Laws Of Indices Possible For Sandy Lane

Group 2 winner Laws of Indices (Ire) (Power {GB}), fourth in the G3 Goffs Lacken S. at Naas on May 16, will likely make a quick return in the G2 Sandy Lane S. at Haydock on May 22. Successful in the G2 Railway S. as a juvenile and third in the 2020 G1 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere in October, the Ken Condon trainee was fifth in the Listed Ballylinch Stud “Red Rocks” 2000 Guineas Trial S. at Leopardstown in the wake of subsequent G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas victor Poetic Flare (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) prior to his close fourth in the Lacken.

“He's got an entry for the Sandy Lane on Saturday, we're taking a look at that,” said Condon. “The ground is soft and the weather is probably going to be something similar to what we're wanting, he will have an entry there but I won't know until later in the week when I've discussed it with everybody.

“I think if he does go there it will be the [G1] Commonwealth Cup next [at Royal Ascot in June]…and he'll have an entry in the [G1] Prix Maurice de Gheest, maybe even the [G1] Prix Jean Prat.

“He'll be campaigned ambitiously, but he's a horse that's very solid and looks to be improving. He turns up, and when they always turn up you always have a chance.

French Guineas For Miss Amulet

Doreen Tabor's Miss Amulet (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) will take up a Classic assignment in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches on May 16, trainer Ken Condon reports. Miss Amulet won Naas's Listed Marwell S. last August before beating Wednesday's G3 Nell Gwyn S. scorer Sacred (GB) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) by a length in the G2 Lowther S., after which she was purchased privately by Tabor. Miss Amulet rounded out her juvenile campaign with placed efforts in the G1 Cheveley Park S. and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

“Miss Amulet will hopefully start back in the French 1000 Guineas,” Condon said. “She'll go straight there on May 16. She had a very good year last year and kept progressing. She finished off with a third in the Breeders' Cup over a mile.

“Longchamp might be the most suitable place for her to run in a Classic. In future she may come back in trip. Hopefully she has trained on–you never really know until they run. She's done well physically, she looks well and is training nicely. All the signs are pretty good. She'll take her chance and we'll make a plan after that.”

Condon revealed that David Kelly's Thunder Beauty (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), a Curragh maiden winner last summer before running fifth in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. and seventh in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, heads straight to the G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 2.

“She seems to be very well and is forward in her coat,” the trainer said. “Her fast work up to this point has gone very well. She'll take her chance in Newmarket.

“She's relatively lightly-raced. She won her maiden at The Curragh nicely and I thought she ran a lovely race in the Moyglare from an outside draw. I'd forgive her France; it was very bad ground and there was a bit of barging and scrimmaging in the straight. Billy [Lee] looked after her when her chance had gone. She'll be a big price, but she's by a nice sire and we're happy with her.”

Condon likewise has 3-year-olds Teresa Mendoza (Ire) (Territories {Ire}) and Law Of Indices (Ire) (Power {GB}) to look forward to. The Moyglare Stud S. tenth Teresa Mendoza makes her reappearance in Cork's Listed Polonia S. on May 7, while Law Of Indices may take in the G3 Lacken S. on May 16 en route to the G3 Jersey S. at Royal Ascot.

Romanised Retired To Bouquetot

Classic winner Romanised (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}-Romantic Venture {Ire}, by Indian Ridge {Ire}) has been retired from racing and will enter stud in 2021 at Haras de Bouquetot in Normandy, France, for a fee of €7,000.

Campaigned by Robert Ng and trained by Ken Condon, Romanised won at first asking in April of his 2-year-old campaign and was second to eventual G1 Derby winner Masar (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) in the G3 Solario S. that fall. He sprang a 25-1 upset when beating US Navy Flag (War Front) in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, and though he went winless in three subsequent starts that year he bounced back in 2019 to win the G2 Minstrel S. and the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and was beaten a nose by Circus Maximus (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Prix du Moulin. Romanised defended his title in the Minstrel this July.

Romanised’s dam, Romantic Venture, has produced two other stakes winners including the G3 St Leger Italiano winner Rock Of Romance (Ire) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), and she is a half-sister to three stakes winners including Hong Kong Horse of the Year Designs On Rome (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}).

Condon said, “From when he first commenced fast work in the spring of his 2-year-old year, Romanised showed that precocity, speed and class that were the hallmarks of his racing career. His biggest attributes were his superior cruising speed and an electric turn of foot. Coupled with his impeccable physique, Romanised is possessed of many of the prerequisites to be a success at stud.”

Haras de Bouquetot Stud Manager Benoit Jeffroy added, “We’re delighted to be given the opportunity to stand a dual Group 1-winning miler with such eye-catching looks as Romanised, who will be a valuable addition to the Al Shaqab stallion roster at Haras de Bouquetot for the 2021 season. He is a well balanced horse, with strong hind quarters, a great athleticism and good muscle definition. For a horse matching performances, pedigree and looks, his stud fee of €7,000 Live Foal should prove a great value to the European breeders.”

Romanised Camp Still Considering Hong Kong

G1 Irish 2000 Guineas hero Romanised (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) is still a potential candidate for the G1 Longines Hong Kong Mile at the Longines Hong Kong International Races in mid-December at Sha Tin. Although third when favoured after a slow beginning at Dundalk on Monday, the 5-year-old won the G2 Minstrel S. earlier this year and was sixth in the G1 Prix du Moulin in September. Also a winner of the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois, the Ken Condon trainee’s performance has not discouraged his connections.

“I think it served its purpose–it was a prep run and he blew the start,” said Condon of the Robert Ng colourbearer. “Billy [Lee, jockey] had to get him into the race, then he was in his hands a bit. He travelled really well through the race, like we know he can, and went to win his race and just took a blow and got a bit tired. If you take him in isolation, it was an interesting exercise as he’s run his race faster than anything else, if that makes sense.

“If he’d jumped away with them, it would have been a different story. Billy was particularly happy and he’s the one that is the most relevant in this jigsaw.”

He added, “We’ll see how he is in the next week–we don’t have to commit to Hong Kong immediately. But I still think we’re on course and he’ll get something from the race [at Dundalk], as he’d been off the track a while.

“All things considered, it was a solid run. It’s important now to see how he trains in the next week as it’s a long way to go and we want to be going there with a horse in top condition. I was initially disappointed that he got beaten, but after I analysed it closely and watched the race several times and listened to everybody, I think he’s run well.”
