Dornoch, Full-Bro To Mage, Dons Cap and Gown at Keeneland

6th-Keeneland, $99,588, Msw, 10-14, 2yo, 1 1/16m, 1:45, ft, 6 1/2 lengths.
DORNOCH (c, 2, Good Magic–Puca {SW & GSP, $299,406}, by Big Brown) had run well in each of his first two career starts, including a runner-up effort in the Sapling S. in his most recent trip to the races Aug. 26, and made good on a promise of 1-2 favoritism to break his maiden in style Saturday at Keeneland. The full-brother to GI Kentucky Derby hero Mage, GISW, $2,507,450; and half to Gunning (Gun Runner), MSP, $278,835,  was away in good order from gate two and led into the first turn as they stacked up six deep to his outside. Pressed along by Lat Long (Liam's Map) as they raced into the backstretch, the $325,000 Keeneland September grad was past the half-mile in :47.70 for Luis Saez and was quietly and confidently ridden into the second bend. Asked to stretch passing the three-sixteenths marker, Dornoch raced a touch greenly and a bit awkwardly on his left lead, but pulled readily clear despite wandering about to score by a widening 6 1/2 lengths. The final time was 1.34 seconds faster than what was recorded by Stretch Ride in the first division of this two-turn maiden in race three. Former 'TDN Rising Star' Puca was a stakes winner and runner-up in the 2015 GII Gazelle S. and was purchased by Robert Clay's Grandview Equine for $475,000 carrying the filly that would become Gunning at Fasig-Tipton November in 2018. A half-sister to GISW Finnegans Wake (Powerscourt {GB}), Puca is also the dam of a yearling McKinzie colt that sold to Mayberry Farm for $1.2 million at last month's Keeneland September sale and the mare sells at the upcoming Keeneland November Sale carrying a full-sibling to Mage and Dornoch through Case Clay Thoroughbred Management as hip 191. Street Sense Colt Stretches Out Successfully at Keeneland

3rd-Keeneland, $109,550, Alw (NW1X), Opt. Clm ($100,000), 10-14, 2yo, 1 1/16m, 1:46.34, ft, 5 3/4 lengths.
STRETCH RIDE (c, 2, Street Sense–Q Go Girl {SP}, by Quality Road) handled his first two-turn attempt with aplomb, drawing away to win clear Saturday at Keeneland. Off at 9-1 having graduated with a late-running victory over six furlongs at Churchill Downs Sept. 17, the bay colt took up a position from between rivals as Astronomico (Frosted) set a quick early pace at the fence while odds-on Lightline (City of Light) was trapped out three deep through a half in :47.56. Stretch Ride was allowed to nose in front by Martin Chuan at the three-eighths marker and was scrubbed along, but was doing the better work inside of the chalk, who was doing his best to keep pace. Despite hanging on his incorrect lead for the length of the short stretch, Stretch Ride went away with each stride and had 5 3/4 lengths on Lightline–a big-figure debut winner at Horseshoe Indianapolis–at the wire. Seize the Grey (Arrogate), a latest fourth in the GIII Iroquois S., plugged on at one pace to be a non-threatening third. Purchased for just $5,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton October sale, Stretch Ride made for a nice profit when hammering for €100,000 at this year's Arqana May breeze-up sale. Jackpot Ranch acquired Stretch Ride's dam for $147,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Horses of Racing Age sale in 2019 a short time after she finished third in the Panthers S. at Prairie Meadows. Stretch Ride is her first foal and is followed by a weanling colt by Yaupon. Gun Runner Filly Passes Two-Turn Test at Keeneland

8th-Keeneland, $96,906, Msw, 10-13, 2yo, f, 1 1/16m, 1:47.33, ft, 3 1/2 lengths.
INTRICATE (f, 2, Gun Runner–Complex Analysis, by Distorted Humor) made belated progress to finish a never-nearer fifth, beaten just over two lengths, on six-furlong debut at Churchill Sept. 16, and was the 2-1 second choice stretching out to a distance of ground for the first time. Prominent through the opening exchanges, the chestnut eased back to sit midfield, but close, as they turned up the backstretch. Steered out into the four path entering the second bend, Intricate was held together passing the quarter pole, quickly raced up to the leaders once heads were turned for home and ran out a good-looking 3 1/2-length winner. A $200,000 KEESEP yearling and $280,000 OBS April breezer, Intrictate is the first foal from her dam, a full-sister to SW & GSP Abraham, who cost LBD Stable $180,000 carrying this filly at the 2020 Keeneland November sale. Complex Analysis is also the dam of a yearling colt by The Factor ($23,000 '23 KEEJAN; $65,000 '23 FTKJUL) and produced a Munnings colt this year before visiting Gun Runner's sire Candy Ride (Arg). Erika Margherita, a $400,000 Keeneland September acquisition, is out of a daughter of Sovereign Award-winning 3-year-old filly Eye of the Sphynx (Smart Strike), whose other produce include champion and Queen's Plate winner Eye of the Leopard (A.P.
