded stakes performances each year from two to five, the colt is a multiple Grade 1 and six-time graded stakes winner. He looks to add to his already impressive resume this weekend in the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky.

Code of Honor got his racing career off to a perfect start wiring the field in a maiden special weight at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in his two-year-old debut. This victory gave his Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey the confidence to target the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes where Code of Honor finished second, posting a 90 Beyer after stumbling badly at the start. Never competing out of graded stakes company after his debut, Code of Honor had made 16 graded stakes starts to date, hitting the board in 12 and winning 6. Early in his three-year-old career, he won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and finished third in the Grade 1 Florida Derby making him a leading contender for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby where he earned second place beaten less than a length. From there, Code of Honor won three graded stakes in a row to finish out his three-year-old career. The Grade 3 Dwyer Stakes set the stage for his three-length win in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, posting a 105 Beyer. He annexed the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes in his follow-up race, posting a career-high 106 Beyer against older horses for the first time.

“Code of Honor impressed me from day one”, said trainer Shug McGaughey. “He is the type of horse every trainer dreams of: he is sound, balanced, and an efficient mover and takes to his training very well. What I saw him do as a two-year-old when breaking his maiden at Saratoga gave me the confidence to go straight to a grade one. Watching him overcome his bad break in the Champagne to run second was impressive and showed the heart and determination that's been a trademark of Code of Honor throughout his career.”

As a four-year-old and five-year-old, Code of Honor won the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes and the Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin Stakes posting a 105 Beyer while also hitting the board in the Grade 1 Met Mile, the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap, and the Grade 1 Clark Stakes, posting 102, 106, and 101 Beyers respectively.

“Code of Honor is a special horse on many different levels for us, and we're excited that he is returning home to the farm where he was born,” said Bill Farish of Lane's End. “He is what we like to see in a prospective stallion being a consistent performer at the highest level. He was a precocious two-year-old that developed into a classic horse winning at the elite level. He has the proven race record, desired physical attributes and deep pedigree to make him the complete stallion package.”

Code of Honor is by European Champion Noble Mission and out of the W.S. Farish homebred Reunited by Dixie Union, a winner of the Grade 3 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland and has produced eight winners from eight horses, including G2 Best Pal placed Big League.
